North-West govs shun Maku’s tour

here were indications yesterday that the Good Governance Media Tour initiated by the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has met a brick wall as governors from the north-west reportedly declined to host the team. Our correspondent reports that Maku’s slow-moving train managed to crawl to Gusau, Zamfara state in the early hours of Tuesday, from Kebbi state. Maku is said to have abandoned the over 100 reporters embedded in the train as he returned to Abuja following warnings that the governors from the area were are not excited one bit about his jamboree tour. Competent Government House sources in Gusau said Governor Abdulazeez Yari, who was away on an official engagement declined to give a definite date to host the team which has already lost at least five days. resident Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated the much publicised committee on Boko Haram, expected to dialogue with members of the insurgent group towards resolving the seemingly intractable insecurity situation in the country. Inaugurating the committee yesterday in Abuja, Jonathan warned soldiers and members of the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) to desist from killing
innocent civilians. But the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) said yesterday that soldiers who carried out last weekend’s massacre of civilians at Baga, Borno state, must be prosecuted even as the group urged Muslims from across the country to embark on a five-day prayers for victims of the massacre.
