A WORD FROM YOUR

Lieutenant Governor DIVISION 21 | PNW

Hello Division 21 Bumblebees! Whether you’re hanging out with friends, chilling on the beach, going to work, traveling or procrastinating on summer homework, I hope that you have managed to incorporate service in your daily lives in some shape or form! If not, no worries, there will be a car wash to Eliminate on July 20th that you are more than welcome to come to! Our division is having our first ever car wash to help save babies from Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus! BEE sure to come save babies, mingle with people within the division and have a great time telling people in the community about Project Eliminate and Key Club! Recently, I had the privilege of attending the 71st Annual Key Club International Convention in Anaheim, California! It was truly an unforgettable experience! I was able to learn more about Key Club and its service partners, vote for the new International Board and meet people from all over the world who share the same passion for service, proving that Key Club is not only a local organization, but an enormous, influential organization that will continue to grow and impact the various environments and communities worldwide. Although many of you may think that going to Disneyland was the best part of convention, it wasn’t! It was definitely a great bonus to the trip but being able to extend my knowledge about Key Club and meeting all the wonderful people from the various districts in Key Club International was the most worthwhile to me. With that said, from our very own district, IP Lieutenant Governor of Division 38, Kevin Zhang, ran for International Vice President this year at ICON 2014! From the long hours of caucusing to the intense sessions of House of Delegates to the entire board pitching in to talk to other districts about how great Kevin is, the Pacific Northwest District was extremely happy to find out that Kevin won as the new International Vice President! He has done amazing things for his division and I can’t wait to see what he’ll do for the entire organization! I am very thankful and blessed to be a part of the Pacific Northwest District because of the bond and passion that my board and I share both for our district and divisions. The PNW spirit is without a doubt, the best spirit in the entire Key Club International in my opinion! I would also like to thank all the Kiwanians that helped me get to ICON 2014! It was definitely a trip worth taking and I can’t thank you enough! I hope you all continue to choose to serve your home, school and communities this summer because service never stops! With Love & Service,

Selina Nguyen

A WORD FROM YOUR DIVISIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD DIVISION 21 | PNW

"The suns out, so get yo Key Club spirit out! Make sure that your club stays active throughout the summer by participating in service projects within your community! Don’t know what kind of projects to do? Feel free to contact me or any of the other divisional officers and we would be more than willing to help you! Summer is also a great time to raise money for DCON and for the Eliminate Project so get creative and fundraise, fundraise, fundraise! Many people would loveeee a car wash in this hot weather! With that said, don’t forget that Seattle Rally is just around the corner! Make sure to attend to gain new leadership skills, compete for the spirit stick and to make new friends! See you at Seattle Rally! “ – Jessica Bae, Divisional Executive Assistant

"Hey Cey Kulbbers… Oh wait.. that’s not right…. Kiy Cuberts? Oh well, I’ll just call you by our club “nick name”, Lock Smiths… But in all seriousness, I hope all of your summers are going great! But you wanna know what the hardest thing is about summer? Remembering to volunteer!!! But don’t worry, I’ve got a care-package for you!! On July 20th from 11:30am-3:30pm, Division 21 is having an ELIMINATE Car Wash! This is for you!! KC hours for next year!!! Now, when the 1st hours of the school year are due, you’ll be sitting back, relaxing on a beach in Hawaii, sipping juice out of a coconut! Unlike others (and usually myself), whom will be running around franticly trying to find events to get some KC hours in. But anyway, all of you should go! It’ll be fantastic, and its car wash… so.. you know… we’re going to do it Key Club style and basically we’re all going to get soaked and it’ll be “take-two” of the last DMV… I mean DMC… DCM . I’m just going to go now... “ – Kohta Hansen, Divisional Executive Assistant "Hi this is your new Divisional Secretary Thinh! Seattle Rally is approaching quickly so make sure you register as soon as possible! By attending Seattle Rally, you will be able to connect with other Key Club members outside our division within the mighty Pacific Northwest District. It's a great way to meet new people! Also, the DCM coming up will also help you meet new people from our division. The Eliminate Car Wash on the 20th will help to raise money to protect women and babies from tetanus. It is a great way to help our planet. See you all soon! “ – Thinh Do, Divisional Secretary

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes was founded by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the fight against polio. After the discovery of the polio vaccine, March of Dimes focused their efforts to improve the health of babies and has been successful with the help and enthusiasm of many grassroots volunteers.

ICON 2014

On June 30th, 40 Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers departed from SeaTac, Washington to sunny Anaheim, California! During the first two days, PNW Key Clubbers enjoyed fun filled adventures in both Disneyland & California Adventures! While the rides & PNW spirit was crazy at both parks, the real fun began at the Meet & Greet on July 2 nd, where Key Clubbers from all over the world got to meet one another and trade district pins! Throughout convention, Key Clubbers were able to attend informational workshops where they gained new perspectives and skills on different service projects that can be done in their communities, hear candidate’s speeches in caucusing, vote in House of Delegates and continuously demonstrate their passion for service together with their districts! ICON 2014 was definitely one to remember! If you are disappointed that you weren’t able to go this year, don’t fret, make sure you attend next year’s convention in Indianapolis, Indiana to celebrate The Kiwanis International 100 th Anniversary alongside Kiwanis & Circle K! ICON 2015.. Are you going?

$$DUES INCREASE FOR 2014-2015$$

At ICON 2014, an amendment was passed that originally proposed for a $2.00 increase in dues, however, after much debate, dues have been established to being increased by $0.50. PNW District = $5.50 + International = $7.00 = $12.50

CONGRATS CHESTER PHAM!

I was more than happy & proud to be able to bring home the Robert F. Lucas Outstanding Lieutenant Governor Award for our very own, IP Lieutenant Governor of Division 21, Chester Pham! Congrats Chester! He was recognized for his outstanding works for his division by Key Club International at ICON 2014! BEE sure to congratulate him the next time you see him! 15

INTRODUCING YOUR INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT…

KEVIN ZHANG! Hello Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers! Over this past week, I along with 39 other PNW Key Clubbers and six Kiwanis chaperones had the opportunity to attend the 71st annual International Convention in the vibrant city of Anaheim, California. While there, we had the opportunity to attend educational workshops, meet Key Clubbers from across the world, and elect the 2014-2015 Key Club International Board. I am truly humbled and honored to announce that I was chosen out of a field of four other highly qualified candidates to be your next International Vice President. My biggest support throughout the entire journey, from the moment I decided to run until my name was announced on stage, was the entire Pacific Northwest District. So let me take this time to thank every single one of you- all 13,000+ members. It was your support that got me through not only ICON week but the months leading up to it. Thank you to everyone that messaged be “good luck” and to all of those that congratulated me afterwards. Even though many of you did not attend ICON 2014, I still felt as if all of you were alongside me. I look forward to personally thanking many of you as I travel to some of the upcoming area rallies. To all the graduating seniors, even though I will not have the opportunity to serve you for this upcoming year, I hope that many of you will decide to join Circle K in college and eventually Kiwanis. Once again, THANK YOU to the mighty Pacific Northwest District! I look forward to yet another fantastic year of service, friendship, and growth not only for Key Club International but also for our district!

In Service,

Kevin Zhang Kevin Zhang Key Club International Vice President zhangkevin2015@gmail.com 360.250.3999 16
