The House of Representatives on Thursday asked the Federal Government to declare a state of Emergency on Drug addiction.

Hajj 2023: 559 first batch of Jigawa pilgrims airlifts Saudi Arabia

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse a motion under matters of urgent National importance moved by a member from Benue state Mr Francis Otagbo at plenary on Thursday.

The first batch of 559 Jigawa pilgrims have been airlifted from Nuhu Muhammad Sunusi International Airport Dutse to Saudi Arabia for 2023 Hajj exercise.

While speaking at the event, the executive governor of Jigawa state, Malam Umar Namadi urged them to pray for peace and progress in the state.

The governor reminded the intending pilgrims that they are few whom were chosen by almighty God among many.

The intending pilgrims departed the Airport on Wednesday at 4:45 p.m., aboard Max Air and expect their landing at Saudi Arabia Airport by 11:00 pm.

Leading the debate, the lawmaker observed drug addiction is the base of criminal activities.

He expressed concern on the manner at which the illicit substances are available to the youths thereby painting a bleak future for them.

Otagbo however urged government at all levels, to stop playing lips service to the keg of gun powder waiting to explode at the detriment of the nation.

Ruling on the motion, the speaker Femi Gbajabiamila called for the establishment of well manned rehabilitation centers across the country to battle the scourge.

He also mandated relevant committees of the House to ensure that the prayers of the motion were carried out and report back to the House within six days.
