AREA WIDE EVENTS FARMERS MARKET IS NEW VENTURE Farmers markets continue to grow in popularity as folks everywhere realize the value of locally-grown, sustainable products and produce. Now, it’s Enumclaw’s turn. The Plateau Farmers Market will operate from 3 to 7 p.m. each Thursday, beginning June 6 through September (excluding July 4). The market will set up on Kasey Kahne Drive north of Griffin Avenue. KIDS GET THEIR TURN The big Buckley Log Show might be a week away, but some serious logging competition still graces the Log Show Grounds.

Buckley’s Log Show features some of the toughest people from around the Plateau, performing feats such as speed sawing, vertical log climbing, obstacle course choke setting, and ax throwing.

EXPLORING AN ENUMCLAW SUMMER

Jan Molinaro Enumclaw Mayor

It has been said that you live in the Northwest for the summers. It cannot be more true for Enumclaw summers not only for the incredible weather, but for all the activities that can be done in this season in and around our community. Let us start with parks. Within our city we have great parks and they continue to get better as we improve existing parks with updated play equipment and surrounding grounds. Ball fields located at many of these city

parks are outstanding and are booked full with kids and adults enjoying their favorite summer sport. Bring the family out for a picnic at one the parks and let the kids burn some energy. As one drives outside the City of Enumclaw, State Parks, National Forests and hiking trails are only a 15 minute drive away. Our community is fortunate enough to have one

The annual Highland Games at the Enumclaw Expo Center feature famous competitors from all around the country. If you’re not into sports, there are many vendors and historical booths to enjoy as well.

HIGHLAND GAMES & CLAN GATHERING One of the most colorful festivals anywhere is the Pacific Northwest Highland Games and Clan Gathering, bringing a bit of Scotland to the Puget Sound region for more than 70 years. Expect the mighty sound of pipe and drum bands, the beauty of Highland dancing or the physical strength and agility of athletes engaged in traditional Scottish competition.

2019

The event officially opens Friday, July 26, but the public days are Saturday and Sunday. Adult admission is $20 for a one-day pass or $30 for two days; there is special pricing for senior citizens, children and military members. Also, parking is $10 per day. CELEBRATE THE WORKING MAN Black Diamond’s annual three-day Labor Days event is scheduled for Aug. 31 through Sept. 2, 2019. There will be vendors, events, and fun and games for the whole family from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Black Diamond Elementary school field, but highlights include a “doggy day” at 10 a.m. and a pie baking competition at 11 a.m. that Sunday, and the parade (which will march on state Route 169) on Monday at 10 a.m.
