Welcome to the
CITY OF COVINGTON! W
hether you are a new or lifelong resident, we are glad you’ve chosen Covington to be your home.
Covington is situated in a great location, which is a major reason why we continue to grow and attract new residents. While we are just a short drive from everything the Puget Sound has to offer, from the water to the mountains, we also make a good home base for folks who commute to the area’s larger cities for work. When staying local, residents enjoy the ability to get everything they need right in Covington, from retail and grocery shopping to medical and hospital services. There is no shortage of events and activities in Covington. The city shows its pride with special events throughout the year which include April Pool’s Day, Underwater Egg Hunt, Covington Days Festival, Summer Concerts in the Park, Covington KidsFest, Sausage & CiderFest, Spooky Swims, Community Tree Lightings and more. Our recreation division offers classes and activities like learning to babysit, developing dancing skills, nature walks, sports and summer camps, and much more. Our athletics division focuses on offering a mix of youth sports leagues including basketball, volleyball, soccer, football, among others. And our aquatics center offers public, lap and family swims, water exercise classes, pool party rentals, lifeguard training, swim lessons and more. Be sure to check out all of these things to do on our website at www.covingtonwa.gov/parks.
The City has six volunteer commissions filled with concerned and community-minded individuals who provide valuable leadership through their active participation in focus areas including economic development, youth, arts, parks and recreation, human services, and planning. Please consider applying for one of these volunteer positions and sharing your passion for the community! You can find out about commission openings on our website at www.covingtonwa.gov/ city_government/commissions.php. Our regular city council meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. in city council chambers. Residents can come to make public comment, meet council members, or just to learn more about what’s going on in the city. To keep up with city news and updates, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter, frequent our website, and subscribe to receive email or text alerts. You can get links to our social media and e-subscribe for updates at www.covingtonwa.gov/getnews. As residents, you and your family have made a major investment in Covington and your city council and city staff will continue to strive to keep Covington Growing Toward Greatness and be a quality place you can call home!
Sincerely, Jeff Wagner, Mayor of Covington

However, Karma the chameleon is just as unique as Covington residents are and we are happy Karma calls Covington home! In fact, as the story goes, Karma has been calling Jenkins Creek Park home for many, many years.

Karma loves Covington and is excited to be an ambassador for the city – sharing with everyone all of the cool things Covington has to offer. Karma is also another great way to connect with the community in a positive way, especially with children.
After a whirlwind summer in 2019, visiting numerous businesses and attending city events, Karma is settling into the ambassador role quite well.

What to do to
MAKE IT THROUGH
MAKE A PLAN
BUILD A KIT
HELP EACH OTHER
ARE YOU PREPARED?
Being prepared can change everything. By planning ahead, you can increase the chances of survival for you and your family, not to mention gain peace of mind knowing you are in control.
CATASTROPHES CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. Preparing for three days will help you make it through many of the disasters you’ll face in the Puget Sound region, including major storms and even small earthquakes. However, to make it through a major catastrophe, like Hurricane Katrina or the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, you’ll need to be prepared for longer, at least 7 to 10 days. Imagine you are at work, on the road, or at home during a catastrophe. How would you communicate with loved ones? Are you prepared to survive without essential services, such as running water, electricity, or phones for 7 to 10 days?
BUILD A KIT FOR AT LEAST 7 TO 10 DAYS! Imagine if resources aren’t available for seven or more days. You might have to take care of minor injuries and access to resources will likely be limited. Help your family be better prepared by gathering additional supplies and customizing the list to meet your needs. Once you have the basics, think about items you could use to help yourself and others, or simply improve your comfort. Identify a storage container or key location to place your survival kit, then gather and store supplies. Supplies include water and food as well as items for shelter and warmth, first aid, communication, personal hygiene and sanitation. It’s possible your home could be damaged and you may have to evacuate; be sure to include a backpack or similar bag so you can pack some of these items to go. Many of these supplies you may already have at home. For other resources visit: www.makeitthrough.org
BASIC SUPPLIES TO SURVIVE FOR 7 TO 10 DAYS ■ Water – one gallon/person per day for drinking & sanitation ■ Food – at least 7 to 10 day supply of non-perishable food per person ■ Cash – ATMs won’t work without electricity ■ Battery-powered extra batteries
