s the controversy over the presidential pardon granted former Bayelsa State governor, Diepreiye Alamieyeseigha and other VIP exconvicts continues to rage, President Goodluck Jonathan has declared that he owes nobody any apology for his action. The president was apparently
responding to the public uproar that greeted Tuesday’s announcement of a presidential pardon for Jonathan’s former boss, Alamieyeseigha who was convicted over charges of money laundering while he was Bayelsa State’s Governor between 1999 to 2003. The unions, comprising Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), and the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) described as unacceptable what they called the antics and executive tantrums of the management of Aero Contractors towards the welfare of its workers. The unions described as impracticable a court injunction from the National Industrial Court restraining the workers from embarking on strike on March 13, 2013, arguing that no court can force the workers to work when the workplace is not conducive and unhealthy. Dejected passengers pleaded with both parties to resolve their differences in the interest of the industry.
