MEND threatens to attack mosques By Our Correspondent

T

he Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has said it would start a bombing campaign against mosques and Islamic institutions. The group had claimed responsibility for the recent killing of 14 policemen in Bayelsa state. MEND in an e-mail statement yesterday said that, “the bombings of mosques, hajj camps, Islamic institutions, large congregations in Islamic events and assassinations of clerics that propagate doctrines of hate will form the core mission of this crusade. The statement signed by the MEND spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, said that the campaign, codenamed “Barbarossa,” would start on May 31. The statement said that MEND might consider a cease-fire if the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Catholic Church and the group’s suspected leader Henry Okah, intervene. auchi state Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan over the decision to set up a committee to

consider modalities for granting amnesty to members of the Boko haram group. Speaking yesterday on a BBC

Hausa Service programme, Yuguda questioned the veracity of the report that claimed that Abubakar Shekau, the Boko
