resident Goodluck Jonathan has criticised media rating of his cabinet members, questioning the ‘criteria’ employed by some newspapers to score their performance within the last two years of his administration. Jonathan, accompanied by his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, spoke yesterday at the presentation of the mid-term report of the transformation agenda to mark this year’s Democracy Day celebration held at the International Conference Centre, Abuja. Lebanese turns residence to arms ‘depot’ in Kano From Edwin Olofu, Kano

igerian Army Special Forces have raided a warehouse stuffed with sophisticated military hardware at Bompai, a highbrow area located within the precinct of Police and Immigration headquarters in the commercial city of Kano. A senior security source told our reporter on condition of anonymity that the discreet operation was carried out
following a tip off by a suspect who is under investigation. Our correspondent gathered that the house used as the warehouse belongs to a foreigner suspected to be a Lebanese. The warehouse is located in Gaya road Bompai, 500 meters away from the State Police Headquarters and the headquarters of the Nigerian Immigration Service. The special troops were said to have stormed the house after the resident was arrested, and upon
search of the bungalow, cache of arms and ammunition were discovered beneath the sitting room and some wardrobes in the house that were used to stock-pile weapons. The security source further revealed that highly sophisticated military hardware that include, about 40 Air to surface missiles, 50 bombs, about 200 Rocket Propel Launchers, 8 AK 47 Riffles, 200 military hand grenades, uncountable number of live
ammunition and some military hard wares were found. He added that the weapons of war were taken to the headquarters of the army in Bukavu Barracks and two suspects, both foreigners, were arrested in connection with the startling discovery. However, an eyewitness who doesn’t want his name mentioned in print, who lives in the same neighbourhood said he counted over 300 AK 47 riffles and saw while peeping from his house
soldiers moving out ammunition using shovels into some large containers from the house. The source said they were astonished with the discovery, adding that he also saw six soldiers lifting a military hardware into a military truck, while others were carrying the ammunition into trucks. The suspect simply identified as Ta’al who is in his late fifties
