utgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher, has described the failure to resolve the issue of the suspension of former
President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami, as something “I regret very much”. Justice Musdapher for whom a valedictory Supreme Court session has been planned for Friday in Abuja, believes “there was no reason for the matter to
have arisen in the first place.” Speaking to some editors Monday night at his official residence in Abuja, the retiring CJN said he felt personally hurt because the two protagonists – Salami and then CJN Aloysius Katsina-Alu - were both close to
him. “I felt very sad about it; I wasn’t happy. The two were classmates of mine and they worked under me at one time or another,” he said. About Salami, in particular, Justice Musdapher described him as a “close family

In a development that might soon hit other states of the federation, especially those in the North, the Bauchi state government yesterday fell short of declaring itself bankrupt, as it announced a massive cutback on statutory official commitments on grounds of financial incapacity. A letter by the Secretary to the Bauchi state government, Ahmed Ibrahim Dandija, sent to all state government offices yesterday in Bauchi stated: “The current downturn in the nation’s economy is telling on the state government as a result of dwindling resources at its disposal.
