Final bell at Renton Presbyterian By TRACEY COMPTON tcompton@rentonreporter.com
On June 30, the first church ever established in Renton will hold its final service before closing forever. First Presbyterian Church of Renton, started in 1885 and now

called Living Faith Presbyterian Church, is closing, unable to build membership, fund rising building costs and provide the amenities and experiences church staff want for their congregation. “The reason we’re closing is not financial pressure, although, it gets to a point where it’s abusive to ask people to pour money into a build-
ing that is beyond their means to take care of,” said Rev. Tom Masters. “It’s more of the fact that for the health of the body of Christ, you want the adults to be able to meet new people that they can share their gifts with. And the new people can share with them and everybody can have a better fellowship and a more faithful expression
in that body of Christ that way.” Masters has been the pastor of the church for the last 20 months but was involved with the congregation many years prior. 2013 marks the church’s 128th year in Renton. The founding pastor was George Whitworth, a former University of Washington [ more church page 8 ]

Swimming areas open this weekend bbeckley@rentonreporter.com
In another sure sign that summer can’t be far way, this weekend marks the opening of the city’s swimming beaches as well as the Henry Moses Aquatic Center. This week at Henry Moses, lifeguards were busy training for the big opening weekend, learning and practicing lifesaving techniques for
adults, children and babies in all sorts of water conditions. The guards will take their places at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park and the Kennydale Beach Park, as well as the aquatic center, beginning at noon Saturday. According to Recreation Manager Kris Stimpson, the lifeguards will be on duty from noon to 8 p.m. every day through Labor Day at both swimming areas.

Stimpson said lifeguards are mostly high school and college swimmers from the area and the city is still hiring. “We can always use lifeguards,” she said. Renton Civic Theatre will present “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” as its audience pick to close the 2013 season. The musical opens this Friday, with an 8 p.m. performance of the Broadway classic, with music by Stephen Sondheim. Performances run through June 29. V.J. Orduña is directing the production, which he calls “almost Mel Brooks-like in how the show comes across.” “Forum” is set in ancient Rome and portrays the predicament of Pseudolus, a slave trying to win his freedom from his young master, Hero. The son of a senator, Hero is in love with a courtesan named Philia. To win his freedom, Pseudolus makes a deal with Hero to orchestrate Hero’s arrangement with Philia, whom Hero can’t afford. The courtesan has been previously sold to a captain, who is on his way to claim her. “Lots of wackiness ensues,” said Orduña. “There are chases and mistaken identity, love potions and sleeping potions. All kinds of craziness.” Many may not know the musical but are probably familiar with the songs, the director said. People should recognize Sondheim’s “Love I Hear” and “Comedy Tonight.” There are no deviations from the original script, but, Orduña said, there is some nontraditional casting choices that will surprise the audience. He doesn’t give away any hints, saying he wants the audience to come and see for themselves. All 17 actors in the show sing and the choreography by Elizabeth Richmond is “amazing,” Orduña said. His co-director, Colin Madison, was “gifted” and integral to the production for Madison’s extensive background in clowning and juggling, the physical slap-stick stunts. The show is also supposed to be very athletic, with gymnastics on stage. “There are a lot of people performing in this show who have never worked in Renton Civic before,” said Orduña. “We have a lot of Seattle actors and a lot of South King County folks. (There are) people from Tacoma and Olympia, who are working on this show.” Orduña is no stranger to the Renton theater
Director V.J. Orduña (above and below) directs actors in Renton Civic Theatre’s production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.” The musical, with songs by Stephen Sondheim, is the audience pick for the finalé of the season. Brian Beckley, Renton Reporter community. His past directorial positions have been with the former Valley Community Players, Renton Civic Theatre, Carco and the Renton Teen Musical. He’s directed Seattle productions and previous to coming to Washington state, Orduña spent seven years in New York City, directing for a touring company there. The Renton theater community has a nice family feel, is a great place for actors to cut their teeth and has produced some great talent, Orduña said. Last Sunday, he watched good friend and Broadway producer, Ron Simons, pick up a Tony Award for the production “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.” Simons performed at Renton Civic Theatre years and years ago, Orduña said. The director knows that people will come from outside the city to see “Forum” but hopes that the Renton community turns out for the musical, too. “You don’t have to drive to Seattle and fight for parking; there’s some really great theatre happening in your own community,” he said.

It’s All About
SERVICE
Fast. Professional. Friendly. Q/A | with David Brown – Owner, Fox Plumbing & Heating
Q
“How did Fox Plumbing & Heating get started?” :
A
: Virgil Fox started the company in 1964; even as a young man, I loved “hands on work” and was proud to be a tradesman. I joined the company in 1973 and thrived in the environment of high standards and hard work. By 1979 I was half owner of the company, purchasing it in its entirety in 1983. I was dedicated to the value of quality service at a fair price and understood the importance of keeping every customer, since then I’ve expanded but maintained our deep commitment to integrity and quality work. Our customers tell us time and time again that we are the most trustworthy plumbing service in King County.
plumbing services do you offer? And do you do both repair and installaQ “What tion?” :
A
: If it has to do with pipes and water, we have the skilled workforce to both fix ailing systems and install new systems. We work in old and new homes as well as in businesses and commercial environments – we are experts in fixing old systems. We’re not always looking to sell people something new; if it can be fixed we fix it. We offer a full range of plumbing services from sewers to hot water tanks. We help our customers save money by offering plumbing system tune-ups, which are continually growing in popularity because they save people on the cost of repairs by catching problems early. We’re very excited to announce that we have expanded and now service and install all types of heating, furnaces and air conditioning, too. We are committed to our customers and to our staff, provid-
ing on-going training to make sure our technicians are simply the best trained in the business.
Q “Do you guarantee your services?” A :
: Absolutely, we have the best written warranties in the business. We provide our customers with the right price for the service and then guarantee the work. We have received the best service award from Angie’s list for over 6 years and are always top rated. Our customers will tell you about their experience with Fox Plumbing and Heating and we encourage them to do so. 80% of our new business comes from current customer referrals, we’re proud of this record and intend to continue it, every customer is important to us, I’ve built this whole business around satisfied customers, when we say “it’s all about service”, we mean it.
Providing Complete Plumbing & Heating Services in King County Since 1964 you offer any products that could help my water supply be more efficient, Q “Do or save me money?” :
A
: First having equipment in good working order saves water and money, you wouldn’t believe how costly a dripping faucet or “ever-running toilet” can be, I’ve seen them cost home owners and businesses hundreds even thousands of dollars. In this day and age switching from a gas water tank to tankless system saves space, energy and delivers endless hot water. PSE even provides rebates. Converting from electric to gas can save thousands of dollars over time. It’s important to know what works for your life-style and budget and what are your energy saving goals. The benefits of a tankless system are; endless hot water, its green – smaller carbon footprint, space savings, and energy savings. It took me a while to be totally sold on the tankless hot water systems, but I am, today the technology is outstanding.
an emergency, what’s the best thing to do? What about afterhours and on Q “In the weekends?” :
A
: Call us 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Pipes, sewers, water heaters, toilets, sinks and furnaces can’t tell time and often chose the worst time to act up and break down. We get this and have experts available to assist you whenever you need it, at your home or business. We have dispatchers and technicians on call 24 hours per day. On our website we have emergency water shut off videos to help people in times of emergency. It’s understandable that most people don’t even think of their plumbing until something goes wrong, we often get our best customers through our response to an emergency, we’re there and we fix the problem. After an emergency many of our customers participate in our $99 annual Plumbing Tune-up program, which saves them hundreds even thousands of dollars in the long run and they are seeing great improvements in their plumbing systems.
James arrived within 3 hours of my call for service. He quickly determined the problem and did a work around to get me back online. Then the next day at the exact appointment time he replaced the tank. Prompt, Professional, Clean & Neat. Good equipment and a reasonable price. Best service contractor I have used in 30 years. - Tom Nesbit, Kirkland.

Neighborhood picnics beginning By Brian Beckley bbeckley@rentonreporter.com
Summer is just about here and that means it is time again for neighborhood picnics! The season got started with the folks in South Renton, who kicked things off Wednesday. Next up will be the Snake Hill Neighborhood Association “kick-off ” picnic June 20 at the the Springbrook Church of Christ, 10421 S.E. 192nd St. Things really get rolling in July, however, with five picnics scheduled. On July 10, the Cedar River Neighborhood Associations (including Maplewood, Maplewood Glen, Pioneer Place, Summerfield and Wonderland Estates) host their annual picnic at Maplewood Park 3400 S.E. Sixth St. This year’s service project will be a food drive for people and pet foods during the picnic, with the donations, including excess produce from local gardens, going to the Salvation Army
Rotary Food Bank. The following day., July 11, the VerCello Homeowners Association is hosting their picnic at their HOA area on Ilwaco Place Northeast between Northeast Seventh Place and Northeast Seventh Court. This year’s service project for VerCello is a food drive during the picnic with donations going to the Salvation Army Rotary Food Bank. Maplewood Estates will host their annual event July 17 at their neighborhood park at Orcas and Southeast Second. They will also host a food drive with donations going to the Salvation Army Rotary Food Bank. The Lacrosee Homeowners Association will follow on July 18 at the corner of 35th and Monterey Court Northeast with a raffle and food drive with donations, including excess produce from local gardens, going to the Salvation Army Rotary Food Bank. Finally, the Tiffany Park Neighborhood will close out the July events on July 31
at Tiffany Park, 1902 Lake Youngs Way S.E.. It will also host a food drive. In August, the North Renton, Sunset, Cascade, South Union, Victoria Park, Evendell, Liberty Ridge and Rolling Hills and Steeple Chase Hills associations will host their picnics. Also in August is National Night Out, scheduled for Aug. 6 at Philip Arnold Park. The season will come to a close in September with the Kennydale and Earligton Hill picnics. The city grants funds for picnic expenses based on matching in-kind contributions from the neighborhoods. It also helps coordinate the event by providing Neighborhood
Program staff, the Picnic Trailer, food and supplies, such as a barbeque, plastic ware, hot dogs, tables, paper goods, lemonade, chairs and condiments. The city also provides liaison support as a resource when planning a picnic and the use of city picnic game kit, which includes: • Buddy Walkers (new); • Tug-of-War; • 24-inch porthole parachute; • bean bag toss game; • children’s golf game; • children’s hurdles; • hula hoops; • sack race hoppers; and • a volleyball system. “This building has completed its missional purpose. It had a strong presence in this city from the time it was 300 members to now.“ Rev. Tom Masters, Living Faith Presbyterian Church
our view
Congratulations, seniors, you’re on your way
T
welve years ago – 13 if they went to kindergarten – the students of Renton’s Class of 2013 – about 1,200 strong – began their beginning. Thursday night, with smiles, cheers and a few tears, they ended that beginning with commencement and a diploma that’s proof they’ve met the ever-growing list of expectations placed on our students. And it’s proof, once again, that Renton schools are taking the time that’s needed and developing the programs that meet the needs of all students to get them to that stage. Some students had to work harder than others to graduate and meet challenges that might have made the less committed wither. Our story of perseverance this year is Kendra Duncan. We profiled Kendra last week, who started her high school career at Lindbergh but completed most of her senior year at the Secondary Learning Center with enough credits to graduate with her Lindbergh classmates. What it took was for Kendra’s teachers – and Kendra herself – to recognize her talents and potential. That happened at the Secondary Learning Center. She is a Renton success story. Congratulations, grads, and good luck in whatever path you choose to begin your next beginning.
Our sentinels against crime
A
s we’ve written before, there’s nothing more important to a community at large than public safety. Sometimes we surrender a bit of our civil liberties in exchange for a higher level of security. The security cameras in downtown Renton are an example. The security cameras are keeping watch at the Renton Transit Center and elsewhere in downtown Renton – including at Liberty Park. The camera there provided Renton Police with a key piece of evidence in their search for a suspect in a homicide at the park. Even the public is ambivalent. Our straw poll last week showed roughly a split decision whether people feel safer because of the cameras. Yes, cameras are watching us. But they’re also sentinels in the fight against crime.

SBA makings loans available to those who serve – the nation’s veterans The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) would like to express our gratitude to the people who volunteer to keep our nation safe and strong which is why veterans are a particular focus for us. Did you know that veteran-owned small businesses account for a large percentage of small businesses? Veterans are at least 45 percent more likely to take the plunge into entrepreneurship than people with no active-duty military experience, according to a May 2011 study from the SBA Office of Advocacy. In 2007 (the latest data available from the U.S. Census Bureau), veterans owned 2.4 million businesses, or 9 percent of all businesses nationwide, generating $1.2 trillion in receipts and employing nearly 5.8 million people. The facts show that these heroes live all around us in communities across the state of Washington. SBA believes veterans are an important part of our communities. We know that veterans come back with strong leadership skills and a thorough understanding of teamwork. But often times, veterans face challenges in raising capital or have trouble receiving a conventional loan. SBA has recently announced the SBA Veteran Pledge Initiative, a commitment by its top national, regional and community lenders to collectively increase their lending activity to veterans by five percent per year for the next five years. With the support of SBA’s top 20 national lending partners, and approximately 100 additional regional and community lending partners across the United States, SBA expects to assist an additional 2,000 veterans obtain loans to start or expand small businesses by increasing lending by $475 million over the next five years. This equals a five percent increase above historic veteran lending activity by the SBA. SBA also has teamed up with the nation’s 250 Certified Development Companies (CDCs) to launch an initiative which provides financing discounts and training to veterans who own Calvin Goings

businesses or are interested in small business ownership. The National Association of Development Companies (NADCO) and its member CDCs publish their reduced fees, training and incentives on their websites and at www.nadco. org. Veterans can save up to $20,000 on commercial real-estate loans and reduced fees on Community Advantage working capital loans under $250,000. In 2013, 381 veterans have received loans totaling $2.6 million – or approximately 10 percent of all loans offered through NADCO members. The SBA’s Patriot Express loan program has supported nearly $580 million in lending to veterans over the past four years alone. Here in Washington for the years 2009-2012, the Seattle District Office has supported 162 Patriot Express Loans for $17,129,600. Do you know a veteran? Make sure to introduce them to the SBA because we have programs designed for Veterans, Service-Disabled Veterans, Reserve Members, and their spouses. Contact the Seattle District Office at 206-5537310 the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) in Seattle at 206-324-4330, extension 139. The VBOC offers free counseling and technical assistance/training to more than 150,000 Veteran and Service-Disabled Veteran Small Business Owners. lapse or something,” said Soltys. He doesn’t think the church or community center was targeted, saying the church didn’t even think that something like that could happen. It’s “going to take awhile” to plan and complete the repairs, Soltys said. The community center, visible from Rainier Avenue, was not affected, other than some smoke smell.

call in federal Bureau of Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco and Explosives investigators to work with local fire investigators, he said. There is no indication that the fire was a hate crime, he said. But fire officials want to make the point that an “abnormally” high number of intentionally set fires have occurred and that homeowners or business owners should get rid of exterior debris that would present someone with a “crime of opportunity,” he said. If similar fires occur, Hartman said the fire department will step up its public education efforts. There have been no such fires since the June 6 fire. Damage to the building was estimated at $750,000 and $250,000 to the contents, he said. “There is significant structural and water damage,” he said. The fire started in a pile of debris next to the exterior wall, then ran up the wall and extended into the eaves and attic areas. Fire crews cut holes in the roof for ventilation and to extinguish the fire. The fire was reported at about 2 a.m. and extinguished about 90 minutes later. Church administrator Vitaliy Soltys received a phone call from firefighters early Thursday morning. Sunday church services continued as they are held in a different part of the building, Soltys said. First-floor classrooms suffered water and smoke damage. “They don’t want us to walk in, because it can col-

How much water is enough? As a general rule, the amount of water your child should consume (ounces) a day is equal to half their total body weight in pounds. here and there, about seven in recent years, but never climbed back to the numbers the church once had. “When you go through change, change is hard,” said Masters. “Change is threatening. People react sometimes and given a few more years maybe they wouldn’t react the same. So, the church split; that’s old news. It’s not even sour grapes anymore because they’ve extended a hand of friendship and we have too. And both congregations are doing the best they can to meet the needs of their community.” Living Faith has had success over the years, Willoughby and Masters said. The church has planted other churches, other Presbyterian churches have sprouted up around them, they supported a new pastor in Vietnam, local non-profit Vision House and just finished collecting funds to complete an orphanage in Tanzania. For many years the church has supported the Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse, and CROP Walk for the hungry. Now deferred maintenance cost for the building have [ more CLOSE page 9 ]

Ask An Expert.... Elderly Dog Vertigo
Air Conditioning System
Dr. Tracy L. Wood, DVM

Animal HealthCare Center of Renton
As the weather heats up, it is important to try to stay cool in the car. Keeping your cars air conditioning system in good operation is crucial to expecting a long life of service from it. Many people expect that they just ‘need a recharge’ every once in a while on their car, but this is only the case if your system has a leak. These are sealed systems and a leak means a problem that should be fixed. The compressor portion of the AC system is very susceptible to moisture, and this is the biggest reason why leaks need to be fixed. If the air conditioning system leaks out its refrigerant, that means that moisture from the air can get in. It takes very little moisture to damage the compressor, which becomes a very expensive repair. Another reason that simply adding refrigerant to the system is dangerous is that the cars are very specific in their needs of how much refrigerant goes into them. Over filling the system can cause as much damage as running low. The proper way to address a low refrigerant level in the air conditioning system is for a AC certified technician to extract the refrigerant in the car, measure its amount, hold the system under vacuum to ensure no leakage, then at that point, charge the system back up with the appropriate amount. Usually, if an intermittent leak is expected, then dye can be added to allow for easier diagnosis later on. If the system is leaking, then the leak should be addressed prior to recharging the car. Once the system is full and all the components are functional, your car should be producing cold air properly and safely once again! Derek Simonsen, Owner- South Lake European

Vertigo is a syndrome in the elderly dog, which can be very frightening to the owners. The dog is suddenly afflicted with a balance problem, usually staggering, but occasionally unable to stand, and more rarely actually rolling over and over. There is a tilting of the head to one side and nystagmus, a rhythmic flicking movement of the eyes. Nausea and vomiting may also in present. It is not due to a stroke, as most people assume. It is thought to be due to an abnormal flow of fluid in the semi-circular canals of the inner ear. It is more common in older medium to large breeds of dogs. It is rarely seen in cats. Although the symptoms are alarming and often incapacitating to the dog, the prognosis is good. Improvement of clinical signs usually starts within 48-72 hours and most patients are normal within two to three weeks, even with no treatment. A mild head tilt may persist. Veterinarians should be consulted as the symptoms can also be caused by ear infections, foreign bodies in the ear, or tumors. The vestibular system may need treatment, with motion sickness drugs, or intravenous fluids if the nausea is severe or the dog is unable to eat or drink for a few days.

against it,” said Helen Willoughby of the decision to close. She has been a member for 29 years, raising both her children in the church. “I was fighting tooth and nail,” she said, with a voice on the verge of tears. “I’m still sad, obviously, but I feel that this church has served its purpose and has prepared those of us here to go out now to other congregations, other places and share our gifts and the word.” Willoughby still remembers when the congregation split and she stayed because she felt strongly about women being allowed to hold office and lead worship. She called the pastor at the time very charismatic but also very traditional about the roles of men and women. Willoughby believes that God called women to minister just as much as men. “So, I stayed here and it was really empty,” she said. “It’s a big sanctuary out there and when there’s only 28 people, you notice.” Living Faith has been able to get new members

At one time the church was one of the largest Presbyterian congregations in the greater Seattle area. In the 1960s membership grew to some 650 people and then shrank slightly in the 1980s. About 25 years ago, a split in ideology over the inclusion of women and gays in the ministry caused the congregation to fracture. About 400 of the 450 members left and started another church down the road. With scant numbers of members ever since, it has been hard for the church to rebuild enough to attract and sustain new membership. “At first, I was dead set

Father, Son, Grandfather, Brother, Veteran. Larry Parks passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 7, 2013. Larry was born in 1942 in Seattle. From a very early age, Larry displayed extraordinary talent for electronic gadgets, building his first ‘ham radio’ out of used parts purchased from an Army Surplus Store. He designed and built workable bridges and pulleys all over his room, out of Erector and Lego sets. He delighted in helping family and friends repair TVs and radios, and bought a wreck of a car when he was 15, and repaired it to good condition by the time he could license it and drive. Larry proudly served the country in the US Army for three years, commencing his service at the ripe young age of 17. Upon completion of his service, he worked his way through the University of Washington, where he earned a BSEE in 1969. Between the time of his early independence and his settling down to start a family, Larry traveled the world, serving in multiple capacities across many industries. He served in Iran and all over Africa while in the Army, did offshore energy exploration in the Indian Ocean, and spent time with the natives in the South Pacific. His travels took him to over 70 countries, a fact that he proudly boasted of with a pin-strewn world map that hung in his office. He settled in 1974 in the Renton Highlands. A talented engineer in his own right, Larry worked proudly for Boeing on the ASAT project during the 1980s. It wouldn’t be a stretch to call him a rocket scientist, though his focus was on the electronics of the system. He subsequently got the entrepreneurial bug and became an independent consultant test engineer for the FCC, a career that took him into retirement. After retirement, he enjoyed restoring antique WWII B-29 bomber radios, ARC-5 radios and Apple Lisa computers. His quality work is prominently featured at the Museum of Communications in Seattle. Perhaps the thing he was most proud of was his son Jeffrey, born in 1981. Through his combination of tough love and responsible tutelage, Larry was an exceptional father. He is survived by his son Jeffrey (of Menlo Park, CA), his mother Winnie Parks-Lobdell (of Burien, WA), his sister Tina Phipps (of Kent, WA), his brother Richard (of Sequim, WA), his granddaughters Camilla and Talia Parks (of Menlo Park, CA) and his 1968 Camaro which will be cruising the roads of California upon restoration in his memory. He will be sorely missed, and his final resting place will be in Tahoma National Cemetery. Services will be held at 11AM on Monday, June 17th 2013 at the Edline & Yahn Covington Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations in Larry’s memory can be made to The Museum of Communications, P.O. Box 81103, Seattle, Washington 98108 (http://museumofcommunications.org/).

Drunk victim not much help to police The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department case reports. By DEAN A. RADFORD dradford@rentonreporter.com
An intoxicated Renton man told an officer through slurred speech that he was robbed with a gun June 3 at a convenience store on Southeast 168th Street. The 25-year-old reported he was assaulted by two men, although he couldn’t describe how they assaulted him. One of the men took about $30 from his wallet. When the victim reached for the man, the attacker pulled out a handgun from his jacket. The victim couldn’t describe the handgun, but he feared for his life and backed off. The two men drove off in a black sedan; the victim couldn’t describe the car nor which direction it was headed.
TOO MANY WARNINGS: A 51-year-old Renton man asked for just a warning June 4 when an officer found him sitting with a can of Natty Daddy malt beer at a Renton Transit Center bus bay. The can was upright, cold and still contained about half of the beer inside. The man asked the officer to just let him off with a warning but the officer reminded him of the number of times he had found him with alcohol at the transit center and nearby park. The man was cited and taken to the regional jail, SCORE. The beer was dumped out. Renton Police and Metro Transit officers are conducting emphasis patrols for illegal behavior at the transit center this week. ‘WOW’: Two men apparently under the influence of intoxicants or drugs were arrested after one was found May 27 looking into vehicles at condos at Lincoln Avenue
Northeast and Monterey Place Northeast. The second man was sitting in a car that suffered front-end damage when it was driven into a tree in a greenbelt. One of the men said “wow” when asked a question; the second one was stoic, didn’t talk and continued to smile. One of the men reached into his pockets and was subdued by officers. The men were taken to hospitals, Overlake and Valley Medical, for mental evaluation. Attempts were made to contact the owner of the vehicle. LOCK YOUR CAR: Sunglasses, including a child’s “Disney” sunglasses, and a GPS system were stolen from an unlocked car on Windsor Place Northeast May 27. The loss was estimated at $320. Asked whether he had seen anything unusual in the neighborhood, the man told officers he found a pair of shoes outside his driveway after the incident that didn’t belong to he or his wife.

Later, the officer found five sunglasses, including one that appeared to be a child’s, in a backpack during a drug arrest. DOES NOT COMPUTE: After they couldn’t fit a computer into a plastic bin to conceal it, a man and teen were arrested for shoplifting outside Walmart on Rainier Avenue May 30. Store security watched as the man, 22, and teenaged boy, 17, try to put a computer into a bin. When that didn’t work, the two left through the front door, with the man carrying the computer, valued at $750. They were stopped outside by store security. The teen indicated he shouldn’t be arrested because he wasn’t the one carrying the computer from the store. The man was cited for third-degree shoplifting and taken to the regional jail, SCORE. The teen was released to a parent; his case was sent to juvenile prosecutors for review.
