Mark making / Texture experiments

Copyright free texture found on the internet [not my own]

Changed hue/saturation of monoprint layer, added it to a layer of block coloured pink, cut it into shape & multiplied it against another pink layer to produce a darker shade. Same with yellowy tone.

I aimed to translate texture from specific food items [example: onions, carrot] as well as rustic splatters and noise.

I really like the aesthetic of this composition - the ink marks made were not intended to be anything other than a texture overlay, however with the colour changed, it does look like an onion. The muted background and splatters add a handmade, messy, imperfect connotations which relate to the rustic cooking communication I’m going for. I should look at how I could draw other foods this way, and if it would even work with more complicated shapes like bacon.

Progression: the texture work is now much more free and rustic looking, with realistic, messy textures rather than a slight gradient, which in comparison is hardly rustic/messy.

Linocut experiments

I used linocut and a hand printed method (no press, only rubbing) to achieve a lot of texture in the prints.
