EXHIBITOR: A person who enters displays or items into a Fair for judging, recognition and possible award. BLUE RIBBON OR EXCELLENT: A blue is given to those entries who most nearly meet the standards established for the particular class or level of performance. BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY
Stop by on your way to the fair
As students head back to school, or off to college, electrical safety might not be the first thing on their minds. Help start their school year off right with the following tips: •
Don’t plug too many items into an outlet or extension cord.
•
Avoid yanking a power cord out of an outlet. Hold the plug by its base and firmly remove it from the outlet.
•
Choose surge protector power strips with a heavy gauge cord and overcurrent protection.
•
Plug portable heaters and air conditioners directly into the outlet, not connected via an extension cord.
•
Check dorm rooms for outlets and switches that are damaged, don’t work, or are warm to the touch. Keep kites, drones, or other flying objects away from power lines and stay clear of substations or other electrical equipment.
•
If you are in an accident involving power lines, whether in a school bus or personal vehicle, remain in the vehicle and call 911.
