Kano arms depot ‘belongs to Hizbullah’ From Edwin Olofu, Kano

irector of the Department of State Security Service in Kano (DSS), Mr. Bassey Etang, yesterday offered an insight into the astonishing discovery of weapons of mass destruction at the residence of a Lebanese in Kano on Tuesday. He said that the weapons belonged to the international terrorist organization, Hizbullah. Etang spoke at a joint press conference by the Commandant of the 3 Motorized Division in Kano, Brigadier-Gen. Iliyasu Abba, at the scene of the discovery in the Bompai area. He said the weapons were brought in by an international terrorist organization, Hizbullah, to attack Israeli and Western interests in Nigeria. He added that on 28 May 2013, a combined team of the JTF involving the Nigerian Army of the 3 Brigade in Kano and the Kano state DSS conducted a thorough search of the house located at 3, Gaya Road, off Bompai Road, belonging to one Abdul Hassan Taher Fadlalla, a Lebanese national who is currently out of the country. Judge dumps Al-Mustapha’s case From Matthew Irinoye, Lagos

iting “personal reasons,” Justice Ibrahim Saulawa who has been presiding over the case of Major Hamzat Al-Mustapha and Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan at the Appeal Court,
who are appealing the death sentence passed on them by a Lagos High Court, announced his withdrawal from the case yesterday. At the resumed hearing of the matter, Saulawa told parties in the suit that he would no longer
participate in the hearing of the main appeal and could only assist them in recording a further date for arguments. The judge said his reasons for withdrawal were personal. Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to late Gen. Sani
Abacha, and Shofolahan were sentenced to death on January 30, 2012 by Justice Mojisola Dada, for conspiracy in masterminding the murder of the late Kudirat Abiola. The case which ought to be for argument of the appeal filed by the appellants, could not continue
owing to the withdrawal of the judge. The judge who adjourned the case till June 10 however granted two applications filed by both the counsel to the state government, Mr. Pedro Lawal (SAN) and Contd. on Page 2
