Welcome

24 SEPTEMBER - 12 OCTOBER Main Theatre • Running time approx 45 minutes, no interval Little Angel Theatre presents

It gives me great pleasure to introduce my first season as Polka’s Artistic Director. For 35 years, Polka has inspired children with world-class theatre and we mark this anniversary with a Foyer exhibition of costumes, puppets and props from past productions. This autumn we also celebrate the 25th anniversary of Michael Rosen’s We’re Going on a Bear Hunt with a beautiful production by puppetry maestros Little Angel Theatre, as well as the 50th anniversary of Jeff Brown’s novel Flat Stanley with a show from Polka regulars, Engine House. Completing our season of classic books is one of the greatest children’s stories ever told... JM Barrie’s Peter Pan. This winter, our enchanting new adaptation will transport the whole family to Neverland with plenty of songs, swashbuckling fun and fairy dust! All generations will enjoy our new production for ages 2 - 5 in the Adventure Theatre, Grandad, Me… and Teddy Too, which celebrates the special place grandparents have in young children’s lives. For ages 10+ we welcome Theatre Hullabaloo with Angel, a heart-warming story about growing up and growing old. As always, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved through our Take Part programme, including the launch of Polka Youth Theatre for 9 -14s.

Creative Courses & Workshops

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt Michael Rosen’s thrilling and funny adventure comes to life in this entrancing puppetry production from Little Angel Theatre, directed by Peter Glanville and with music and lyrics by renowned singer-songwriter Barb Jungr. We’re going on a bear hunt. We’re going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day! We’re not scared. A family go on an expedition of a lifetime – running down the grassy bank, squelching over the oozy mud and peering into a dark cave… what will they find?

Peter Glanville Artistic Director

If you take part in a Polka workshop or see a show at Polka, it counts towards your Arts Award.
