A
group of gunmen struck a church in Peri village, near Potiskum, the Yobe state capital, killing the pastor and five other worshippers who had gathered for the Christmas eve service before setting the church building on fire. Peri is just two kilometers from Potiskum. Police authorities yesterday confirmed the attack in Peri . The attack was said to have taken place at about midnight when members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA),formerly known as Evangelical Church of West Africa were holding a Christmas Eve service ahead of the Christmas Day celebrations yesterday. Yobe State Police Commissioner, Sanusi Rufa’i, described the matter as “a security issue” and refused to comment further. resident Goodluck Jonathan yesterday provided reason why his critics have accused him of running government at a slow pace. The President who spoke in a Christmas service yesterday at
the Anglican Cathedral in Life Camp, Abuja said the need to do things properly and follow all the due process of law was responsible for the belief in certain quarters that his government is too slow. “By human thinking our administration is slow but I won’t say we are slow but we need to
think through things properly if we are to make lasting impact. If we rush we will make mistakes and sometimes it is more difficult to correct those mistakes. “I want to assure Nigerians that any step we take whether little or giant, we won’t go back. And where we need to act fast
