METRO Int’l Children’s Day: Chinese Embassy donates learning, food items to Abuja children

recalled that, in the year of 2020, Her Excellency Peng, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, sent a message to first ladies of African countries, expressing gratitude for the countries help to China’s fight against COVID-19.

She adds: “To express the friendly feeling of the Chinese people towards the African people, the Chinese government has donated a batch of antipandemic supplies through OAFLAD to 53 African countries including Nigeria to help women, children and adolescents.

“Since then, Chinese aid materials have been delivered to various countries. Those countries expressed gratitude for China’s care and help for African women, children and adolescents, saying that China provided help when it was needed most, which reflected the profound friendship between African countries and China sharing weal and woe”.

Responding, Matron of the Victorine Home Orphanage, Jovita Nkem Nzeduru, while describing the initiative as a welcome and exciting development, said it will go a long to enhance the wellbeing of the beneficiaries, who are among the vulnerable members of the society.

Nzeduru, who assured the good usage of the support items, also thanked the Chinese for deeming children at the Home worthy beneficiaries of the love packages aimed at boosting their health and learning in the society.

The wife of the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Liang Huili, and other officials during the donation of love packages to the less privileged children, at the Victorine Home for Children on the occasion of International Children’s Day, and in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of China dispatching its first medical aid team abroad, yesterday, in Gwarinpa, Abuja.

Adesola condoles with DAAR Communications, Dokpesi family over Chairman Emeritus demise

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Olusade Adesola, has condoled with the family of the late High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, Chairman Emeritus of DAAR Communications PLC, over the passing of the media mogul, which occured on Monday, 29th May, 2023.

This was disclosed in a condolence message personally signed by the Permanent Secretary, delivered to the management of DAAR Communications PLC, owners of African Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power

Radio, by the Director of FCT Information and Communication, Muhammad Hazat Sule.

Adesola said the entire FCT Administration received the news of the demise of the High Chief Dokpesi with a rude shock and expressed his profound sadness.

He described the Late Dokpesi as an exceptional person and a visionary leader whose immense contributions to the media industry as exemplified by his pioneering efforts in establishing DAAR Communications, a leading broadcast network is indelible.

He noted that Dokpesi’s dedication, passion, and relentless pursuit of journalistic integrity has inspired numerous individuals and shaped the broadcast industry in Nigeria.

He said: “His visionary leadership coupled with his immense knowledge and experience has not only transformed DAAR Communications into a formidable institution, but also contributed significantly to the grown and development of the media sector.”

The Permanent Secretary, who had only recently took over the affairs of the FCT Administration from the former Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, noted that the late Dokpesi was a true patriot, who built bridges across the nation and shared the ideals of a united country, which are also the ideals and foundation upon which the FCT was created.

He added that as a corporate citizen, DAAR Communications PLC contributed in many ways to the growth and development of the nation’s capital, Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary therefore prayed that God Almighty grant the Dokpesi’s family, the political associates as well as the management and staff of DAAR Communications the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He also assured that the FCT Administration will continue to identify with the vision of the late High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.
