Congratulations To Our Anacortes High School Bowling Team!!! On Feb 21st and 22nd a bowling team from Anacortes went down to Kenmore Lanes in Bothell for the WSBPA HIGH SCHOOL STATE BOWLING CHAMPIONSHIP. One the fi rst day these bowlers went from starting in ninth place to second place. The next day they kept themselves in fi rst or second place. It was a very tight competition. Only three points separate fi rst place to third place. In the end the team took third place. Th is team was sponsored by San Juan Lanes, Trident Seafoods, Lee Markel and the parents of the bowlers. The team was Kingston Hebert, Joseph Denmead, Aaron Post, Olivia Kolppa, Nolan Longchamps, Peter Correa, and AJ Molitor and their coach Marsha Zott. These kids bowled their hearts out and did a fantastic job representing Anacortes at this tournament. A special thanks to San Juan Lanes for sponsoring us, letting us practice one or two times a week, to Tridents Seafoods for the new bowling shirts this year, to Lee Markel for her generous donation to the tournament fee. To parents of these bowlers a very special thank you for all you did to get your bowler ready for this tournament. Also to Joseph Denmead who bowled his heart out for the team even though he had injured his shoulder in a car accident and didn’t show it. This event is held during the entire month of April, spurring a variety of events throughout the entire County. There is so much for everyone to do and see: Wine tasting in Anacortes, Street Fair in Mount Vernon, Art Walk and Kids Giant Garage Sale in Burlington, a fantastic Home Tour and then some! There are also the Kiwanis Salmon BBQ, the Gala Celebration, a Basketball Tournament, art shows, the parade, concerts & so much more! Tour the area by car, boat, bike or even helicopter! The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival was officially inaugurated in 1984 by the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce. People were coming by the thousands to view the fields. In 1994 the Tulip Festival broke off from the Chamber of Commerce and became an entity of its own. From there, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival has grown. It moved from a 3 day event to 10, then 17, and now, the event runs for 30 days with hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over.
