KEITH STANFORD JOHNSON July 6,1932 to October 21, 2017
Keith S. Johnson passed into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with his family, daughters Danya, Lale and Kari, his grandsons, Rogan (with Sabrina) and Seaver by his side. Keith is preceded in death by his loving wife Alison. Keith has been a vibrant member of the community; developing many areas of real estate and home communities in the Skagit Valley starting in the 1950’s; Parkway Drive, Thunderbird, Cascade Ridge, Thunderbird Village, College Heights and Colonial Mobile Home Park. He also acquired and managed the popular Riverside Lanes bowling alley. Keith also built the John King Rehabilitation Center AKA Skagit Recovery Center. Johnson Properties was begun in 1936 by Keith’s parents, Arthur E Johnson and Beatrice Lee Johnson, with his brother Elliott and in 1953 Keith joining the family business and continuing for 64 years. This legacy goes on as Danya continues as a Realtor, operating as Skagit Tradition Realty, LLC. Keith’s vast knowledge of the valley, real estate, city and county regulations will be missed by all who knew him and used him as a valuable resource. Keith was an avid Husky fan and card player, Bridge being his favorite. He and Alison loved their family immensely, and traveled as far as Shishmaref AK and later, up the Alcan Hwy, to Homer AK and down to Kingwood TX to celebrate family birthdays and holidays. Keith’s boundless energy, generous spirit and determination will be greatly missed. Keith is survived by his four daughters, Danya Wolf (Don) of Mount Vernon WA, Lale Johnson (Tony Flynn) of Wickenburg AZ, Kari Greiner (David) of Homer AK, and Moni Butler (Jim) of Porter TX. He is also survived by his brother A. Elliott Johnson and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held for Keith on Saturday, October 28th at 3:00 pm at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1511 E Broadway.

Do you know what’s happening with the housing market? How about nationally or locally? The amount of available houses to buy is near an all-time low, yet sales are still on the rise. Despite this, many home owners don’t know that now is a great time to sell their home. Trends in real estate can be felt on a national level, but the impact is very local in nature. According to the Northwest Multiple Listing Service, new and existing home sales in SKAGIT COUNTY were up 4.5% in the fourth quarter of 2016 compared to the same time period the year before. Recently, the National Association of Realtors reported 2016 home sales increased nationwide by 3.8% over 2015. National home sales reported by the National Association of Realtors increased in 2016 by 3.8% over 2015’s sales, while the Northwest Multiple Listing Service reports that new and existing home sales on WHIDBEY ISLAND were down 9.6% in December 2016 when compared to December 2015. This decline is mainly due to the lack of inventory available for purchase. Especially when you look at those same December 2016 sales figures representing an increase of 4.2% over November 2016 sales. These increases haven’t gone unnoticed with local professionals. Amber Soria, the current president of the North Puget Sound Association of Realtors® noted, “The strong Skagit County & Whidbey Island sales data shows why Realtors emphasize that real estate is local. National trends are interesting, but not overly helpful to buyers & sellers on

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR BUYERS? It’s much easier to get a home loan than it was just four years ago, and interest rates are still near their all-time lows. Buyers should contact a local mortgage professional to discuss financing options and get pre-approved for a new home before they look at homes with their Realtor®. And they should be prepared to make a strong offer. This is not the time or market to be making a low-ball offer.
