Borno women protest detention of husbands, children From Mustapha Isah Kwaru, Maiduguri
H
undreds of women in Borno state, yesterday, staged a peaceful demonstration in Maiduguri, the capital city, over what they described as the "arbitrary arrest and continued illegal" detention of their husbands and children by operatives of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF), for alleged links with the Boko Haram sect. Our correspondent reports that the protest began at about 11am, when the aggrieved women went to Ramat Square where an interactive session on how to end the security challenges bedeviling the state organised by the Directorate of Civic-Military Relations of the Defence Headquarters, (DHQ) Abuja was being held. of strange bed fellows. According to Lamido, members of the PDP should not express any fears even as he further labeled the new political party as propaganda tool whose leaders hold conflicting views on fundamental issues. Lamido who spoke at a stakeholders’ forum organized by the PDP in Jigawa held at the party’s secretariat in Dutse, noted
that, “none of the political parties will compromise to one another as the alliance will only create confusion among them and the four parties will not make the ruling and biggest party in Africa to be jittery or intimidated.” “We are ready to face the socalled merger as it will not make any positive impact on the political struggle because the PDP Contd on Page 2
