Hello Division 21 Bumblebees! HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you all had a splendid winter break with your friends and family! Looking back, 2014 was filled with so many great memories in Division 21! My hope is that our division will only continue to grow in our passion for service and create long lasting memories in the year of 2015!

First, I would like to congratulate Jessica Bae, from Kamiak High School, for becoming the Lieutenant Governor Elect for the 2015-2016 year! She will immediately take office right after DCON! Jessica has done a phenomenal job this past year serving as a Divisional Executive Assistant so I am very confident she will bring the division to new heights as she takes on the position of Lieutenant Governor! Secondly, I would like to remind all clubs that club officer elections are to be held within the first two weeks of January, which means that all of your new officers and their contact information should be reported to Jessica Bae no later than January 16th!

Lastly, I would like to remind all clubs that DCON 2015 Registration & Awards are due January 24th! Please make sure that your club sends the necessary materials in as soon as possible! Also, Division 21 Spirit Packs are mandatory and are $18! All the payment is due to your Club President before the January DCM! I hope you all have a wonderful first month of the school year and I wish you all the best of luck with your new officers, DCON 2015 preparation and of course, FINALS! Dun dun dun‌ Please don’t hesitate to ask me any questions you may have about DCON or anything else! See you all soon!

Hey Key Clubbers!! Can you believe that DCON is already so close?! I cannot wait! Especially because we get to see all of the other divisions within our district, and most importantly, celebrate all the service done throughout the district in the past year! Then when we go to DCON, you’ll have a few items to share with the other divisions on ideas and such for the new Key Club year! I can’t wait to se you all there!! See you all soon!

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT WHAT IS THE ELIMINATE PROJECT? With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

WHAT IS MNT? MNT is Maternal Neonatal Tetanus. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

Preferred Charities Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN Hospitals contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs and provide health care for children whose parents can’t afford to pay.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes was founded by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the fight against polio. After the discovery of the polio vaccine, March of Dimes focused their efforts to improve the health of babies and has been successful with the help and enthusiasm of many grassroots volunteers.

DIVISION 21 CLUB NEWSLETTERS:

WINTER EDITION

ATTENTION ALL CLUB BULLETIN EDITORS!

Your WINTER EDITION of your club newsletter is due FEBRUARY 8, 2015! Please make sure that you start gathering the elements (pictures, facts, resources etc.) you need in order to assemble your newsletter! Get a head start! DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE!

On December 29th, Glacier Peak Key Clubbers helped serve dinner to community members at St. John's Episcopal Church's Community Kitchen. We distributed meals to many people and cleaned up afterwards as well. Even though the event was over winter break, lots of Key Clubbers showed up. Thanks for bringing your holiday spirit and dedication, everybody! – Jasmine Sheena 11

Jackson Key Club had our first social of the year in December! After the December DCM, members attended the social at the Lynnwood Ice Center. Not only was this a social event, but also a very fun fundraiser for DCON. We raised $210 selling 42 tickets! Our members brought non Key Club friends who later became more interested in joining the club! Everyone had a great time getting to know each another! Jackson Key Club will definitely have more socials in the near future! – Vania Park

In December, after 7 rigorous hours of mixing and decorating, our club managed to put together 92 bags of peppermint bark! We sold the peppermint bark outside of QFC and were able to raise $531.60 that will go towards our club funding for DCON 2015! It was a fun experience and the peppermint bark was delicious! – Esther Lee 12

Last month, the Lake Stevens Key Club focused on service projects related to the holidays. At the end of November, our club delivered Thanksgiving dinner baskets to families in need in Lake Stevens with the Kiwanis members. In December, the club was in charge of organizing the giving tree, which includes making hundreds of tags, sorting gifts, and keeping the gifts organized until they were delivered to the Lake Stevens Family Center before winter break. – Ambur Staab

In December, the holiday season provided our club with many wonderful volunteer opportunities such as Food Lifeline and Stuff A Bus. For Food Lifeline, we repackaged 11,300 pounds of Costco product for the less fortunate residing in Western Washington. At Fred Meyers, we assisted Volunteers of America by requesting shoppers for toy or food donations. Our club also had a Christmas Social at our treasurer’s house! It was so much fun! I hope all of you enjoyed your break and best wishes for the new year! – James Lee 13

Mariner Key Club’s main service project for December was Christmas House! We helped unload truckloads of toys and clothing for the preparation of the Christmas House! We also helped out the day of! We had so much fun helping families pick out the perfect gift for their children. Our members loved this event! It was a humbling experience to be able to see kids appreciate what they have in their own lives, but also see the gratitude from the families that showed up! – Honglam Van

rough key club!

In December, we started doing the projects that had been planning in previous months. We gift wrapped Christmas presents at Barnes and Noble to raise money for our library. Also we had teamed up with another club, Random Acts of Kindness, to sell Hunger Bags at Safeway. – Thinh Do, Member 14
