East County remembers Lindsey Baum with a memorial garden By Dan Hammock Grays Harbor News Group

As lighting flashed and thunder roared last Wednesday evening, June 26, in the skies over McCleary, Melissa Baum spoke to dozens of candle-holding community members. “It’s been a long 10 years,” she said, since her daughter, Lindsey, was abducted and murdered on that day a decade before. The community had gathered to dedicate a remembrance garden for Lindsey at Beerbower Park. While Lindsey’s killer has not been caught, Baum said, the dedication was not about the investigation. She said the garden was a place where Lindsey’s “spirit could

be felt, her laughter be heard.” Local singer/songwriter Ericka Corban opened the dedication with a rendition of “Over the Rainbow,” then turned the microphone over to Michelle Ames, who spearheaded the effort to make the garden a reality. Ames thanked the dozens of volunteers and many local businesses that helped with the garden, then introduced Grays Harbor County Sheriff Rick Scott, who has been with the investigation into Lindsey’s abduction and murder since she first disappeared June 26, 2009, on a 10-minute walk home from a friend’s house to her own, not far from where her garden now stands. Scott recognized the agencies

working with the Sheriff ’s Office on the case, including the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and, since Lindsey’s remains were found in remote country in Central Washington in fall 2017, the Kittitas

County Sheriff ’s Office. “We’ve worked seamlessly together,” Scott said. “We’ve put tens of thousands of hours (into the investigation) and will keep at it until we bring this case to a close. “And we will bring it to close,”

Scott said. Corban returned and performed “See You Again,” a song that Melissa Baum told Corban “has gotten her through some dark times over the last decade.”

Saturday Morning Market County wildfire danger low for now back this weekend in Monte By Michael Lang Grays Harbor News Group

Happy Fourth of July. As you celebrate today and this weekend, please remember to be careful and safe. The National Forest Service has issued a warning about moderate to severe drought conditions in Olympic National Park and elsewhere. “Temperature and precipitation outlooks continue to indicate warm, dry conditions extending through the summer season,” a release states. “This had led to above normal potential for significant fire activity.” Fire danger late last week was low in Grays Harbor County, according to Grays Harbor County Emergency Management and the state Department of Natural Resources.

“Even though we are in a low wildfire warning right now, that could change pretty quickly depending on the weather,” said Hannah Cleverly, the deputy director of county Emergency Management. People often enjoy camping on long weekends. Cleverly said it’s important for campers in Grays Harbor County and beyond to be safe with camp fires. “We want to make sure that we are completely extinguishing and drowning embers,” she said. “(Campers should) make sure that it is drowned before you leave the campsite, because with the winds we have here in Grays Harbor County, embers can spread quickly.” The Forest Service also warned that Olympic National Forest and See FIRE, Page A-4

Two resurfacing projects recently neared completion in Montesano. The projects were on West Broadway and on Third Street. On Third, the city replaced a 65-year-old asbestos cement water main and replaced the badly deteriorated driving surface. Curb ramps and parts of the stormwater system also were updated. Funding for the project came from the city’s general, water and stormwater funds. On the Broadway project, the city said on its website, the “pavement is getting old and the driving surface is beginning to fail.” Curb ramps also were updated. Money for this project came from a state Transportation Improvement Board grant and from the city’s general fund. The stretch of Broadway from Main Street west to Ninth Street was replaced.

PAGES OF THE PAST 125 years ago

July 6, 1894 The Fourth of July was about as quiet a day as Montesano ever experienced. With celebrations in nearly every other town in the country, but very few people remained at home. Aberdeen captured the greater part of the Montesano people, while Hoquiam and Elma each got a good share.

July 4, 1919 Tuesday night, the city council rejected the plan proposed by a delegation of ministers to close all picture shows and pool halls on Sundays. The ministers met with the council and presented their petition, for they felt that to remain open on Sunday was a desecration of the Sabbath. After a general discussion of the subject, the council rejected the petition as the council did not feel that they were capable of deciding a matter of that scope without a general expression of the sentiment of the people of this city.

*** Eldridge Wheeler, who taught the Fairview school, west of town, during the past year, has commenced teaching a summer term at Otter, up the Wynooche River. *** The Montesano baseball club defeated the Cosmopolis team at Cosmopolis last Sunday by a score of 21 to 7. Montesano scored twelve runs in the first inning, which nearly took all interest out of the game. *** Talk about Fourth of July celebration! Col. W.H. Blair was about the happiest man in the county Wednesday. A ten-pound girl arrived at his house that morning. It wouldn’t surprise anyone now if the colonel came out a straight Republican in honor of the event.

*** The Montesano baseball team this year is composed of all old time stars. In fact there are several of the boys who have been Northwest professionals and who are still good enough to get in that class if they wanted to. Against them, the N.P. railroaders, strengthened it may be admitted by some fast semiprofessionals, have signed up to play three games — one each afternoon — for the purse of $250. These ball games, of course, will be at the Ball Park.

Montesano folks, and particularly women who want to help by working in a war plant, have been most urgently invited to apply for work as soon as possible at the Lamb-Grays Harbor Machinery company in Hoquiam, according to Manager George Lamb, this Thursday morning in a personal telephone conversation with the editor of The Vidette. Elmer Rama of Montesano has been designated by Manager Lamb to be the company’s personnel representative for the east Grays Harbor area. A huge quarter-of-amillion dollar contract has been awarded the Lamb company and a completely new shift of workers is being organized immediately, it was explained. Most of the jobs will be ones that women can perform to advantage. Such jobs as inspectors of shell cases, using highly accurate gauges, and as assembly line adjusters are open to women right away, Lamb said. *** After the strawberry harvest, it is very important to “follow up” by giving the home garden patch special care, because it is during this post-harvest period that the plants produce and store food reserves for next year’s crop. The plants should be watered in the summer enough to keep them growing. With some varieties,

the beds become too thick. Ordinarily the plants (except for everbearers and beds which bore their first crop this year) should be thinned out about 6 inches apart when planted in a matted bed or row. If you keep your plants in matted rows, you can simply spade or plow under the plants on one side of the row, pulverizing the soil and firming it back against the remaining part of the row.

Christiansen, county auditor, charging him with “misuse” of public funds. The latest indictment returned is against Albert Lyford, Seattle timber cruiser, employed by the county Assessor’s Office for timber and land appraisal. He has been charged with seven counts of perjury in the second degree. The indictment was served on Lyford at the headquarters of the Seattle police department and in the presence of his attorney. Close to home: Small-town feel, big-city dental service in Elma Living in Grays Harbor County, you may be used to traveling to Olympia or even Tacoma for certain dental procedures. The time that takes may even mean that you sometimes skip care you need. “Dr. Kathie” Seibert, who co-owns and operates Elma Family Dental and grew up in a small town herself, knows what it’s like to have to book time off work to fit in a trip to the dentist. Having a dental clinic closer to home – and open Tuesday evenings! – can remove the time factor from your “reasons not to go” list, she says. Your one-stop shop for dental improvements Not only is Elma Family Dental’s clinic conveniently located just up the Olympic Highway from Aberdeen, they offer a variety of services to limit those extra trips, Dr. Kathie says. “Our claim to fame is that we do everything,” she says. She and fellow dentist Dr. Stephen Edwards were U.S. Army dentists together and, along with the office’s third dentist, Dr. Malcolm Davis, have a wealth of experience and knowledge. Here’s some of the treatments you can receive in Elma: • Keeping your teeth in tip-top shape: With regular preventive work like cleanings, fluoride treatments and checkups, your trips back to the office will be limited, no matter what your age. • Trading silver for white: Not only are the old amalgam (silver) fillings darker and sometimes less durable, replacing them with composite

fillings gives you a more natural look, with less of the original tooth structure removed. • Updating your smile: Looking for an fresh new look? Options range from teeth whitening, bonding and veneers for improving your smile to bridges and crowns – check out how you can personalize your crown. • Have a dental emergency? Toothaches, abscesses and other problems can leave you hurting, so the Elma Family Dental team does their best to see you as quickly as possible. “Our goal is trying to get people out of pain that same day,” Dr. Kathie says. • Coming soon: Among the treatments and technologies the clinic will have available soon are the Vivilite early oral cancer-detection and screening device, digital impressions of teeth to allow for same-day crown service, and buffered anesthetic to allow for longer periods of freezing and less pain during major dental procedures. Does going to the dentist worry you? If the idea of dental care or even anesthetic leaves you anxious, you can be sedated before undergoing treatment. Sedation is also possible to reduce mouth fatigue if you’re scheduled for multiple procedures in a day.

To book your next appointment, visit Elma Family Dental online, call them at 360-861-8318 or email elmafamilydental@gmail.com. You can also follow them on Facebook.

A plumb job The Elma Chamber of Commerce threw a ribbon cutting ceremony for A Plumbing Doctor Inc. on Wednesday, June 26, in Elma. East County dignitaries attended, including Elma Police Chief Susan Shultz and Montesano Councilman Dan Wood. Co-owners Michael Walther and Health Wulf and manager Larry Burgher attended and spoke at the event. A Plumbing Doctor Inc. says its licensed plumbers offer new construction, tankless heaters, they can “sweat” copper, gas and more. “We’re hiring right now.

We’re looking for certified plumbers,” Burgher said. Walther has 15 years of experience as a plumber, most recently managing a crew of five plumbers at Chehalis Plumbing. “Grays Harbor is our home,” Walther said. They also do work in Lewis and Thurston counties.

Samuel Smith was a man of many difficult and varied accomplishments. He was an outstanding Baptist preacher and a patriot of the past century. He was an 1829 graduate of Harvard and studied for the ministry at Andover Theological Seminary. He went on to become a successful Baptist pastor at several churches in the East and in 1843 compiled a hymnal called, “The Psalmist.” During his lifetime, he composed 150 hymns. He was later editor of a missionary magazine, secretary of the Baptist Missionary Union, an accomplished linguist master of 15 languages, he traveled overseas and had started learning Russian just prior to his death at age 86. In his last year of school at Andover, this giant of our past, wrote a song on a scrap of paper 6” long and 2½” wide. He later said it took only 30 minutes to write the song, which during his life, he saw become widely used and loved by those who sang it. Actually, this song he found in German music, and upon translating it, thought it could be adapted to our language and people. The tune for this song is the national or semi-national tune for some 20 countries around the world. We know this song as: “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” by Samuel Smith My country ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee, I sing, Land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims’ pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring.

Tell me how I’m doing By Michael Lang Grays Harbor News Group

It’s been almost a year since I became editor at The Vidette? I would like you to tell me how I’m doing. Please. Am I covering the stories you want? Are you getting the news you want? What am I missing? What do you wish you’d see less of? There are not many letters

to the editor coming in to the paper. That could be good or that could be bad. Online readership is up, according to the analytic reports I get from Google Analytics. That’s good. Subscriptions have been down, but I don’t know if it’s better or worse since I’ve arrived. Would you like me to touch on more national news? Would you like me to

tell you my thoughts on the border with Mexico? Should I run the tragic picture of the father and daughter who died trying to cross the Rio Grande? If that was going on at the border with Canada, you can bet we’d be talking about it more. Would you like to talk about recent historical moments happening in North Korea?

How about news on abortion? I have a feeling you’d rather I kept it local. We have some fun stories coming up. Rep. Mike Chapman hopes to use Montesano’s tree farm as an example for other communities in the state. Little League is in full swing. We’ll have some stories on those. In next week’s paper will be an advance on the Historic

Montesano Car Show. We’re working on a story on the high school stadium in Elma. And did you hear about the LeMay transfer station coming to East County? We’ll look at that and let you know what’s going on and when it will open. Please, tell me what you think of The Vidette. And let me know about anything else East County related.

My email is editor@ thevidette.com if you’d like to send a Letter to the Editor or comment. You also can send them to Letters to the Editor, P.O. Box 671, Montesano, WA 98563. If you’d rather tell my boss what you think of me, his email is editor@ thedailyworld.com. Michael Lang, editor at The Vidette, 360-537-3936 or editor@thevidette.com.

LETTERS POLICY The Vidette welcomes letters to the editor. • Letters exceeding 500 words may be returned to the writer for revision. We strive to publish all letters. • All letters must have a valid signature, with a printed name, address and daytime phone number for verification. Only the name and town/community are printed. • Deadline to appear in the next publication is 5 p.m. Friday. Because of the volume of letters received, not all letters are published the week they are submitted. Time-sensitive letters have priority. • Letters are published subject to legal limitations relating to defamation and factual representation. • Letters should be submitted to the attention of the editor, Michael Lang, at P.O. Box 671, Montesano, WA 98563. You may also drop them off at our office, 109 W. Marcy in downtown Montesano, or email: editor@thevidette.com.

Restoring affordability to a college education is vital to America

hen my parents graduated from high school in 1936, a college education was too expensive for the son of a copper miner and the daughter of a plumber. Eighty years ago, our country was in the middle of the Great Depression and teens took odd jobs to help put food on the table and pay the family bills. In those days no bank would lend money to college students. Following World War II, there was new hope for veterans, The GI Bill paid for veterans to complete their college or trade school education. My father, for example, graduated from trade schools in Seattle and Chicago and became a journeyman electrician thanks to Uncle Sam. In the 1960s, the federal government introduced the work-study program allowing students from middle and low income families to work their way through college. I found jobs and fortunately didn’t have to borrow money to complete my degree. Today, it is much difficult story.

Student loans are the norm rather than the exception. As a result the student-loan debt has shot past $1.56 trillion spread out among 45 million borrowers. In 2018, nearly 70 percent of college graduates took out student loans and face their careers with an average of $30,000 in debt. Growing student loan debt is a concern among Americans. “Spurring the free-college movement is the anxiety over the cost of tuition, which has risen at than double the inflation rate since 1990, while student debt has tripled since 2006,” The Wall Street Journal recently reported. Free-college for all would cost a minimum of $75 billion each year if tuition was $4,400 per year, Quillette, an on-line think tank, estimated last September. “That doesn’t pay the bills even for in-state students at many public flagships. The University of Michigan, for example, costs over $15,000 per year for Michigan residents, and about $50,000 for outof-state students.” There are a variety of other approaches which can make higher education more affordable. For example, in Kalamazoo,

Michigan, wealthy anonymous donors pooled their money and started a free-college tuition program. It is one of more than 300 cities and states around the country offering a variety of tuition assistance programs. WSJ reports since 2006, the donors contributed $124 million in tuition subsidies for nearly 5,400 students. The Upjohn Institute, which has been tracking Kalamazoo Promise, found that tuition assistance needs to be augmented with additional student career counseling in the K-12 system and other living costs for students. Many small business owners in Washington state offer college scholarships and combined them with work and other benefits. Hopefully, the up-front funding offsets the need for loans and make it possible for students to complete their college education or technical skill training. For example, in Seattle, Dick’s Drive-Ins offers employees who work 20 hours a week for at least six months and continue to work at least 20 hours a week while going to school to have access to a $25,000 scholarship over 4 years.

In addition Dick’s pays higher than minimum wage, provides an employer paid health plan, and pays up to $9,000 in childcare expenses. Other donors are stepping forward. Billionaire Robert Smith, founder and CEO of Vista Equity Partners, surprised Morehouse College’s 400 graduating seniors announcing his family is paying off their student loans. The estimated value of the gift was $40 million. He also challenged other donors to do the same. Making higher education affordable is a national priority. The focus needs to be on approaches which are affordable and effective for students and their families. The issue is large than just having the federal government provide free-tuition for all. Don C. Brunell is a business analyst, writer and columnist. He recently retired as president of the Association of Washington Business, the state’s oldest and largest business organization, and now lives in Vancouver. Grays Harbor site gains attention of national laboratory By Jesse Major Peninsula Daily News

SEQUIM — The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory’s Marine Sciences

Laboratory in Sequim is studying climate change’s effects on trees in Grays Harbor County. A study of Beaver Creek is examining how forests

respond to increasing amounts of salt water. Earth scientist Nick Ward called Beaver Creek, which is between Westport and Aberdeen, an “extreme”

example of what happens as sea levels rise. In 2014, a

salmon, but that also reintroduced tidal flow into the floodplain. “We now get every month or so these floods of seawater where there are 80-yearold trees growing,” he said. “We are seeing these guys dying quick.” Ward, who studies greenhouse gasses, said the death of the trees puts the carbon emissions and carbon sequestration in that watershed out of balance. “This freshwater wetland, the upland forest and the river are in balance,” he said. “The forest takes up a bunch of methane, the river and the wetland put out a bunch, and it equals out. These floods tip it over the scale.” He said a model shows that system will not reach equilibrium for about 15 years. Ward said he and other scientists are trying to better understand why this equilibrium seems to exist around the world and how it relates to climate change. “We’re now getting to the point where our quantification of CO2 emissions from aquatic systems is almost balancing the terrestrial landscape,” he said. “Really, we’re trying to understand why that is and how that will change with a change of climate.”

Gulls adjust to first year of relegation in WWPL By Hasani Grayson Grays Harbor News Group

It wasn’t just the sting of seeing a potential victory and three points slip away in the Grays Harbor Gulls’ 3-3 tie to Kirkland FC on June 22, it was the missed opportunity to move further away from relegation. The Gulls picked up a point in the standings with last month’s tie, but would have benefited more from three points as the team looks to stay in sixth place or higher to avoid being relegated to Division 2 in the Western Washington Premier League. Starting next season, Division 1 and Division 2 teams would only compete amongst each other with the top teams in Division 1 eligible to drop down and the top teams in Division 2 able to move up. The six teams who are considering joining the league next season would all enter the WWPL as members of Division 2 along with five teams who will finish in the bottom of the table at the end of the season. Assistant coach and Gulls co-founder Ben Barene said the threat of being moved down to Division 2 added a lot of pressure to the end of the match. “Last year, we could have been happy to tie against that team at home. We would have been happy to get a point and move on,” he said. “There’s a lot of pressure on us in our last three games because we’re in that precarious position of having two teams behind us that could potentially catch us.” The Gulls have picked up 12 points in seven matches this season and sit in fifth place, which would be good enough to keep them in Division 1 if the season ended last month. The Gulls will have to do a bit of scoreboard watching in the final stretch of the season as Federal Way FC could overtake the Gulls. Federal Way has six points and only six game played which means they would need seven points in its last four matches to catch the Gulls if Grays Harbor can’t pick up points in its final two matches, after falling to Club America Nido Aguila Seattle on Sunday. Grays Harbor Gulls head coach Drew Grannemann, right, leads players in a drill in practice last week. The Gulls are looking to avoid relegation by picking up points in the final three games of the season. Below: Victor Corona delivers a pass to a teammate during a drill in practice June 25.

Corona played in the league last season before the threat of relegation was in place and said fighting to stay in Division 1 made last week’s match even more intense. “It’s pretty nerve-racking. The last game we had was pretty critical because we had a tie and now we’re fighting to stay in a safe spot,” he said. Having something to play for late in the season is something that Gulls head coach Drew Grannemann is trying to take advantage of the added pressure relegation can bring. “It brings more validity to our league, for better or worse. It doesn’t change much aside from egos and bragging rights but for kids that are 20 to 22, that means a lot. For sponsors and fans that might not mean quite as much,” he said. “It’s a fun way to make it as competitive as possible without financial rewards at the end. It’s a good intrinsic way to motivate your club and yourself.” When the idea was discussed

THE FISHING CORNER

in offseason meetings, Barene, who represented the Gulls at the proceedings, said the idea received near unanimous approval as the league looks to expand. “One of the main goals for the league is growth. They wanted to add clubs and make it as competitive as possible,” he said. “We all agreed that the best way to make it super competitive is through relegation because it gives teams at the top and on the bottom something to play for throughout the season.” One of the goals of relegation is to make the league a viable proving ground for clubs and coaches as it looks to add more teams while encouraging competitive play amongst the league’s best squads. As the WWPL looks to add a second division to its league to model itself after other soccer leagues, Grannemann said that he has an obligation to bring out the best in his players while the league makes a move to highlight the best of its talent “I think the feasibility of finding

and developing talent and sending talent to other places; that’s what we want to do. Whether it’s the (Evergreen Premier League), WWPL, or community college we’d be happy to help out and move

them along,” he said. “Even if we have to get rid of them, as long as they are doing something bigger and better, that’s all that matters to us.”

PREP FOOTBALL

Long holiday South Bend makes weekend rife with switch to 8-man football fishing opportunities By Hasani Grayson

Grays Harbor News Group

By Larry Dublanko

T

he Fourth of July falling on a Thursday this year can alter get away plans. It can make a difference when it comes to planning a fishing outing. Some will have the luxury of a free Friday and consequently have a super long weekend. Others only get today off and their break is broken up with a work day in between. Having said all this, the lakes received a plant boost which will enhance the trout population in prime locations, such as Lake Sylvia. Other lakes are ready for action as well. On the river scene, anglers are pursuing steelhead. We have just passed the longest day of the year, which is giving anglers an extended amount of daylight hours to pursue fish. When it comes to steelhead, light may not be a good thing. Steelhead are becoming wary of predators; and therefore, they are concealing themselves. They remain under cover for most of the day. This is why anglers do best at daybreak or sundown. It is even more advantageous to fish the hours before daybreak and after sundown since these fish are less apt to be skittish at that time. Of course, this puts more strain on the fisher since they will be deprived of sleep at both ends of the day. Keeping the pace of early awakenings and late night sleep can actually cause one to get very weary.

The state of Washington is a 24 hour fishing state when it comes to game fish. Our game fish can become quite elusive during the daylight hours; so, this rule is very helpful when it comes to fishing game fish in our state. The biggest attraction for anglers will be salmon fishing in the ocean. The recent opening of all four marine areas will give fishers many location options. Of course, our area (Marine Area 2) gets a lot of fishing pressure and rightly so. Whether anglers use private vessels or rely on charter boats, the action will no doubt pick up today. Sunday will also be a big day for salmon fishing. Closely related to this fishery is surf fishing off the jetties or from the ocean shoreline itself. Anglers tend to seize the moment when traveling to the beach; and it wouldn’t be any different when it comes to this holiday weekend. It may be of interest to anglers this year that there are three areas where anglers may legally fish with either a freshwater, saltwater or combination license. These locations are Grays Harbor (Marine Area 2-2), Willapa Bay (Marine Area 2-1), and the Columbia River between a line from Rocky Point on the Washington shore to Tongue Point on the Oregon shore and the Buoy 10 line. So, as the weekend approaches and plans are being made, for many, fishing will be a big part of those arrangements.

After a low turnout, South Bend will play eight-man football beginning this fall. South Bend Athletic Director Tom Sanchez and the football coaching staff made the decision after realizing they wouldn’t have the numbers they wanted to compete in 11-man football in the 2B Pacific Coastal League. Sanchez said the lack of football players in the district has been on his radar for a while and that drove the district’s decision to switch to eight-man. Sanchez added the negative media attention surrounding concussions and injuries can play a factor in low turnout, but noted that other communities around the Harbor aren’t having the same issues South Bend is having. “Some places are football communities. Montesano is getting the same negative media about football everyone else is getting, but the kids still come out.” The Indians are not that far removed from gridiron success. South Bend qualified for the state 2B tournament four times

between 2006 and 2010 with the team winning a state title in 2010. The school had a population of 125 when it won state. South Bend’s enrollment currently sits at 109. The Indians went 2-6 with 18 players on the roster last season. Eight of the 18 were seniors and from what Sanchez can tell, they won’t come close to making that up with the incoming class. Playing with a thin bench against some talented teams in the Pacific League took a toll on some of the younger players and Sanchez hopes playing against teams with a similar roster size will encourage a higher turnout. “We’re hoping it’ll help the participation. Not that eightman football isn’t competitive, but I think it’ll help the younger kids when they step on the field and don’t have the fear of God in them. I hope it’ll be a more positive experience for the kids.” South Bend football will be a program without a league this year as the school’s request to join the 1B Coastal League was denied by the WIAA. The WIAA denied the request based on enrollment thresholds. South Bend currently sits five students above the maximum

STAY CONNECTED.

your local news, in print and online.

required to compete in the 1B classification. The WIAA allows schools classified as 1A or higher to drop down a classification if the school has a certain number of students receiving free and reduced lunch. On that basis, South Bend could drop down, but the WIAA is hesitant to allow that for the smallest classification, fearing a power imbalance against schools with approximately 100 or fewer students. As a result, the Indians will play schools like Taholah and Wishkah Valley, but will not be eligible for any type of postseason play. Sanchez was frustrated by the WIAA decision to deny the waiver and hopes that the economic status of his students can be considered in circumstances like this in the future. “I understand the WIAA wants to protect the IB schools because they don’t have anywhere to move down to, but they are sending a mixed message,” he said. “They should take the socioeconomic stuff into account for the 2B schools.” Despite this year’s ruling, South Bend plans to apply for the same waiver again next season.
