40 perish in Kaduna blast From Agaju Madugba, Kaduna
I
t was a bloody Easter Sunday in Kaduna yesterday as eyewitnesses said more than 40 persons were killed when a bomb-laden Honda Accord car (Academy) with Kaduna plate number, BB111DKA, exploded at Junction Road, in the city centre, at about 9.30 am. Victims of the incident were commercial motorcycle operators, food vendors, fuel hawkers and commuters who all happened to be at different points at the Sarduana Crescent bus stop, opposite Fina White House Hotel extension. Passers-by and motorists on the road were also not spared as the explosion ripped through a number of vehicles, according to eyewitness accounts, with human parts littering the road and damaging well over 50 buildings, including offices and shops, along both sides of the dual carriage road. The Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) gave a casualty figure of 36 with scores of others injured and currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in the city, while more critical cases were referred to the Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria.
