Court stops PDP special convention By Lawrence Olaoye and Sunday Ejike Benjamin

A

n Abuja High Court sitting in Apo yesterday stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting any Special Convention to elect its national officers pending the determination of the substantive suit brought against it by some members of the party. The court sitting before Justice Suleiman Belgore also held that it cannot restrain Dr. Bamanga Tukur from discharging his duties as the National Chairman of the PDP. On the relief questioning the propriety or otherwise of the appointment of acting National Working Committee (NWC) members by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), at its meeting of June 20, 2013, the judge refused the relief, saying the action cannot be nullified as it was not part of the prayers sought by the plaintiffs in the originating summons. However, Justice Belgore restrained the Jerry Gana-led Contd. on Page 2

Ramadan Message Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. It is He Who has sent down the Book (The Qur’an) to you with truth, confirming, what came before it. And He sent down the Tawrah and the Injil, aforetime, as guidance to mankind. And He sent down the criterion. (Qur’an 3:2-4) Sponsored by Kano state government
