Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Jack Bot, has been arrested for illegal gun running, Peoples Daily gathered last night. Bot’s arrest was personally announced by the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Dikko Inde, yesterday. Inde disclosed that Comptroller Bot was discovered to have been involved in illegal gun running when a vigilante leader, Ali Kwara, arrested his orderly, a junior Customs officer named Shehu. He said Shehu made “useful statements” that led to the arrestA of the comptroller, adding that the suspect’s boys “have been doing the dirty job for him, taking illegal arms to criminals in Anambra and Plateau states since 2002.” This is how Inde explained the process that led to Bot’s arrest: “Ali Kwara came to my office and said Jack should be called because he was involved in illegal arms running. “We contacted the officer who said he was indisposed but I directed that he should be arrested and brought to me even if on his sick bed. “When he was brought, Ali used his cell phone to call Shehu, and Shehu confirmed his involvement.” The Comptroller-General said that he ordered Bot’s sack with effect from yesterday. “I sacked him as from yesterday, and asked them to take him away since he accepted being part of a criminal act of gun running,” Inde said. “I m sure Ali Kwara’s team’s Contd on Page 2
