Jonathan shops for new Army Chief Monguno, Minimah tipped By Abubakar Ibrahim

P

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) following vacancies that will be created by the current Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Admiral Ola Sa’ad Ibrahim, who is going on terminal leave preparatory to

retirement on health grounds. Jonathan faced his first test of will in effecting changes in the nation’s military hierarchy late last year when the former CDS, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyin Petirin

retired. His dilemma was how to juggle the vital criteria of loyalty, geopolitics, seniority and competence. A reliable source told Peoples Daily that, with the imminent

departure of Admiral Ibrahim, his position is believed to be reserved for the current COAS, Lt-General Azubuike Ihejirika, the next most senior military officer of the armed Contd on Page 2
