Boko Haram detainees confess . . .
We were brainwashed
Members embrace amnesty Insurgents under hard drugs — Shettima From Mustapha Isah Kwaru, Maiduguri
W
hat seems like a respite in the protracted Boko Haram insurgency came yesterday when some detained members of the dreaded sect confessed that they were conscripted after they were brainwashed. The confession came during a visit of the presidential committee on dialogue and peaceful resolution of security challenges in the North to a detention camp in Maiduguri. “Most of us were brainwashed and recruited into the sect and given dastardly acts to do without our full understanding of what we were doing,” a Bokko Haram
commander told the committee. In a separate development, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima yesterday said recent discovery has shown that the Boko Haram members act under the influence of hard drugs and called for concerted efforts to cut off the supply. Governor Shettima said this while inaugurating members of the state Anti Drugs Control Committee set up to compliment the efforts of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in wiping out drug abuse across the state.
