Survey: Rationale: Initial research to inform the design of a Christmas planner. These responses will inform whether points are focused on or disregarded.
Responses: Not knowing what to buy - 78.3% Lack of planning what to buy - 38.8% Lack of a set budget - 38.7% Not knowing where to shop - 36.9% Forgetting what to buy while shopping - 28.2% Forgetting who to buy for - 18.4% Not knowing when to go shopping - 17.1%
‘Other’ Responses: ● ● ●
Lack of money (made up the vast majority of other responses) Forgetting hobbies/interests of recipients Running out of time to go shopping
The ‘Other’ responses were mostly irrelevant to a Christmas planner, as they involved not having enough money. It was important to include the option in case I had overlooked a key factor, however I seem to have covered the main issues that could be solved with a printed planner.
Interpretations: Surprising statistics: Only 28.2% of people report they forget what to buy while shopping. However, in hindsight I should have asked whether people wrote a shopping list, as this would be a relevant reason. Under this assumption I will continue to design a shopping list. From this: From the findings I can see that all options have a demand. As the highest reported issue, the planner will focus on solving the issue of ‘Not knowing what to buy’. This may take up the most space on the planner, or have the most content to help out. In contrast, solving ‘ Not knowing when to go shopping’ won’t be a focal part of the planner.
