More floods coming, NEMA warns states among others. This is just as the Kano State Rehabilitation and Emergency Relief Agency has confirmed the death of 15 persons in a flood that swept through nine local governments at the weekend bringing to over a hundred, the number of persons killed in floods
across the country in the last three weeks. The North has been hardest hit by floods which have sacked hundreds of communities, sweeping away thousands of homesteads and farmlands and destroying property now estimated in hundreds of millions of naira. While over 36 persons have been reportedly killed in floods in
Plateau state in the last three weeks, on Sunday, a massive flood swept through communities in Adamawa killing about 17 persons in addition to last week's ocean surge that killed about 12 persons in Lagos two weeks ago. Flood also killed dozens in Jigawa and Katsina states among others in the last three weeks. NEMA Director General Alhaji Sani Sidi, who alerted of further
floods in the North, specifically warned the governments of the North Eastern states including Taraba, Benue, Borno and Adamawa to start making preparations for more massive flooding as a result of expected heavy down pour in the next few weeks. Sidi said that the steep elevation of the Adamawa Contd on Page 2

direction, we have called for his sack before now, we expected him to have done this before now”. Also, President of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Bede Opara, said with his exit, there will be changes because the
minister constituted a blockage to growth in the power sector. Nnaji’s resignation came barely two weeks after the workers demanded his resignation accusing him of engaging in fraudulent activities in the power sector and Contd on Page 2
