The Boating Magazine for Coastal New England
Why advertise in Points East? • The most effective tool for reaching boaters in New England • A trusted voice • Proven results
Do you want to reach New England boaters? Then you should be advertising with Points East. We’ve always believed that our business model - with free distribution at real boater haunts – is the best way to capture the minds and hearts of New England boaters, but this economy has really proven our point. While other, subscription-based magazines find themselves desperately seeking readers, our distribution has grown to more than 700 boater-friendly locations, with an average of 25,000 copies given out; up to 30,000 for some issues. We think Google is right; free is the business model of the future.
Five reasons Points East is the right place for your business

We reach New England boaters better than anyone else: power or sail, cruiser or day sailor.
Ads in Points East are proven to work. Advertising effectiveness can sometimes be difficult to measure. But we have the best proof of all that our ads work: More than 50 marine-oriented businesses have been advertising regularly in Points East for more than ten years! We are obviously working for them. How many other publications can say that?
2
Our editorial voice creates an environment of trust and local intimacy for your advertisement. We don’t do puff pieces, boat reviews, or destination pieces; readers recognize and respect our independence. Since our stories are written primarily by other New England boaters, readers can relate to what they see in Points East. We talk about the kind of boating they do. Our marina listings are accurate. Our tide tables are local. Our stories are real. A look at our spirited “Letters” section reveals the close bond we’ve developed with our readers.

I get an incredible return on my advertising dollars with Points East. Believe me when I say that I am very careful where my money goes. FleetSheets is a young business and I just have to get a return on my advertising investment. But Points East is really a no brainer. I’ve easily gotten my money back. As I plan my ad budget for next year, I know that I’ll be running all year with Points East. Gretchen Vogel, Owner, FleetSheets

“Since Dockwise Yacht Transport started placing ads in Points East, we have seen a significant number of new inquiries come into our main office in Florida as well as through our local agency in Newport. Your wide distribution network really helps spread the word to our targeted audience here in New England.” Ann Souder, Sales Manager East Coast and Caribbean Dockwise Yachts Transport
The Points East Flotilla We held our first flotilla in 1999. Since then, we’ve guided hundreds of boaters along the New England coast to explore the unspoiled delights of the Canadian maritimes. These trips provide a safe way for cruisers to experience a part of the world they might never see – at least by boat. We’ve expanded the concept to include trips along rivers in Maine and also to bring cruisers from southern New England to the shores of Midcoast Maine.
We’re involved in the community We take an active role in the boating community throughout New England. We are proud to sponsor the annual Yachtsman of the Year award given out at the annual banquet of the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association.
Online as well as on the water We sponsor the Points East Parley, an online forum where boaters from all walks of life can ask and answer questions about boats, boating and crusing. Our online crew match listings connect captains and crew from all over New England. Looking for a marina? Our regionally organized marina listings and the best place to start if you’re looking for a berth anywhere along the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
