N
orthern elders under the aegis of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) yesterday met with President Goodluck Jonathan to dialogue
. . . insist on amnesty for Boko Haram on how to resolve the spate of insecurity in the northern parts of the country. The elders impressed it upon him to consider amnesty for
the insurgents. It was learnt that the meeting was called by the President to aggregate the views of the stakeholders on
how best to handle the insurgents in the north who have made lives unbearable for the people in the region. Although details of the
N150
meeting with the President was sketchy as at the time of filling this report, it was learnt that a meeting earlier held by the elders at Sheraton Hotels, Abuja, chaired by Dr. Maitama Sule, resolved to prevail on Jonathan to have a rethink of his earlier stand not to grant amnesty to a ‘faceless group’.
