Hot Town, Summer in the City Welcome to this bumper holiday edition of Kam v Brně / Where in Brno. The summer is here, the pools are open, the weather is hot. It’s time to let your hair down a little and chill out with this double edition of KAM covering both July and August. There’s lots to get excited about in Brno this summer. Let’s start with the most exciting of all: the music festivals. Pop Messe (23rd to 25th July) gets top billing as the most transformative festival of the year in Brno. It’s range of quality global acts and cool local acts makes it a real step up for Brno; and the location in the old football stadium, Za Lužankami, connects it beautifully to Brno’s past. Check www.popmesse.cz for tickets and information. A month later at Střelnice Park behind Anthropos, we have TrutnOFF BrnoON (20 th to 22nd August). With its roots firmly planted in the era of communism, the

Trutnov festival started out as an underground peace and love festival in the northern Czech town. Now, it’s moved to Brno to continue in its Woodstocky vibe. The line-up of classic Czech underground acts helps it maintain something of its original vibe, if somewhat modernised. Away from music, there is the Flea Market at Alfa passage on the 10 th of July. A chance to hunt down some classy bargains or some old world kitsch. The event will run all day and if you make something or have some nice things to sell, you can book a table for free. Search “Blesi Trh Alfa” on facebook for

more details about the market or how to book a table. Another exciting project this summer, is the Archeological Summer put on by the Czech Academy of Sciences.Throughout the summer, there will be commented tours of hundreds of Czech archeological sites, including daily tours in South Moravia. The Czech Republic has a very strong global reputation in archeology. Some of òur pre-historic sites are world-leading in the depth of the study carried out on them, including the oldest example of human made pottery anywhere in the world. Find out more by looking up https://www.arup.cas.cz/ archeologicke-leto/ and booking a place on a tour. Places are limited on each tour and reservations are necessary.
