Gov. Lamido’s son remanded in prison From Edwin Olofu, Kano

Federal High Court sitting in Kano yesterday ordered that Aminu Sule, son of the Jigawa state Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, be remanded in prison custody following his formal arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a onecount charge of money laundering. According to the charge, “that you Aminu Sule Lamido on or about 11th day of December, 2012 at the Mallam Aminu International Airport, Kano within the Jurisdiction of the Federal High Court while transporting in cash, the sum of $50,000 only from Nigeria to Cairo, Egypt, falsely declared to the Nigerian Customs the sum of

$10,000 only instead of the said sum of $50,000 only as required under Section 12 of the Foreign Exchange (Monitoring and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act Cap F34 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section 2(3) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 2(5) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011.” The accused person pleaded not guilty and the prosecution counsel, Sa’ad Hanafi Sa’ad, requested that Aminu be kept in the custody of the EFCC. But the defense counsel, Efiong Efiong (SAN), argued that the accused was earlier granted an administrative bail and presented himself voluntarily. Contd on Page 2

andemonium broke out in the early hours of yesterday at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Territorial Office of the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) in Area 10, Garki, following the discovery of an alleged improvised explosive devices (IED), around the

entrance gate of the premises. The Area 1 police command was promptly invited to scène following which the explosive was detonated. Following the incident, rumours of a bomb explosion spread like wild fire causing traffic gridlock as motorists scampered to get away from the scene. Contd on Page 2
