n what is generally believed to be part of a desperate move to justify the state pardon of the convicted former governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, President Goodluck Jonathan blundered
badly when he introduced names of other prominent Nigerians who had been granted state pardon by previous governments, facts emerged yesterday. Alamieyeseigha, who served as governor in Bayelsa State between 2000 and 2005, was President Jonathan's direct boss
then; he served as deputy governor of Bayelsa State when Alamieyeseigha was the state governor. Taking advantage of Section 175 of the 1999 Constitution which requires him to seek advisory support from the Council of States, President Jonathan
listed this intention on the agenda of the Council of States meeting which held Tuesday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and, consequently, used his constitutional powers to grant state pardon to his former boss, without bothering to check record Contd on Page 2
