bout a fortnight ago, Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State said in the course of a radio interview, that President Jonathan reached and signed an agreement with the Peoples Democratic Party governors in 2010 to serve for only one term of four years if he won the 2011 presidential election. But for its timing and the fact that the Nigerian public is generally short-memoried, what the governor said would have been a mere
reminder to us, not a disclosure worth all the excited chatter in the country. For the Nigerian public was never kept in the dark about the fact of such an agreement. No Nigerian would have forgotten so soon the political climate of uncertainties and confusion that necessitated Jonathan's entering into a pact with the governors who, literally, held his future in their hands, on account largely of their stranglehold on the party whose ticket he desperately wanted.
Besides, the parties to the agreement, including Jonathan himself, and those close to them, did tell us, and the rest of the world, that such an agreement had been struck. he regime of sleaze uncovered in the management of pensions meant for retired federal government workers has denied payment of over two years’ pension to former Inspectors General of Police and other retired police officers. The affected retired officers have expressed frustration at the insensitivity of relevant bodies saddled with police pension administration, Peoples Daily exclusive findings have shown. Latest checks have revealed that the former IGPs who might not have been paid since 2011 include Alhaji M.D Yusuf, who retired in 1979, Alhaji Gambo Jimeta, 1989, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, 2007 and Mr. Mike Okiro, 2009, among others. Former IG, Alhaji Gambo Jimeta, while obliging our enquiry, said: “I can't remember when last I was paid pension. Go to the Police Pension Board and verify.
