By Sunday Ejike Benjamin

F

or the first time since the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunnah Iid Da’awati wal Jihad, commonly called Boko Haram started its campaign of violence

in 2009, an Abuja High Court presided over by Judge Bilikisu Aminu yesterday convicted five of its members for acts of terrorism. While the four sect members were sentenced to life imprisonment, a fifth one was lucky to bag only ten

years jail sentence, while one Musa Adams was freed. Judge Bilkisu Aminu, in her judgment, convicted the five Boko Haram members on three of the five-count charge slammed against them by the Department of State

Security (DSS). Those sentenced to life imprisonment include Shuaibu Abubakar, Salisu Ahmed, Umar Babagana-Umar, and Mohamed Ali; Umar Ibrahim bagged 10 years, while Musa Adam was freed for lack

of evidence. The six were arraigned in 2011 and charged with the April 8, 2011 bombing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Suleja, Niger state, Contd. on Page 2

Taraba Ag. Gov sacks SSG, commissioners From Ayodele Samuel, Lagos and Yusha’u Alhassan, Jalingo

T

he Taraba state Acting Governor, Alhaji Garba Umar, last night sacked the Secretary to the State Government, Emmanuel Njiwah, four commissioners and two special advisers, following their alleged complicity in the mismanagement of N400 million relief fund for last year’s flood victims in the state. The affected commissioners are Anthony Jellason (Agriculture); Jonah Anguy (Works); Rabo Usman (Water Resources); and Charity Green Jonathan (Women Affairs). Also sacked along with them are two special advisers in charge of Revenue Generation and Land Borders. The Taraba governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Kefas Sule, disclosed that a fifth commissioner, that of Health, Mustapha Hamman Gabdo, voluntarily resigned from the cabinet. The sacking of the officials, according to Umar’s spokesman, followed the recommendations of an ad-hoc committee set up by the Taraba state House of Assembly to probe the disbursement of the fund, which was donated by the Federal Government in the wake of last year’s flooding in some parts of the country. The House of Assembly had indicted the SSG, who headed the Flood Relief sub-Committee Contd. on Page 2
