THE GROWN UP CHOCOLATE COMPANY

COLLABORATIVE BRIEF:

BRIEF ANALYSIS:

On understanding the market: -Why would a customer want to send chocolate to a friend? -How could the design reflect a friend sending a gift? Our answer: provide preset occassions to choose from, with the overarching aesthetic of sending mail to a loved one.

AIMS:

-Predesigned box sleeves with slight customisation -Customisable templates for mini chocolate bars -Postage material -Hand lettered font -A set of graphics to upload during customisation -Landing webpage

THE GROWN UP CHOCOLATE COMPANY STAGE 2:

Developing the illustrations. I needed to provide Hattie with spot illustrations for her to use for the website mockups. I began vectorising the illustrations, however wasn’t happy with how flat they looked. Instead, I used photoshop brushes to add texture, which looked more authentic when placed upon a paper background. This media change also provoked the colour palette to reflect the postal system. The red, blue and paper cream shades worked well alongside the company’s signature deep brown. Along with the brown, I applied the company’s vibrant pink. This tied the design in more with the existing branding. However, I was concerned it still didn’t fit in enough with their existing packaging, so swapped the hand lettered centre piece idea for their signature, upper case font.

A design decision to better adhere to the company branding.

THE GROWN UP CHOCOLATE COMPANY 3rd MEETING:

In this meeting I explained my reasons for the packaging design change, and Hattie agreed it was more suited to the company.

STAGE 3:

I applied the agreed design to the 6 sleeves we had decided upon.

4th MEETING:

With the bulk of the development finished, we spent the day working together, in person, to iron out the final tasks and ensure we both agreed on the resoluation of every element. Tasks completed: -Extra stickers decided -Sleeve improvements decided and work divided between us -Postal stickers designed -Typeface designed

A handwritten typeface I created for the customisable note space on the sleeve.

THE GROWN UP CHOCOLATE COMPANY STAGE 5:

Files were readied for print. This stage had a number of issues, including the paper colours not matching and the crop marks needing moving away from the design. Within the booked print slot I had to re edit most of the files. I then put together the nets ready to photograph.

STAGE 6:

We photographed the packaging ogether, I primarily staged the pieces while Hattie shot them. It was then my job to choose and edit the photos while Hattie readied the submission board layouts.

STAGE 7:

I wrote the text for the submission boards and understook the process of submitting our project.
