Lieutenant Governor DIVISION 21 | PNW

Hello Division 21 Bumblebees!

I hope that you were all able to survive the AP and finals testings! I imagine that it was a very stressful time for many of you but I’m sure you all did great on your tests!

Now that summer is quickly approaching, school will end and many of your clubs have or will have your last meeting soon! I want to remind you that just because the school year’s over, doesn’t mean service stops there! Key Club is an all year round club so please be sure to continue your service throughout the summer! Host socials, car washes , attend summer rallies etc. in the summer to strengthen your club’s bond! There is so much more time in the summer and so many people you have yet to bond with! Don’t use summer as an excuse to stop service, use it as an excuse to continue to do more service! For many of you, it is your first year as a member or officer! What do you want to accomplish in your first year? For others, it is your last year as a member or officer!

What do you want to be remembered for in your club and the division?

You are all capable of doing great things! Don’t underestimate the power of your actions and your ideas! If you need help, please let me know! I am and will be your encyclopedia on all things service throughout this year! Don’t hesitate to contact me because the whole purpose of my position is being able to help you and your clubs grow! The main emphasis for this year will be the quality of your members. How do you get your members to become dedicated and to develop a stronger passion for service and this organization?

Also, make sure to attend the summer DCMs as they will be more like socials and a great time for you to bond and get to know other club members in the division! It’s also a great way to help your club earn buzz points for an end of the year party! Seattle Rally is also the big summer rally our division always attends each year! We had about 30-40 people attend last year and it was blast!

Don’t miss out on this great experience!

INTRODUCING YOUR‌ DIVISIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD

NAME: Jessica Bae CURRENT GRADE: 9th SCHOOL: Kamiak High School FAVORITE COLOR: Purple FAVORITE FOOD: Asian, American, Italian, Mexican, Thai..

Selina didn't give me enough space to name everything!

FAVORITE PLACE: Anywhere I can sleep. Preferably a warm, sandy beach.

DIVISIONAL EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT

HOBBIES: I love to go on unplanned trips and meeting new people! Other than that, I play tennis, sing, play my saxophone in a band, regularly volunteer, and hang out with friends. And eat! Can't forget eating.

WHY DID YOU JOIN KEY CLUB? On the first day of high school, I saw a poster in the hallway that stated, "KEY CLUB MEETINGS ON WEDNESDAYS, JOIN NOW! " Thinking how strange it was for a high school to have a club where you make keys, I walked closer to the poster to read the description. That was when I realized that Key Club wasn't for making keys, but actually an international organization dedicated to service. I decided to attend the first meeting with a couple of my friends, and was surprised at how much I enjoyed volunteering and meeting new people. Pretty soon, I started getting more involved, and after many twerks and memories at DCON, I realized that joining Key Club was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GOALS FOR THIE DIVISION? Before DCON, I didn't even know that there were other schools in our division, and that there were such great people! Many other members of the club that has not attended DCON feel the same way, and I hope to improve this by promoting different schools to connect with each other, so that every school in our division can find a way to become more involved. Also, as an executive assistant, I hope to help out our wonderful LTG, and make many positive changes to our division.

Although I am not quite sure what lays in the future of our Division, I can promise you that it will be filled with much happiness and mind boggling memories! WHY DID YOU JOIN KEY CLUB? I joined Key Club because I simply love to volunteer! I have about 5,000 life time hours of volunteering and I saw Key Club as a way to expand my volunteering opportunities and a way for me to keep track of my hours.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GOALS FOR THIE DIVISION? One of my main goals, like many others, is to improve the communications between the member, club, division, and district. I have had experiences with the lack of communications between the member and district so as your new Executive Assistant, my goal is to create easy, clear, and fast responses for our members.

Key Leader is a weekend experiential leadership program for today's young leaders. This life-changing event focuses on service leadership as the first, most meaningful leadershipdevelopment experience. This month’s club spotlight goes to…

LYNNWOOD HIGH SCHOOL KEY CLUB!

“Where can I start about Lynnwood Key Club? Lynnwood has grown from 24 to 68 members in just one year. I am really proud to have achieved something so big with my 2013-2014 club officers. We gained a lot of dedicated members. Ever since our membership increased, our love for service did as well. In just one year, the whole club volunteered for over 2500 hours. Our most successful service project was the Clothes for Kids Rummage Sale. We could not have done it without the help from our members and Jackson High School Key Clubbers. Our club as well would not have functioned smoothly without our Kiwanis advisor, Billie. We may have had many obstacles during our year but we pulled through. I am really proud to say that Lynnwood climbed to the top of the beehive and showed our undying spirit. As the year is coming to an end, our passion for service will not. There will never be a month without service and I can't wait to see what the upcoming year has in store for us.

“Lynnwood Key Club… Words can not describe how thankful, blessed and proud I am of this club!

As immediate past President of this club, it was a privilege to serve such dedicated and caring people. I was able to see Lynnwood grow from a small club of 15-20 dedicated members to a mind blowing number of 68 dedicated members who have all achieved at least 10 hours by the end of the first semester! Not only has the size of this club grown, but also the passion for service in each individual as well. Many members joined this club not expecting to get a lot out of it, but even the shy, quieter members have come a long way as to be comfortable stepping out of their comfort zone to better their community! This club genuinely loves service and is actively involved in their community every single week, having served over 20 different organizations within the past year! I am so proud of Lynnwood Key Club and I am looking forward to seeing where this club goes during my term! Thank you for representing me so well Lynnwood! “Ankur has been a fantastic Key Clubbers this year. At the beginning of the year, he came to Key Club as a shy freshman, unsure of what to expect. But from the start he knew that he belonged. This year Ankur got over 45 hours of community service events. He attended all the events we had with Kiwanis, and Kiwanis president Paul even called Ankur one if his favorite Key Clubbers because he is so hardworking. Rafael Valdez, the former President of Jackson High School's Key Club, introduced Key Club to me and he told me that I should bring Key Club to AMHS. I followed his advice, talked to Chester and Selina and by 2014-2015 we should have Key Club going at AMHS! WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR? I really want to connect with the group and the division and try to incorporate AMHS into all of Division 21. This next year will be a huge challenge for me and it will truly be a great experience!

SUMMARY: 7 out of 12 schools in Division 21 were represented at the MAY DCM! Members were able to share what their clubs did in the past month, mingle, eat yummy snacks and participate in crazy games! We also made thank you cards for our Kiwanis as our mini service project during the DCM! WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND DCMS? You should attend DCMS because it’s a great way to meet Key Clubbers within the division, get out of your comfort zone and experience what it’s like to be a part of something bigger than your club! DCMS are also SUPER FUN so don’t miss out on the experience!

Kim! I’m so glad I was able to get to know you more this year! Thank you for all the support you have given to your club, my club and me! I know it was a struggle at times to be around some of my members… But thank you for dealing with their weirdness! You’re so down to earth and caring towards those around you! Thank you for being one of the reasons why I stayed in Key Club! Your club has been both an inspiration and a motivation for me to work hard to grow the division! I’m going to miss you! Jinha was one of the best secretaries we ever had. She was always so organized and knew what to do when things went wrong. She was definitely the brains of the Kamiak Key Club! Not only that, but she had outstanding Key Club spirit. She would always chant our cheer the loudest at every meeting, and even in front of non-Key Clubbers at school. She will continue to be a spirited leader wherever she ends up. Thank you so much for leaving your mark on Kamiak!

Who knew someone could change so quickly within a year? Well, Tommy did. I remember the day he asked me who to pay his dues to and then now he's someone who made a name in Key Club. He suddenly went to a majority of the volunteer events Lynnwood had and that showed his love for service. It was his first and last DCON and it was great to see that he enjoyed it.

His bumblebee spirit did not die out.

He led our division to the top at DCON. Even if we only had a year with Tommy, this was probably the best year with him. Thank you Tommy for everything you do and did for Key Club! – Jenny Nguyen

Tommy even if you were mean to me back in elementary school, you have changed a lot, for the best! Haha. Tommy I’m thankful to have been given the chance to know you. Seeing Alvin grow from when he joined Key Club to becoming a PR officer to becoming one of our best members in Key Club made us happy to have him not only as an outstanding member, but as a great friend too! Alvin's love for service has grown tremendously over the past year. He is a dedicated member that has literally been to every event. We are so happy to have him in our club. He sets a model for our members with his Key Club spirit and wonderful acts of service.

Most of my free time is spent on going to all of my home key club's service projects.. because, well... Key Club is life! My favorite color is aquamarine and I'm super random and charismatic with most anything! I look forward to becoming best friends with all of you Key Clubbers! Agapé!

Hello PNW! I’m Ryan Miura and I’m one of your Convention Aides this year who will help plan the 66th annual District Convention. Key Club has had a huge impact on who I am, and I hope I can continue to grow and learn from my experiences as a part of the K-Family. I love trees, cats, and meeting my fellow PNW Key Clubbers so holla at me if you happen to see me and want to talk! I’m pumped to represent the most loving and spirited division around, Division 66, so let’s work together to have a great year of service!

I'm Anav Gagneja, and I'll be serving as your communications director this year! Stumbling into that first key club meeting as a confused sophomore was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I've ever made - one that has led to a myriad of amazing friends, countless hours of devoted service, and an innumerable amount of great experiences. I'm so excited to be able to give back to this club which has provided me with so much! Outside of Key Club, I enjoy science, friends, and cookie crisp.

NAME: Tina Sok POSITION: K-Family Relations and International Projects Director DIVISION: 34 - SHARKS How's it going, Key Clubbers?

My name is Athena Sok (but you may call me Tina) and I have been blessed with the opportunity to be appointed as your K-Family Relations and International Projects Director!

I reside in the city of Tacoma and I am a shark of Division 34.

I bleed black and gold because I am an incoming senior at Lincoln High School.

But enough about me, I am extremely excited to work with the district board this year AND to meet all of you! As your K-Fam/Int. Projects Director, I plan to significantly improve the relationships and communication between Key Club members and the KFamily branches. In this upcoming year, my plans include district wide events that allow Circle K, Kiwanis, and many more K-Family members to join together and share our love for service.

These events will be put on in support of our preferred charities which will allow more K-Family members to join our cause! I am looking forward to a fun-filled and fantastic year with you all.

NAME: Ben Scranage POSITION: Projects Director DIVISION: 74 - CHIPMUNKS

Hey Key Clubbers, we have a single year left. In 2015 The Kiwanis family will turn 100 and The Eliminate Project will come to a close. Maternal /Neonatal tetanus is not waiting for us to act. We must fight quickly and together. Now that I sound like a dictator, I want to make sure you know me! I am Ben Scranage, your 2014-2015 District Projects Director. I want to work with each and every one of your clubs to make sure that the Pacific Northwest reaches their goal of fifty thousand dollars this Key Club Year! I promise you that even though I live in the small town of Harrisburg, Oregon, just outside of Eugene, I will be there for any of your questions at any time of the day.

NAME: Suvir Copparam POSITION: Membership Growth and Reactivation Director DIVISION: 28 - BATMAN

Hi, I'm Suvir Copparam, your Membership Growth and Reactivation Director! I'll be working to increase membership and make club meetings more fun for all of you this year! Outside of Key Club, I'm really interested in programming and making things/engineering which I'd like to use to make a positive impact on the lives of others. I really love being part of an organization that is making such a huge difference in the world with the help of so many other people!

My favorite Key Club memory this year was the Kiwanis One Day. We pulled out English Ivy out of the forest in order to prevent ivy from destroying other plantations within the area.

What was really fun was the pulling part, we got to show off our manly aura! We cracked jokes all day and it was overall a pleasant memory!

– Vinh Nguyen, Lynnwood Key Club My favorite Key Club memory this year is from the Mill Creek movie night because it was a very fun place where we got to hang around and read Bao's text messages showing how freaky he is with “Katie Bear“.

– Daniel Nguyen, Jackson Key Club I liked the Kiwanis Fundraiser because I like free food.

– Victor Mach, Lynnwood Key Club I liked Octoberfest because there were so many involved members and it was fun to be around everyone!

– Brandon Huynh, Jackson Key Club My favorite Key Club memory this year was the weekend before Thanksgiving, our Key Club helped Kiwanis deliver food to struggling families. Meeting the people whom our efforts were helping was so humbling.

– Jamie Santos, Lake Stevens Key Club I really enjoyed the Swing Dance that Jackson held this year. It was my first actual dance at Jackson, and I had tons of fun serving food to my fellow students as well as dancing around.

This is a really hard question because I have so many wonderful memories with all these wonderful people in our division. But, I guess you can say my favorite memories would've been DCON 2014. I got to hangout with my amazing friends, meet new people from different divisions and be surrounded by the Key Club Spirit!

I am so thankful to be a part of Key Club and to be a member.

Also, it makes me feel like I’m going to shed some tears just thinking about seeing Chester sobbing his eyes out to see Alvin having the biggest smile ever when he got his award! I believe this would be one of my favorite memories in Key Club. I love Division 21 and I love our spirit but most of all, I love how in Key Club, we are one family!

My favorite Key Club memory this year was definitely the 65th annual District Convention.

Going in I had no idea what to expect. I met amazing people and grew closer to everyone from my division. I also came away with an intense passion for service that I didn't have before.

I'd say my favorite memory was the first DCM I attended at the Lynwood Library. At this DCM, I saw a ton of kids that were thrilled to be there and having a great time. It was really neat to see KC leaders with genuine spirit!

Being a photographer for Key Club is great because every event I go to, I get to see and capture the smiles on everyone's faces. I loved seeing my club expand from only a few to members, to now, where everyone contributes to the community. I am honored to be an officer, but most of all, I am honored to see our community grow.

One of my most favorite memories in Key Club this year is very bittersweet.

Moments after becoming installed as Lieutenant Governor, I joined my fellow LtGs and outties on stage, only to start bawling. After closing session came to an end, we all gathered together, as innie and outtie District Boards, hugging each other, crying with one another, and saying some of our last goodbyes to one another. It was hard to let go of some of the greatest, most inspirational outgoing Lieutenant Governors, knowing that we’d never be able to gather all together again. Though a sad moment indeed, it was amazing to experience such warm feelings and kind words. This moment showed to me that Key Club truly brings, not just a group of people together, but a family together.
