NZ School Team vs NZ Barbarians

Gill Glimmerveen, the SUPA Ladies Schools Section Manager spoke to Polo Times about the recent SUPA Schools Tournament; “Sunday 28 November, sandwiched between Storm Arwen and a layering of snow, SUPA were incredibly lucky to have brilliant blue skies for their highly successful Schools Friendly Polo Tournament, held at the amazing Black Bears arena. “SUPA had limited the entries but all available places were quickly snapped up by the schools. 17 teams took part with over 50 young players aged between 10 to 18-years-old. There was great enthusiasm from all schools involved with many players experiencing their first competitive play.

“All 27 chukkas ran smoothly and with some great instructional umpiring by our umpire Tom, were great fun to watch.

“The play was exciting with all teams and players cheered on throughout the day by the throng of enthusiastic parents and supporters standing on the banking by the arena. Thanks go to RJ polo, Black Hound and Black Bears for their continued support. SUPA will be hosting further schools and university events in the new year.”

NZ School Team defeated the NZ Barbarians

NZ School Team faced the NZ Barbarians in a match at the Dormer family’s Omihi ground. The School side got off to a slow start having not played together before, but by the third chukka Tom Turner and Ed Davidson had gained control of the ball at the back, while teammates Liam Parrot and Jay Wilson began to find their own rhythm at the front, this team cohesion resulted in a final score of 5-1 in favour of the Schools team. Lachie Appleby was named Most Valuable Player and Ed Davidson’s Ritchie was the Best Playing Pony.
