Preferred Charities UNICEF works with the United Nations to help over 150 developing countries to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path. Through community service, UNICEF is able to provide healthcare, sanitary water, and education for these children.

1 in 9 babies in America are born mature. The United States has one of the highest rates for premature babies for more developed countries. The March of Dimes funds lifesaving research and programs and works to end premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality. Every baby deserves a healthy life.

Children’s Miracle Network seeks to battle every type of childhood illness and injury. The money fundraised for the program goes towards research and training, purchasing equipment and paying uncompensated care, in its mission to save as many children’s lives as possible.

GREETINGS FROM YOUR LT.G

CELEBRATE YOUR SUMMER… WITH

SERVICE

HEY KEY CLUBBERS! SUMMER is well upon us, and I hope that y’all are having an unforgettable summer filled with SERVICE and FUN! I hope that you guys will take advantage of the summer and extra free time to SERVE and to continue to make a positive impact on your communities. Service is not something that ends after the school year and starts back up again in September– service is something you can ALWAYS do, no matter where you are. Service is something that you can always do, whether it’s picking up trash in your neighborhood or making a trip to the food bank to help package food. I hope to see you all at my summer DCMs and serve with you throughout this summer!

I would also like to personally thank all of the

Portland Rally

attendees. I hope you had a ton of fun and learned a lot about promoting

service to better our homes, schools, and communities. So shout out to Kaitlin Pataroque (Lake Oswego), Kayla Gadd (West Linn), Kaylene Lim (West Linn), Jorge Reyes (Tualatin), Rosy Castillo (Tualatin), Lily Folk(Tualatin), Rachel Kahn (Tualatin), Bhargavi Korlipara (Tualatin), Bridget Delaney (Lakeridge), Gabby Quintana (Lakeridge), and Daniela Mai(Tualatin). My July DCM is coming up fast on July 26th. As always, Key Club is INCLUSIVE and don’t hesitate to bring your friends, Key Clubbers and non-Key Clubbers alike, family, etc. to these Key Club events! This DCM will be a bit different because we will be doing a service project while holding our divisional council meeting. HOPE TO SEE YOU ALL THERE, it will be fun and beneficial to all members to attend! More information is found on pages 12 and 13. As it is summer, perhaps you have more time to visit your Kiwanis clubs at their meetings! Getting to know your Kiwanians will help you greatly to better your club and find more service opportunities. Key Club would not exist without our beloved Kiwanians. Please feel free to visit page 27 for more information regarding meeting times for your Kiwanis clubs. Also, I would like to congratulate the seniors who have been in Key Club. Congratulations on all of your achievements and I hope that Key Club has treated you well over the last 4 years. That’s it for now! SEE YOU GUYS AT MY JULY DCM!

HAVE A FANTASTIC, SERVICE-FILLED SUMMER! In love and service, Dorothy Wang Lieutenant Governor of Division 64 Key Club International

A MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR Lisa Antonio Pacific Northwest District Governor Liberty High School, Division 28

Hey Key Clubbers, Summer is finally here, and I hope all of you are kicking back and relaxing after a long school year’s end. All of you have put so much effort into the last school year, from taking AP and IB classes, to being in multiple clubs and activities, to all of your endless community service that you have done. To the seniors, a special congrats on finishing high school, you guys have worked especially hard. I hope the memories of the last years in high school will carry with all of you, and I hope you know that all the service you have done in the last few years, has been changing the lives of others. To the club members, remember that when the sun is out, it is a great chance to grab a few friends and serve, and that service doesn’t end when the school year does! Continue all of your hard work because when you give a little love, you get a little love back, but when you give a lot of love, you get a lot of love back. The amount of effort you put into serving is the amount you get back, from seeing a smile from the kid who just got a card at children’s hospital, to packing a meal for a hungry family who lives in the neighborhood. The more and more you serve, the more and more you will see the community being affected, by the love and service you give to it. Remember that when you serve, give your whole heart to the project or fundraiser, and the results will soar. YOU are the change, and with every good deed you do, no matter how big or small, it helps the people around you. From right around the corner to half way around the world, you guys are truly admirable. You give more than anyone could ever see or know, you guys don’t wish that you had the power to change the world, you know you have the power to change the world. Thank you all so much, and just remember, what you share with the world is what the world keeps of you. Lisa Antonio, Pacific Northwest District Governor

About the Pacific Northwest District 64! That’s us!

“In the midst of serene nature and fluctuating weather conditions lies the great Pacific Northwest District (PNW). The Pacific Northwest is geographically the largest district of Key Club International. The district spans from Western Canada to Northern California: with Alaska, Washington, Oregon, and the pan-handle of Idaho in between.” “The Pacific Northwest encompasses nearly 1.8 million square miles and includes over 330 clubs that operate under 44 divisions. Through rain or shine, snow or hail, Key Clubbers in the Pacific Northwest dedicate countless hours to their communities and internationally, and are always Proud 'N‘ Willing to serve!”

“The mascot of the Pacific Northwest District is the “Mighty Moose,” also commonly called “Mortimer the Moose.” Known for our spirit yet incredible dedication to the service that we do, the PNW District continues to be a leader in the Key Club world, and it is all thanks to our members and excellent leadership throughout the district. It would not be far from the truth to say that yes, we’re one of the best, with over 11,300 members proudly shouting out in accord when they hear: “Hey PNW! How do you feel?”” Division 64 includes Tigard High School, Wilsonville High School, Tualatin High School, Lakeridge High School, Sherwood High School, West Linn High School, and Lake Oswego High School. We are one of the smallest and newest divisions in the District, but we are working towards becoming a bigger and stronger division over the next year! Our divisional mascot is the “Classy Mouse,” which is tentative to change- we will put this up to a vote at our next DCM!  Our divisional colors are currently teal, white, and black. We are happy to serve and blessed to be able to experience how rewarding being an active member of Key Club can be. Yay Key Club!!

What makes Key Club unique? By Roshni Chandwani

Dear Key Clubbers, Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world, but what makes it so special and what enables it to continue to grow? It can’t be the ability to volunteer because no matter where you go, you can find a way to give back to your community. You can even volunteer globally through UNICEF, Rustic Pathways, and other worldwide organizations. What makes Key Club is different from every other organization out there is the tight-knit community that it creates between people who live on opposite sides of a city, a state, a nation, or the world. To fully seize the opportunities that Key Club provides high school students, it’s important

for everyone to be involved with their divisions, their district, and international. You can get involved with Key Club International by attending Key Club events, joining social media sites that are created to link together Key Clubbers from all over the world, and talking to your district leaders! In terms of the division, your Lieutenant Governor should be having Divisional Council Meetings every so often in order to bring the entire division together. Your division is composed of the schools around you that have Key Clubs. At these meetings, take advantage of the close distance between you and the other Key Clubbers in attendance. Arrange meet-ups, socials, and joint volunteer projects to increase your impact on your

community and meet people who you otherwise would have not had the chance to meet! In terms of your district, the Pacific Northwest District is composed of all of the Key Clubs in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon, as well as some of the clubs in western Idaho, northern California, and Canada. There are rallies in the summer for all Key Clubbers in a specific region to attend and meet new people. At these rallies, you’re bound to have an amazing time while also learning about Key Club International through educational forums. Each year, PNW also hosts District Convention: an exciting weekend in which Key Clubbers from all over the district unite to celebrate the end of a wonderful year

of service and prepare for the next one. If you have the chance to attend District Convention, I highly recommend it! Yours in service, Roshni Chandwani Immediate Past International Trustee Roshni.chandwani.kc@gmail.com

TS SCOREBOARD

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT The primary goal of the ELIMINATE project is to “eliminate

maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly

60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.” It takes $1.80 to get

three rounds of vaccinations for mother and child. In order to essentially eradicate the prevalence of neonatal and maternal tetanus globally, we must still raise $110 million for our cause. As of July 7th, Key Club International has raised a total of

$2,432,905.64 for the ELIMINATE project, which means that Key Club has impacted the lives of 2,703,228 mothers and children. I hope to see all Key Clubbers do their part by spreading awareness and fundraising for this amazing project. TOGETHER we CAN eliminate maternal neonatal tetanus from the world. An easy way to raise money for the ELIMINATE project is through Miracle

Minutes! During Miracle Minutes, everyone donates as much spare change as they can during the span of a minute. Even a couple pennies can go a long way! For more fundraising ideas, please contact your LTG. We will also discuss ELIMINATE in more detail at the next DCM. Visit the ELIMINATE website for more information regarding what ELIMINATE does and Key Club’s role with that project.

*One important thing to note is that by ELIMINATION of MNT, we mean that there will be fewer than 1 case of MNT for every 1,000 live births.

To learn that over 900,000 fellow Americans and countless others worldwide are lured or recruited into human trafficking is appalling. People that we know, our next door neighbor, our friend from high school, and those whose names go unheard, who will most likely celebrate only two more birthdays while in the sex trade, before their tragic and untimely death‌ As shocking as much of this is, it is reassuring to know that there is an organization out there, in Redlight Traffic, who is standing up for those innocent individuals, and we as Kiwanis Family Members must rally behind our motto of serving the children of the world. Raeford Penny, 2013-2014 International President of Key Club International

MEET KEVIN ZHANG

KEY CLUB INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT FROM DIVISION 38 OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST DISTRICT

Hello Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers! Over this past week, I along with 39 other PNW Key Clubbers and six Kiwanis chaperones had the opportunity to attend the 71st annual International Convention in the vibrant city of Anaheim, California. While there, we had the opportunity to attend educational workshops, meet Key Clubbers from across the world, and elect the 2014-2015 Key Club International Board. I am truly humbled and honored to announce that I was chosen out of a field of four other highly qualified candidates to be your next International Vice President. My biggest support throughout the entire journey, from the moment I decided to run until my name was announced on stage, was the entire Pacific Northwest District. So let me take this time to thank every single one of you- all 13,000+ members. It was your support that got me through not only ICON week but the months leading up to it. Thank you to everyone that messaged me “good luck and to all of those that congratulated me afterwards. Even though many of you did not attend ICON 2014, I still felt as if all of you were alongside me. I look forward to personally thanking many of you as I travel to some of the upcoming area rallies. To all the graduating seniors, even though I will not have the opportunity to serve you for this upcoming year, I hope that many of you will decide to join Circle K in college and eventually Kiwanis. Once again, THANK YOU to the mighty Pacific Northwest District! I look forward to yet another fantastic year of service, friendship, and growth not only for Key Club International but also for our district! In Service,

MEET THE NEW DISTRICT ANAV GAGNEJA COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR Division 44

Stumbling into that first key club meeting as a confused sophomore was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I've ever made - one that has led to a myriad of amazing encounters, countless hours of devoted service, and an innumerable amount of life-shaping experiences. I'm so excited to be able to give back to this club which has provided me with so much! On the off chance that I'm not busy pouring my heart into Key Club, I'm probably enjoying science, friends, or cookie crisp. I truly can't wait for what will surely be the best year ever! \_(ăƒ„)_/ÂŻ

TINA SOK K-FAMILY RELATIONS DIRECTOR Division 34

How's it going, Key Clubbers? My name is Athena Sok (but you may also call me Tina) and I have been blessed with the opportunity to be appointed as your K-Family Relations and International Projects Director! I reside in the city of Tacoma and I am a shark of Division 34. I bleed black and gold because I am an incoming senior at Lincoln High School. But enough about me, I am extremely excited to work with the district board this year AND to meet all of you! As your K-Fam/Int. Projects Director, I plan to significantly improve the relationships and communication between Key Club members and the K-Family branches. In this upcoming year, my plans include district wide events that allow Circle K, Kiwanis, and many more K-Family members to join together and share our love for service. These events will be put on in support of our preferred charities which will allow more K-Family members to join our cause! I am looking forward to a fun-filled and fantastic year with you all. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

APPOINTED OFFICERS BEN SCRANAGE DISTRICT PROJECT DIRECTOR Division 74

Hey Key Clubbers, we have a single year left. In 2015 The Kiwanis family will turn 100 and The Eliminate Project will come to a close. Maternal /Neonatal tetanus is not waiting for us to act. We must fight quickly and together. Now that I sound like a dictator, I want to make sure you know me! I am Ben Scranage, your 2014-2015 District Projects Director. I want to work with each and every one of your clubs to make sure that the Pacific Northwest reaches their goal of fifty thousand dollars this Key Club Year! I promise you that even though I live in the small town of Harrisburg, Oregon, just outside of Eugene, I will be there for any of your questions at any time of the day. My phone number is (541) 220-0066, and my email is ben.scranage74@gmail.com. Reach out and don't feel like a stranger.

I'm really interested in programming and making things/engineering which I'd like to use to make a positive impact in the world and on the lives of others. I really love being part of an organization that is making such a huge difference in the world with the help of so many other people.
