to as Boko Haram stormed a prison in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital yesterday, freeing 40 inmates. During the prison raid, the attackers allegedly threw

I won’t make my assets public – Jonathan

resident Goodluck Jonathan yesterday insisted that he was not under any obligation to publicly declare his assets as doing so would amount to playing to the gallery. The President who fielded questions during his third Presidential Media Chat since he became leader of the country in May, 2010, said: “The issue of assets declaration is a matter of principle.” While maintaining that he had nothing to hide by refusing to make his assets public, Jonathan said he felt it was not particularly right to do so as that would make it compulsory for all public office holders to do same. He said insisting on public declaration of assets may scare some people, especially women, away from taking public offices as they may have to compel their husbands to equally declare their assets.
