Andreas Christodoulides Chief Executive Officer Limassol Marina Ltd

WELCOME ON BOARD! Welcome to the latest issue of On Board magazine; a celebration of the thriving, active, luxury lifestyle enjoyed at the island’s first superyacht marina.

With Limassol fast becoming the island’s most innovative and progressive destination, our residents have the very best of the city literally on their doorstep.

As Cyprus’ only project that can claim to offer ‘living on the sea’ – by far surpassing the sea views of other developments – it is no surprise that in six short years Limassol Marina has risen to become internationally recognised as the jewel of Limassol and one of the most desirable marinas in the Mediterranean. Now in its final phase, the last apartments - Castle Residences - are set for completion by April 2020. Along with only a handful of villas with private berths, this is the final opportunity for the discerning investor to be part of a living, breathing community in the heart of dynamic Limassol. In this issue, we explore the beautiful life that residents of Limassol Marina - who come from over 37 countries - are accustomed to; from waking up to glorious blue views and leisurely taking their morning coffee at one of the many quality establishments, to the ease of berthing and our extensive concierge services. With Limassol becoming the island’s most innovative and progressive destination, our residents have the very best of the city literally on their doorstep, from arts and culture, to gastronomy and holistic wellness. We hope you will enjoy this issue of On Board and invite you to experience every aspect of Living the Life at Limassol Marina, within a context of luxury and contemporary style.

PROJECT 8X Sunseeker unveils exciting new model

SUNSEEKER PARTNERS WITH ICON YACHTS

Sunseeker International has released details of its exciting new model, Project 8X, which is set to launch in summer 2020. Exemplifying the feel of a true superyacht, Project 8X showcases the fresh design direction of Sunseeker’s next generation of larger models and will be fundamentally different from its current range. Its standout features include striking lines, incredible volume, a sophisticated open-plan interior and a new ‘Beach Club’ concept – offering four times the area of a traditional bathing platform. Previously unheard of in this size range, the foredeck can also incorporate a 140-inch cinema screen, laser projector and surround sound, while the inset transom and bathing platform have been developed into a highly specified entertainment area of its own. Commenting on the launch of Project 8X, Sean Robertson, Sales Director at Sunseeker International, said: “We are immensely excited about the launch of this project which we believe will dictate this sector for years to come. Sunseeker prides itself on producing the world’s finest luxury performance motor yachts, and the design and engineering behind Project 8X epitomise our next generation of larger models. Whilst each new model is still quintessentially a Sunseeker, this exciting new yacht will, without doubt, reinvent the market when it launches next year.”

Sunseeker has partnered with Dutch builders ‘Icon Yachts’ in a move that sees the company enter the metal-build vessel market, a completely different method of build, for the first time in its 50-year history. The first, new 49-metre yacht is set to launch in 2021, and International Sales Director, Sean Robertson says: “The 155 Yacht has proved there is demand for larger Sunseeker yachts, and a move into metal means there is no ceiling as to how big we can go in the future. It was essential to find the right partner, and we have certainly found this with Icon.”

MA’AGAN MICHAEL 2

Kerynia sister ship showcased at Limassol Marina ‘Ma’agan Michael 2’, the ancient ship replica from Israel that is considered to be the sister ship of ‘Kyrenia-Eleftheria’, made its maiden voyage crossing the Eastern Mediterranean sea from Herzliya Marina in Israel to Limassol Marina, where it arrived on November 29, 2018. With only the wind as its driving force for 75 hours, and accompanied by two privately-owned yachts for security reasons, the vessel was welcomed at Limassol Marina by the ex-Mayor of Kyrenia and captain of ancient ship replicas ‘Kyrenia-2’ and ‘Kyrenia-Eleftheria’, Mr Glafkos Kariolou. The replica is of a 5th century B.C. shipwreck discovered in 1985 at the bottom of the sea, several metres off the coast of Kibbutz Ma’agan Michael, Israel. It is estimated that the ship had been travelling to the coasts of Israel from Cyprus or even Greece (Euboea), and its merchandise and anchor were discovered almost fully intact and perfectly preserved, setting a new milestone in the study and exploration of ancient navigation and shipbuilding techniques.

The 10-day event is one of the most notable carnival events, celebrated every year 50 days before Greek Orthodox Easter. Limassol holds the island’s largest celebration, which is a must-attend event for both locals and visitors. A packed programme features parades, festivities, parties and balls, which take place all over the city. www.limassolmunicipal.com.cy/en/limassolcarnival

MEDITERRANEAN MASTERS

Located in the heart of Limassol Marina, Hill Robinson Cyprus offers yachtsmen from around the world everything they need for the ultimate Mediterranean sailing experience.

C

yprus is fast becoming a most sought-after superyacht destination, and this activity is focused on the rapidly-expanding Limassol Marina. In the last year, a number of yachts in the Hill Robinson managed fleet have paid a visit during transit. The Hill Robinson office in the heart of the marina, amongst the smart restaurants and quality boutiques, is run by Stelios Kazamia, Director of Hill Robinson Cyprus. Stelios is upbeat about the growing attraction of the marina, the island and the opportunities being created by the UK’s impending withdrawal from the EU and the uncertainty that is producing. Hill Robinson has had a presence in Cyprus since 2012. Originally based in Nicosia, it was able to offer its services alongside a regulatory regime in full compliance with the requirements of the EU and OECD, given that Cyprus has been a member of the European Union since 2004. This offered many economic and political opportunities. The law on the island is based on English common law. This, coupled with one of the lowest EU

corporate tax rates, is understandably of great benefit in making the island attractive for incorporation and business investment. Hill Robinson Yacht Management itself has a well established grounding and offers unparalleled services to its international clientele worldwide to assist in running yachts safely and efficiently for private use or for charter. The Limassol office is just part of a recent expansion programme, with a notable new set of offices overlooking the port in Monaco to house the business development team. From Antibes, a highly qualified and versatile multilingual team provides all the essential support that makes the whole yachting experience a success. At the other end of the Mediterranean, our team in Palma de Mallorca has just moved into a new office in C/ Avinguda de Gabriel Roca looking after yachts in that area and adding more hands to the crew agency, HRcrew. Crew recruitment and development, an important factor in the lifeblood of any yacht, whether chartered or not, is now

being hosted here as well as in Antibes and the US in the Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach offices. From being one of the industry’s first ever dedicated yacht management companies, Hill Robinson’s expertise and range of services has constantly grown. In Douglas, on the Isle of Man, the Hill Robinson office service started with the ability to set up an ownership structure for new yachts, all the way through to crew employment and payroll provided by our Guernsey Employment Company. Away from the yacht’s day-to-day management, the division here, with many well known yachts under its past guidance, looks after the project management for a new build or complex refit. It is also backed by a specialist procurement division, able to research, find and supply everything from the important smallest components up to a luxury tender, a floatplane or even a submarine. Indeed, keeping up with the requirements of yachts that ‘go further’ has instigated a whole new initiative with a specialised Hill Robinson Aviation division, able not only to charter private planes for

OnBoard | 25

transport, but to purchase and manage fixed wing amphibious aircraft and helicopters adding to the yacht inventory. Working closely with other international offices, providing the highest levels of service to its clients, Hill Robinson Cyprus is poised to significantly contribute to the Group’s growing presence and capability in the eastern Mediterranean. The Limassol office now has several vessels under management, delivering services that include technical, operational, crew and commercial management, as well as project management. The office is also primarily responsible for the payment administration on behalf of fleet vessels. This ensures precise review, approval and subsequent remittance of supplier invoices, credit cards and ship’s cash, utilising our HRipay secure online approval system. The team also provide a stakeholder function to Owners and Charterers ensuring that charter fees, the APA and VAT where applicable are paid in accordance with the MYBA Charter Agreement.

The Cyprus office has also added the Hill Robinson project management experience to the eastern Mediterranean, with an in-house technical manager able to take full advantage of the nearby Limassol shipyard. Recognised as one of the most comprehensive commercial facilities, Hill Robinson have utilised this doorstep facility to look after the fleet yachts in the eastern Med for maintenance or refit without the need to travel. Indeed, as we go to press, two of our on-site Project Managers are each handling refit projects next door to the marina in Limassol; for one of them, it is the third project at the yard. Hill Robinson Cyprus, as well as all the global teams, are looking forward to offering their services to visitors and captains, private or commercial, not just in the eastern Mediterranean, but all around the world in all of their offices, intent on making yachting an enjoyable experience.

LIVE THE LIFE This is the Mediterranean dream: a life of luxury in the heart of the island’s most dynamic city. Owning a home here means becoming part of a thriving community and enjoying a lifestyle unique to the residents of Limassol Marina. But as the project’s final phase of development nears completion, this is the final chance to live a life on the sea.

private sanctuary just steps from the business hub of the region, Limassol Marina offers its residents an unrivalled opportunity to live on the sea. Complete with the opportunity for private moorings alongside your garden, and in close proximity to a host of diversions – including shops, restaurants, and leisure facilities – it’s the most exciting place to be in Cyprus. Of course, anyone seeking this lavish lifestyle must be quick: of the Marina’s 285 properties, under 30 are still available. With total sales already exceeding the half-billion euro milestone, the project is now in its final phase and set for successful completion by April 2020. The last few units give buyers one last opportunity to own the home of their dreams, says Limassol Marina’s Sales Director, Yiorgos Georghiou.

Home on the Sea

For Yiorgos, Limassol Marina is a home from home, and nobody knows the place as well as he does. Spending much of his life right here, he meets daily with the region’s best architects, agents, and interior designers to ensure every

detail of each property is simply perfect.“Whether I’m showing visitors round the premises, reveling in a workplace which hosts the only superyacht marina in the Mediterranean, or simply in my office with its view of the endless blue, the Marina is the home of my heart.” With a clientele hailing from more than 37 nations, Yiorgos sees a mixture of permanent residents, investors and holiday-home owners. “We have a very diverse community. There are owners who bought properties here and, as a result, have since relocated to Cyprus; others use their investments as holiday homes or as the basis for significant rental income. And many of our owners combine ownership with the yachting experience, expanding their new lifestyle to include the convenience of their own private berth right outside their door!” The advantages of owning property at the Marina are numerous, but it’s the singular spirit which most excites Yiorgos: “It’s a real community here, and all my clients know that Limassol Marina is the best place for a superb lifestyle which adds to the quality of life for themselves and their families.”

“Of the Marina’s 285 properties, under 30 are still available. With total sales already exceeding the half-billion euro milestone, the project is now in its final phase and set for successful completion by April 2020.” Limassol Marina’s Sales Director Yiorgos Georghiou is happy to show you around and point out the unique aspects of living on the sea.

The Centre of Life

The unique location is integral to this sophisticated lifestyle, and Yiorgos is elated to be based at the very heart of the city. “Limassol has become the most vibrant and cosmopolitan city in Cyprus. Not only is it the business hub of the eastern Mediterranean,” he explains, “it’s also the island’s cultural, sporting and events centre, and enjoys a great selection of hotels, restaurants, wine bars and cafés.” Set between mountains and sea, Limassol is a place which delivers it all. A burgeoning business and tech centre, Limassol also boasts a year-round programme of events. International regattas, world-class marathons and the Cyprus Rally draw elite athletes from all over the world. Festivals – including the 10-day Lenten Carnival, the Spring Flower Festival and autumn’s Wine Festival – dot the cultural calendar, complementing an ongoing host of musical, dance and theatrical happenings, and the city’s array of museums, galleries and historical sites. This wealth of interests, coupled with a unique location, has made Limassol the most sought-after

town in the region for luxury holiday homeowners. And, at its very centre lies the sanctuary of Limassol Marina. “No matter how many buildings and towers are constructed in the city, there cannot be another Marina,” Yiorgos reveals. “Nothing will ever obstruct the perfect tranquility and unrivalled views of your home on the sea.

Dream Home

“The last phase of our unique project is Castle Residences, which is currently under construction,” Yiorgos reveals. With a design inspired by Limassol’s own time-honoured citadel, the Castle Residences encompass 61 apartments atop their own private island with adjacent berths for property owners. Entrance is via a bridge, making the property a bastion of privacy, just steps away from the development’s sandy beach, which delivers both total security and 360-degree sea, marina and city views. “Over 70% of these last apartments have been sold” Yiorgos acknowledges, “and, along with the remaining 9 Island Villas” – an earlier stage of the project, which is now complete and offers private gardens, swimming pools and alongside berthing or exclusive water space for the owner’s tailor-made use – “that leaves only under 30 properties up for sale.” Each of these remaining properties is a haven of opulence. “We are,” he adds, “very selective with our property specifications and amenities, as these are important elements of the unique experience of living at Limassol Marina.” Using contemporary materials and advanced technology, each of the Marina’s properties is the last word in luxury living. High quality marble, solid wood parquet flooring, corian worktops, whisper-fine air-conditioning and underfloor heating are just a few of the perks, while the

This wealth of activity, coupled with a unique location, has made Limassol the most sought-after town in the region for luxury holiday homeowners. And, at it’s very centre, lies the sanctuary of Limassol Marina.’ modern wonders of geoexchange tech ensure each residence is both environment-friendly and energy efficient. The rewards of making such an investment are legion, and Yiorgos enumerates a host of benefits, including the 24-hour reception, dedicated concierge services, and a bespoke cleaning service. “All our services are dedicated to serving our clients, ensuring that our client's lifestyle is as easy and as comfortable as it can be. We can prepare their apartment before their arrival, and we have a buggy service to transport them from their villa to the spa or their dinner reservation… we do whatever it takes to enhance their stay.” Going the extra mile is what the Marina is all about, and Yiorgos adds: “Just a couple of nights ago we had a client who flew in at 2am only to realise he’d forgotten his villa keys! Fortunately,

that’s just what our 24-hour reception is for. Our people took over and in a matter of minutes we’d sorted out the situation and got him safely into his home.” Alongside these facilities, the Marina also offers a property management company and a rental service, with all staff both highly-trained and fluent in several languages — advantages which make Yiorgos’s job that much easier. “These properties,” he adds, “sell themselves.” With just a handful remaining, the Marina’s residential developments are now all but concluded. “But there’s still one last chance to make that excellent investment,” Yiorgos smiles. SUPERSIZED PORT OF CALL

As one of the world’s only ‘Platinum Gold Anchor’ awarded superyacht marinas and the first of its kind in Cyprus, Limassol Marina is proud to be home to some internationally renowned vessels. We speak to Captain Alexander Marukhin about why he decided to make the marina home for five months each winter.

Having emerged as the preferred superyacht marina in the region, Limassol Marina provides all the facilities and services that vessels of such a magnitude could need or want, both in the water and out. So, it’s little wonder that some of the world’s most prestigious superyachts, such as 104m Lady Moura, have chosen the marina for both their seasonal and annual berthing. Geographically speaking, the marina is strategically placed at the edge of the eastern Mediterranean, the last EU gateway to the east. As Tom Lord, Assistant Marina Manager, explains: “Cyprus is unique in its position as the first or last EU port of call. Being in the EU makes logistics easier, and we are well placed to assist yachts in transit either side of the Suez Canal passage. Superyachts can stop safe in knowledge they will be able to get everything they need from spare parts, to good quality fuel, to easy flight connections to the three surrounding continents for crew changeover.” Since operations began in 2014, the marina has had over 250 superyacht arrivals, including some of the biggest and most iconic vessels in the world. With berths for around 40 superyachts on site, the marina is currently home port to some 15 to 20 such vessels, and the number is growing year on year. “An increasing number of superyachts are choosing to berth with us at Limassol Marina each year – whether for short stops as they pass

through the region, or as a winter home port for six months or more in the off-season. This is a great indication that we have the perfect mix of location, destination, facilities and services to surpass the expectations of these yachts, their owners and their crew,” adds Tom. On the technical side, the marina provides for all maintenance needs, whether for the superyacht itself via adjacent floating drydock facilities, or in the marina’s own boatyard for tenders, toys and everything else. And with a close network of industry service providers and a crew of Marina Attendants on call to provide all manner of technical assistance including mooring assistance, daily dock checks, waste disposal services, refuelling and bunkering services, the marina offers “the whole package” according to Tom.

Consummate Professionalism

Limassol Marina’s stand-out qualities haven’t gone unnoticed to Alexander Marukhin, captain of one of the world’s most unique superyachts – Running on Waves. Following in the footsteps of his father, Captain Alexander was born a seaman; and although the family tradition runs deep, a life on the waves was also a personal dream come true for this nautical navigator. In 2010, he was introduced to the then brand-new Running on Waves, and the rest, as they say, is history. The owner cum designer of Running on Waves created her by takinj32g all the best features from other superyachts and passenger vessels, and

Interview

putting them together to form a 64-metre-long, three-masted, charter sailing boat, with 45-metre high fully-functional sails, spacious cabins, restaurants and full passenger facilities.

“We have visited marinas all around the world and none come close to the standards and quality of Limassol Marina.”

These characteristics mean the vessel has a unique and often more challenging set of requirements when it comes to mooring; requirements that the marina meets every time. “When we first had the idea to come to Limassol Marina, I was worried; Running on Waves is very light, and as soon as the wind pushes us, we immediately start to move, so we can easily damage other ships,” explains Captain Alexander. “But I discussed our worries with Tom, and he instantly put us to ease, finding solutions to our issues in a very friendly and professional way.” Indeed, Captain Alexander believes it is this level of highly-professional, personalised service that puts the marina head and shoulders above the competition. “The first time we arrived at the marina we were greeted by a team of uniformed staff waiting to guide us in,” he explained. “Usually, when you arrive you have to call the linesmen to come. So, this service at Limassol Marina really made a difference. In comparison to other marinas, Limassol is in a completely different league. Communication is perfect; if I need something immediately I get a quick response, and in terms of facilities, we are 100 percent satisfied and give the marina a five-plus.”

Alluring Lifestyle

But it is not solely the consummate professionalism and unparalleled superyacht facilities that draws boats like Running on Waves to Limassol

Marina. The successful commercial waterfront of this integrated marina resort, as well as the plethora of lifestyle offerings in the city of Limassol itself, have proven to be equally significant draw cards for captains such as Alexander and his crew. Although Captain Alexander is entitled to two months’ leave during the vessel’s winter mooring period, he says he would happily stay for the entire five months, especially as the climate in winter in Cyprus is akin to summer back home in Saint Petersburg. Commenting on the alluring mild winter, paired with Limassol’s appeal as a year-round leisure destination, Tom says: “Whereas some coastal cities are driven by summer tourism alone and therefore close down in the winter, Limassol is the beating heart of Cyprus’ renaissance as a modern, year-round destination. With the marina right in the city centre, it offers a fantastic place for crew to be based within walking distance of bars, cafes, restaurants and all other amenities. And we’re seeing this reflected in the feedback we receive from our superyacht clients and the increasing numbers berthing with us each year.” The marina is home to an international community, with residents of the marina properties at its core. Tom sees the destination operating as a vibrant resort with all the facilities a captain and crew might want, including a 24/7 concierge service, accommodation with private berthing space, a gym and spa, shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Captain Alexander and his 20-strong crew spend most of the winter mooring working on boat reconstruction, maintenance and repair. And when they aren’t enjoying the marina’s waterfront facilities, they spend their leisure time exploring the city. Likening Limassol to any major European hub, Captain Alexander says, “What makes Limassol different from the Greek Islands is that it is a big, vibrant town, where you can find something for everyone, no matter how young or old.” Back when Limassol Marina was just a project on paper, Captain Alexander remembers seeing a brochure with pictures showing what it would look like in the future and thinking, “Wow, this looks like such a fantastic marina and an amazing place to live.” Today, with the project almost completed, he believes that the reality is more than true to those picture-perfect images. “Now that I see the project in real life, it looks amazing,” he says. “We have visited marinas all around the world and none come close to the standards and quality of Limassol Marina.”

The thriving microcosm that makes up Limassol Marina itself has plenty to offer: young families enjoy the privilege of nearby school runs and an abundance of activities, as well as the peace of mind that comes with living in a secure, gated community in one of the world’s safest cities. Retired professionals who have taken a step back from the breakneck speed of big city life have now settled into the quiet rhythms of beachside living, relishing the pleasures of daily sailing trips, unhurried lunches, beachside strolls, or early morning coffees by the waterfront. From home to berth, your needs are fully taken care of. The availability of such facilities as a bank, supermarket, pharmacy, and car rental service means that all necessary amenities for living well are within easy reach. The eclectic Limassol Marina community will warmly embrace you and welcome you to a life of pulsating activity that feels like a breath of fresh air. RESORT CONCEPT COLLECTION An exciting new concept store at Limassol Marina is embracing the simplicity of a free-spirited island vibe. Step into La Plage Marine boutique and fall in love with a hand-picked collection of sophisticated resort wear, gorgeous accessories and the most exclusive pieces for your home.

L

a Plage Marine beautifully embodies a new era of fashion chic at its Limassol Marina boutique, where you can find a collection of the world’s finest pieces, all hand-selected by the store’s creative director. With an emphasis on natural fabrics, the unique and much coveted premiere collection offers a contemporary twist on the ‘back-to-basics’ mantra of fashionistas, bursting with a palette of gorgeous hues and redefining the island lifestyle look. Inspired by Cyprus’ Mediterranean allure, from its warm seas to its fiery sunsets, the collection is in fitting with Limassol Marina's ethos of ‘living on the sea’, with a firm finger on the pulse of the latest fashion designed for keeping cool in hot climes.

Mesmerising Moroccan Flair

Unveiling its first collection, the boutique has paid homage to Moroccan handicrafts; think the softest,

most supple ‘maroquinery’ leatherwork, which has been highly prized since the 16th century when the first loafers known as ‘Babushi’ arrived from Morocco with much excitement, firstly to France and Italy, then to the rest of Europe. The name means ‘flat shoes’ in French, and the footwear has been a fashion staple ever since, inspiring the top fashion houses of the world to each add its own signature to this timeless classic loafer. La Plage Marine has taken this love affair a step further, sourcing the original creations from Morocco and in a selection of vivid colours that are as striking as they are comfortable. The Babushi collection sits alongside another Moroccan favourite; the intricate raffia shoe, which is handcrafted by highly-skilled artisans in Morocco and made of natural fibre from raffia palm that originates from Madagascar. Raffia was originally

braided on rubber soles to create an airy shoe and gained popularity from the 1420s, since becoming a runway success year after year. The Moroccan flair continues into the home with a selection of handsome hand-knotted rugs, crafted with the traditional 14th century technique brought to life by the Persians. Completing the exclusive rug collection are also rugs woven from cactus silk, as well as silk and cashmere throws presented in a wide range of colours that are certain to grace only the most elegant homes.

Iconic Summer Essentials

Island living would not be complete without a Panama hat in one’s wardrobe of summer essentials, and this iconic accessory has been sourced from Ecuador – home of the original Panama. Applauded milliner, Famosa Andina, has designed a collection of hats with a modern and fun twist,

OnBoard | 57

adding to the local tradition of toquilla palm weaving to elevate the Panama to levels of extraordinary aesthetics. Linen is another classic, and our selected pieces come from Dubai, courtesy of Fácil Blanco. The men’s and women’s garments are a perfect fit for the boutique in pure white, 100% fine Italian linen, for the ultimate in light and airy. Linen is always in fashion and the creativity imbued in the current selection by innovative designers is keeping this traditional fabric contemporary and classy.

Completing the Collection

A favourite of the jet set of Paris, the Miss June brand is also available at La Plage Marine and reflects the summer vibe of Cyprus through an extraordinary mix of colours and prints – perfect for lazy yacht days or drinks by the sea.

With a focus on natural, eco-friendly woven fabrics, it is no surprise that Australian brand Palm Collective would also feature in the inaugural collection, bringing their inimitable boho-resort hallmark to Limassol through a contemporary line using cotton cheesecloth, linen and rayon. A selection of up-and-coming and avant-garde designers also make the cut, offering clients the opportunity to be the first to wear the latest trends, from swimwear and accessories, to artisan crafts, whilst the homeware portfolio is balanced with unique pieces and interior, souvenir and gift inspirations from esteemed Roche Bobois, Cyprus. For the most worldly and sophisticated fashion, La Plage Marine is a boutique where the high-class fuses with the natural to create an experience that remains hot long after the sun stunningly sets across Limassol.

SANCTUM MEDI SPA The best of science with the best of beauty

The Medi Spa Concept

Sanctum Medi Spa at Limassol Marina has launched a range of exclusive new treatments that tap into the latest developments that combine science and technology. The quick, effective, and pain-free beauty treatments deliver real and lasting results with a visible difference, from hair removal to face and body contouring. Offered within the award-winning luxury environment of Sanctum, this is cuttingedge pampering at its best.

Verjú Slimming System

The latest Verjú technology has been designed to deliver the weight loss and cellulite reduction results of traditional slimming surgeries but without an invasive procedure, pain or required recovery time. The effectiveness of the revolutionary and safe low-level laser has been clinically proven, and the treatment is free of any needles or incisions. Stubborn body fat is painlessly reduced by emulsifying fat cells

under the skin, which are then eliminated via the body’s lymphatic system to offer visible results. A second system targets cellulite to reduce the pockets of uneven fat typically found in the thighs, buttocks, and lower abdomen through six low-level laser beams and massage with a special percussion device for smooth and toned skin.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal offers a lasting solution to unwanted hair on the face and body. The Diode laser we offer currently ranks as the latest and most effective laser system as it utilises a continuous laser that allows the duration of this artificial pulse to be set as desired, as opposed to pulsed laser.

Jet Peel (Mesotherapy)

For an amazing skin treatment that delivers immediate results, the Jet Peel is the number one choice for wrinkle reduction, minimising acne breakouts, and overall skin rejuvenation. This virtually painless skin treatment procedure dramatically improves the appearance and texture of skin from the very first treatment session by combining 100% oxygen and sterile saline to gently cleanse and hydrate the skin. The ‘mini pressure wash’ combination unclogs pores and removes the build-up of dirt and make-up, leaving beautifully soft, brighter and more uniform skin.

LIMASSOL: FUTURE FORWARD Limassol is emerging as a vibrant lifestyle hub, where the living is easy and the options are aplenty. Through the voice of some of the city’s champions, we celebrate key facets of Limassol that have captured local and international attention.

OnBoard OnBoard | 69

“W

ellness is my life’s passion,” says clinical exercise physiologist and spa expert George Tavelis, pausing to take a sip of his banana protein smoothie, before outlining his daily routine. It’s a routine which revolves around exercise, healthy eating and living well – alongside all the duties associated with running the Sanctum Spa at Limassol Marina. In this role, the self-confessed disciplinarian applies over 25 years worth of experience in opening and managing spas across Europe. Although his career path led him to various dynamic, forward-thinking hubs such as New York and Mexico City, George cannot see himself living anywhere but his native home-turf of Limassol. And since his return, he has been a passionate advocate for the unique wellness appeal and plethora of healthy living options that the city offers. “For me, Limassol is a wellness city,” he says with a certainty that induces instant confidence and conviction. “It’s got the energy, the environment and the potential to encourage and inspire people to adopt a wellness lifestyle. Wherever you are in Limassol, in 5-15 minutes you can be on the seafront,” he says. “Every morning you see hundreds of people there exercising, all year round. You wake up and you have sunshine, great weather, the sea and endless choices.” As George suggests, wellness has an individual dimension, and Limassol offers a wealth of wellness opportunities to match all needs – whether that’s sitting by the sea to de-stress, eating organic, doing sunrise yoga, seaside meditation, or outdoor Zumba classes. “Limassol makes it easy to relieve stress. The sea, the climate, the facilities we have created in Limassol and at Limassol Marina… it’s a combination of privileges that makes a huge difference and can change lives.”

The Place to Be

Although Limassol itself facilitates and encourages wellness-centric living, according to George, the only place to be if you really want to live the lifestyle is Limassol Marina. “We eat, sleep and breath wellness here,” he explained. “Not only does the Marina offer all the supporting infrastructure to live well – with homes right on the sea and boats moored at your doorstep – we also have a world-class fitness centre and spa, and the restaurants offer healthier choices.” The fact that George was the first person to be approached to start a business on-site is evidence that wellness has always been a focal point of Limassol Marina. It was a decision driven by a vision for the area to become the wellness hub of Limassol. “You can’t offer an exclusive luxury lifestyle without the wellness dimension,” he explained. And indeed, the arrival of Limassol Marina heralded a new culture of wellness and an upgraded lifestyle opportunity for the city’s multicultural residents and visitors. Looking ahead, George firmly believes in the powerful impact of the Marina: Not only did it reset the benchmark of wellness by raising both the standards and the quality of life, but it also continues to support Limassol’s role as a wellness hub.

Limassol

George Tavelis is helping shape Limassol into a wellness destination. “Limassol Marina really put Limassol on the wellness map, cementing its place as a wellness destination. And now all the new developments in Limassol must live up to the expectations and standards that have been set here.”

A Wellness Community

According to George, the trend in today’s international wellness scene is for ‘wellness communities’ – something he believes is already built into the very fabric of Limassol. “In Limassol we are a whole wellness community on our own,” he laughs, adding that wellness is as much about healthy living as it is about networking. “There are a lot of different groups that people can join: yoga groups, meditation groups, winter swimmers, walking groups, biking groups.” But what really brought this community together was the Marina, which he describes as “the wellness network of Limassol”. The community is also thriving outside the Marina, thanks to an annual schedule of wellness focused events and activities designed to bring like-minded people together. Key events include the Limassol Marathon and the Global Wellness Weekend, which was first launched by George, as the Global Wellness Ambassador. Given that the new-build developments currently under construction in Limassol will have their own cutting-edge spas, wellness centres and fitness facilities, George believes people will choose to buy property or to start businesses here because of the facilities and infrastructure on offer. Crediting wellness as the catalyst for greater achievements and success, George is convinced that a healthy body leads to a clear, calm and alert mind, and a happier more relaxed attitude towards life. His advice for anyone looking to lead a more wellness focused lifestyle in Limassol? “Wellness applies to every aspect of life, not just physical exercise. Start slow, walk along the seafront every day, try to recycle, eat organic, sleep early, spend time with your family.”

Limassol has long been identified as an avid patron of the arts, but recent developments have elevated the city to its status as a beacon of culture in Cyprus. Georgia Doetzer of the Rialto Theatre reflects on Limassol’s transformation into a prime artistic juggernaut.

archaeological site of Curium is a timeless figurehead of Limassol’s cultural tradition. Its multitude of drama, music and opera performances are a reminder of the city’s rich heritage. As a matter of policy, Limassol imports international talent in order to expose local audiences to alternative ideas and concepts. “For example, at Rialto we host live broadcasts from iconic cultural centres such as New York’s Metropolitan Opera and London’s Royal Ballet and National Theatre. Rialto is also home to its very own World Music Festival, which takes place every year in July in the starlit Heroes Square.” Such activity demonstrates how Limassol opens a window to remarkable talent from countless ethnicities, thereby nurturing the city’s spirit of tolerance and acceptance.

Curtain Call

I

n the eyes of every culture enthusiast in Cyprus, Limassol reigns as an unrivalled crowd-pleaser. Over the past two decades the city has experienced an unprecedented explosion of artistic talent. The establishment of the Rialto Theatre in 1999 was a pivotal moment in this new phase in Limassol culture; it was also the moment that Georgia Doetzer embarked on the mission of a lifetime as Rialto Theatre’s Chief Executive. Since then, Limassol has earned its title as a leading cultural hub of the Mediterranean. Developments in the arts scene have made it the go-to address for exceptional performances in music, cinema, drama, dance and opera.

Georgia is part of a community of creatives that have witnessed first-hand how cultural activity has dramatically altered the face of Limassol. The location chosen for the Rialto Theatre was an abandoned Art Deco cinema in the historic Heroes Square, which in the late 1990’s was a visibly neglected neighbourhood of Limassol. “This was certainly not a desirable part of town back then; it had a reputation for red-light activity, so it took time to attract large audiences to the area,” says Georgia. Despite the obstacles, Georgia succeeded in guiding the evolution of

Rialto into a reputable symbol of Limassol’s cultural scene. Among its annual events are six festivals under government auspices: two festivals dedicated to dance, the Cyprus Film Days, an international short film festival, and the Cyprus Jazz and World Music Showcase. Without a doubt, Rialto has reignited the lost glory of the old town, and today the neighbourhood is a unique space of creativity and energy.

Standing Ovation

The success story of the old town is a reflection of the shift in Limassol’s cultural outlook. “In the past, concert performances in Cyprus were reserved for the summer months, and movie theatres had limited screenings during the week. But pioneering movements in leisure and entertainment have ushered in a vibrant cultural agenda all year round,” says Georgia. Today Limassol is peppered with venues hosting thought-provoking and imaginative performances for all tastes. The turn of the century heralded the creation of Limassol’s sculpture park, a feature of the promenade towards Limassol Marina. This collection of seventeen works stands as an important and eye-catching cultural space. The

The adventurous strand of Limassol’s DNA is demonstrated through the appearance of new venues of a more experimental nature. “It’s a cultural movement where the initiatives have a clear local character, but at the same time are distinctly outward-looking,” says Georgia. She admires the long-standing contribution of the Patticheio Municipal Theatre, as well additions by the younger generation. Many worthy initiatives by rising stars have emerged in recent years, such as the MITOS Centre of Performing Arts, Theatro Ena and Ethal Art Space. Limassol has come a long way and altered the cultural map of Cyprus, which traditionally had been monopolised by Nicosia. “Especially in the field of dance, our local talent has rocketed in innovative centres such as ‘Stegi’, with its avantgarde choreography,” says Georgia. The appeal of Limassol’s infrastructure plays a vital role in its high standing. “The facilities that have developed over the past twenty years and are now available to the visiting intellectual and creative are simply extraordinary. The long-stretched seafront is now the most desirable thoroughfare of the island; the marina is a bustling focal point; and the university has an inspiring presence in the historic centre,” says Georgia. The integration of foreign residents and investors into society has subjected Limassol’s art scene to a wider spectrum of influences. It is a city that thrives on its constant cultural dialogue, which has become ever more fruitful in the age of advanced technology. Georgia says: “Limassol’s evolution proves that culture is the invisible force stimulating every urban setting. Thanks to our international audience, this cosmopolitan vibe sparks fresh inspiration for every cultural newcomer.”

Limassol

Limassol is the cradle of Cyprus wine-making, and among its most reputable connoisseurs is Dr Andreas Emmanouil. He reveals how the blessed terrain of his home town is coupled with advanced craftsmanship, to form the ultimate pairing.

T

he foothills of Limassol’s wine region are a harmonious blend of history and innovation. A portfolio of award-winning wine labels tells the story of families that have transcended tradition and embraced modernisation in order for their craft to survive. These leading producers have repeatedly raised their glass to Andreas Emmanouil for his invaluable contribution to their profession. Throughout his career, Andreas has supported the wine-making community of Cyprus with his knowledge of oenology and viticulture. “The mountain villages hold remnants of ancient winemaking rituals. The mud-brick houses are where wine filled scores of clay pots,” he explains. The vine once defined the identity and daily activity of every Limassol farmer, and in the course of his career, Andreas has witnessed the transition of Cyprus wine-making from folk pastime to refined artisanship. As a Ministry of Agriculture officer and later professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, Andreas mapped out the way for wine producers to transform their humble acreage into commercial opportunity. “Our research, studies and training

provided them with the know-how required to cultivate extensive vineyards successfully,” says Andreas. “At the laboratory of viticulture we welcomed students who blossomed into today’s leading winery owners,” he says.

Roots and Reign

Limassol’s wine-making practice is a deep-rooted tradition of ancient origin. It was the work of acclaimed archaeologist Maria Rosaria Belgiorno that confirmed Limassol’s grand alliance with wine. Her excavations revealed vessels dating back to 3000 BC that contained traces of wine composition. Limassol holds a protected designation of origin for its Commandaria region, a name given to the fusion of the indigenous mavro and xynisteri grape to create a premium dessert wine. “The Krasochoria (wine villages) are often labelled the island’s ‘green heart’, but I would say Limassol’s heart is ruby red with all this Commandaria,’ says Andreas. In ancient times, the concoction was referred to as ‘Nama’ until the island’s conquest by the Knights’ Templar in the 12th century. Richard the Lionheart ruled the region of ‘La Grande Commandarie’ and the wine’s label was

Authentic Aromas

Alongside this rich history, Limassol is the home of some of the island’s finest labels. Andreas has witnessed the emergence of sophisticated wineries graced with modern processes and supported by the very best external consultants. Indeed, Limassol now boasts a line-up of impressive boutique wineries that strictly cultivate their own vines and produce limited bottles with beautifully designed labels. “Just outside Limassol, Hadjiantonas has a great assortment of wines. Towards Platres, the wineries of Vlassides and Tsiakkas are symbols of constant innovation. Argyrides in Vasa village is another pioneer in the field; they have harmoniously integrated novel approaches while maintaining the character of their traditional family home,” says Andreas. Ayia Mavri in Koilani has earned international recognition after its muscat of Alexandria won accolades at several ‘Muscats du Monde’ conventions. Each label carries its own

story of struggle and dedication, which has been redeemed with success.

Through the Grapevine

This portfolio of wine excellence has become a national treasure, and wine enthusiasts can follow the Cyprus Tourism Organisation’s maps and guides to discover – and taste – its wealth. September’s annual wine festival is a ten-day extravaganza where the mountain producers congregate in the centre of Limassol to celebrate their harvest. Andreas was pivotal in the launch of Wine Month, a November highlight that sees wineries opening their doors on weekends, hosting wine tastings and seminars for the public to explore. Wine lovers can go one step further and experience Andreas’s work within the Cyprus Oenophile Club. Since 1998 it has been disseminating information regarding the production and evaluation of wine, as well as informing audiences on wine tasting techniques and food pairings. In 2016 the club launched its ‘Wine Connoisseur’ programme which offers contestants a certified learning experience of training and assessment related to sommelier skills. This community of wine experts gave rise to

the Cyprus Sommeliers’ Association in 2014, with Andreas as its Honorary President. “It is a wonderful forum for every discerning wine professional, offering a stepping stone to the international stage. I have had the privilege of training award-winning sommeliers that have represented Cyprus in high-profile competitions,” says Andreas.

The Grape Escape

Limassol’s wine legacy has no bounds, and yet there are future goals awaiting completion. Great efforts are being made to have the Commandaria region listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Through his work as an international wine judge, Andreas monitors the latest trends that are putting Cyprus wines in the spotlight. “Today’s patrons of wine wish to explore the indigenous grape varieties of each country,” says Andreas. “Thankfully, our local producers have made a conscious shift towards their native crop.” Old varieties of white grape such as morokanella, spourtiko and promara are being rediscovered, and the cultivation of yiannoudi and vamvakada are further enriching our experience of Cyprus reds. This age-old practice is in full bloom, and from the dining table to the winery, fresh bouquets of aroma are waiting to be savoured.

Limassol

U

nlike a great deal of her fellow island inhabitants, Limassol Tourism Board’s manager Maria Stylianou Michaelidou regularly parks her car far from her office and deliberately walks the extra 15 minutes to work – not only for the “absolute pleasure of walking,” but also as part of a huge personal effort to minimise the footprint she leaves on the planet. You see, Maria doesn’t just talk the talk; she also walks the walk as a committed campaigner for greener and more sustainable living in Limassol. And while her job includes spearheading the plethora of innovative green mobility initiatives currently being rolled out across town, Maria also does her best as a mother and citizen to apply and promote environmental protection practices to every aspect of her own life.

Sustainable Living by the Sea

Although she credits her sustainable conscience to years spent abroad, Maria is a firm believer that people living – or striving for – a more sustainable lifestyle, can easily do so in Limassol. The city’s trajectory towards urban sustainability is further boosted by a stunning urban coastal landscape and beautiful year-round weather that is perfect for spending time outdoors. Citing her own sustainable interaction with the city as an example, the Nicosia-born and Limassolraised environmentalist talks with passion about making the most of the growing infrastructure, by cycling and hiking in and around Limassol with her family.

OnBoard | 75

Moving towards a greener future, Limassol is emerging as the centre of sustainability in Cyprus. And at the helm of the innovation is Maria Stylianou Michaelidou, a passionate eco-warrior, committed to furthering the city’s green credentials.

“In Limassol there are a lot of opportunities to spend quality time doing something fun, interesting and interactive as a family, group of friends or colleagues – without compromising sustainability. We have a beautiful coastline with its own wonderful seaside cycling and walking path, which thousands of people use every day,” she points out, adding that the city also hosts a packed schedule of events and activities encouraging people to live a better and greener life.

convenient, comfortable, cost effective solutions. You save time because you don’t have to tackle traffic, you save money, you reduce stress, and you enrich your experience.”

The wealth of green mobility initiatives – which Maria is instrumental in setting up across the city and surrounding areas – are making sustainable living much easier, while simultaneously adding value to the Limassol experience and helping to bring about a better quality of life for everyone in the city.

“Sustainable travel is an international trend that tourists increasingly demand; but Limassol residents themselves are also embracing the trend and welcoming the positive side effects, as readily available sustainable solutions result in less traffic, less noise, fresher air and less stress. We have seen that especially the younger generations are keen to change their ways and make a difference.”

Aimed at encouraging tourists and locals to walk, cycle or use public transport, these initiatives include the introduction of the first ever telematics system in Cyprus on bus routes in Limassol, the debut of a tourist mobility card, the expansion of the bike sharing and electric car networks, and the creation of dedicated hiking and walking routes in the town centre and outskirts, complete with information about noteworthy landmarks along the way. “We are trying to find ways to get people to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, but instead of doing it by car, to be outside walking or on a bicycle,” she says. “And Limassol now provides

Taking a Contemporary Approach

The Limassol public’s engagement with these initiatives has been impressive, leading to a significant increase in the number of people eager to adjust to greener living.

While significant strides have already been made in the effort to pave the way towards greener living in Limassol, there is still a way to go. The plan is to bring the city in line with modern, forward-thinking sustainable cities across Europe. Although the initiatives already in place are helping to further the goal, there are many more exciting ideas and projects in the works, whose implementation will reinforce the city’s reputation as the hub of urban green living in Cyprus. This year, Maria and her team are debuting a Green Label award scheme for hotels that meet specific green criteria and go the extra green

mile to offer sustainability solutions and services. Limassol Marina is also on track for further sustainable improvements. The area already enjoys better air quality thanks to the exclusive use of electric vehicles, and plans are under way to expand the coastal cycling and walking path to connect the Marina with the new port. “The quality of life that Limassol can offer appeals to both foreigners and locals, but we believe that we can make this even better in the future through sustainable solutions,” she explains. Looking to the future, Maria dreams of a pedestrianised Limassol where there are fewer cars, cleaner air and an even better quality of life; where car lanes and parking areas are replaced by more trees, green areas, bicycle lanes, walking areas and free public space. “Limassol is open to change in this direction, and there is growing interest. We already work with many business owners who are ready, willing and able to invest in a greener Limassol, for residents and visitors to enjoy.”

INVESTING IN THE FUTURE The gateway to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Cyprus is an EU and eurozone member with a flourishing economy. With its soaring tourist arrivals and record number of foreign investors, this is a nation which is seizing the future, with Limassol leading the way.

Cyprus

S

o often, Cyprus is epitomised by sun, sea and sand. But this is a country that’s so much more than golden beaches and 340 days of sunshine each year. While Cyprus has always been rich in terms of its natural resources — even the name of the island derives from the ancient word for copper — it is the country’s ideal location, hospitable people and singular work/life balance which are now making it one of the most desirable business destinations not just in the region, but the world. “There are just so many benefits to living and working in Cyprus. It’s safe, there’s a high quality of life, and it’s perfectly located for business people from diverse nations to come together and cooperate,” reveals Kristina Ernst, the co-founder and director of CountryProfiler, an international company which publishes the annual Cyprus Country Report and CyprusProfile.com, a portal for the country. Originally from Canada, Kristina lived in more than 10 different countries (including Japan, South Africa and Switzerland) before moving to Cyprus in 2004. She now works closely with the island’s ministries, government agencies, associations and leading companies to provide essential insights for companies interested in doing business or investing in Cyprus. “Living in Cyprus, you benefit from a singular work/life balance,” she explains. “The island delivers an entirely unique combination of factors, blending an excellent climate with the seaside lifestyle that’s so attractive to those of us from colder countries! Where else in the world could you drive five minutes to work, break for lunch by the sea, and still have hours of leisure time?”

Key to Success

Classified by the World Bank as a high-income country and consistently ranking among the top five eurozone performers, Cyprus may have had its fair share of turmoil over the years, but has always emerged ever stronger as a result. Today, company structuring, tax planning, fund management and administration,

foreign exchange trading, and trusts are all strongly established segments of the island’s business sector, due to Cyprus’ attractive fiscal regime, network of double tax treaties with over 60 countries around the world, and a legal system based on English Common Law. At the same time, the Cyprus Investment Programme – in which non-Cypriot citizens may apply for Cypriot citizenship – is attracting unprecedented direct foreign investment, while both the maritime sector (a mainstay of the local economy, with one of the top merchant fleets in the world, and a gross tonnage in excess of 22 million) and the real estate industry (Cyprus boasts one of the highest rates in Europe of second home and holiday home owners) are booming.

Citizen of the World

“When I first came to the island, the main focus was on Cyprus as a business and financial centre,” explains Kristina. “This focus has remained, but over the years we’ve seen more diversification. There’s been growth in many other sectors too, such as higher education, while the tourist industry has expanded to include off-peak, wellness, sports, religious and wedding tourism, and has brought in record revenue and numbers of visitors over the last few years.” Kristina’s observations are based on facts and figures: In the last 15 years, the number of foreign students has increased from about 400 to 21.000, and the number of destination weddings booked in Cyprus are upwards of 8000 per year. Many of these visitors hail from the UK — long a key trading partner — while Chinese investment in the real estate market is growing annually. Then there’s Russia, which has enjoyed a strong relationship with the island over the last 50 years. As the island’s second largest tourist market, Russia also enjoys a shared cultural heritage: Limassol is home to more than 10.000 permanent residents from the country and boasts a thriving community, complete with its own Russian newspapers, radio stations and schools.

the hospitality sector. Limassol is definitely the most cosmopolitan city in Cyprus. In fact, if you’re sitting at Limassol Marina you’ll probably hear more accents than you would in the centre of London.” Limassol’s multi-billion integrated luxury casino resort, the largest of its kind in Europe, is set to open in 2021, and “will boost year-round tourism by an estimated 300,000 visitors per year,” Kristina divulges. “It’s also expected to boost conference tourism by providing a venue for larger gatherings in Limassol. Although the city already has a good supply of hotels, this much larger venue is ideal.”

Kristina pinpoints two key growth sectors. The first is Energy, as the recently discovered gas reserves have led to cooperation with industry giants, and the second is Investment Funds. Raising the Bar

Limassol and Paphos are consistently the preferred districts among these foreign buyers, accounting for around 70 per cent of foreign transactions, Kristina suggests. But, as a thriving business centre and international shipping hub, it’s Limassol, she acknowledges, which is experiencing the most dramatic expansion. “The region in which

we’re seeing the biggest growth is definitely Limassol. Both a business and tourist centre, it’s a city on the rise. There has been an increase in foreign investment, particularly in the tourism sector, and an influx of companies from across the world setting up here. This has led to more demand for high-end property, office space, and auxiliary business services, and has also benefited

Meanwhile, Limassol Marina, which offers berthing for 650 yachts and superyachts, and a host of luxury property developments, has breathed new life into the local economy. Add to this a number of luxury golf course projects and continuing improvements to the island’s already successful health and wellness industry, and you have a nation experiencing remarkable growth.

Future Perfect

Kristina pinpoints two key growth sectors. The first is Energy, as the recently discovered gas reserves have led to cooperation with industry giants such as Total, ExxonMobil, ENI, and Royal Dutch Shell. The second is Investment Funds, with Assets under Management having tripled since 2012 and passed the €6 billion mark at the end of 2018. Also worth noting is the island’s potential as a headquartering destination. “Cyprus is already a hub for international business and shipping, and the same could develop for companies servicing the oil and gas sector operating in the eastern Mediterranean region. And with recently introduced incentives for expatriates and high net worth individuals, there has been even more interest from international companies across all sectors to ceate a base on the island.” With one of the fastest growing economies in the EU, a healthy GDP growth rate of approximately four per cent and interest from foreign investors increasing year-on-year, “the island continues to attract both international business and affluent individuals seeking an ideal Mediterranean lifestyle. This really is an island which makes doing business pleasurable as well as profitable.”

BY ROYAL DECREE

Champagne from Maison Ruinart, the oldest Champagne house in France, takes centre stage at La Maison du Vin’s exclusive wine cellar.

W

ithin the regal collections that occupy La Maison du Vin in Limassol, the flagship of the store is the eminent Ruinart Champagne. As the finest Champagne in France, Ruinart was coveted by the great lovers Napoleon and Josephine and with the audacity that ruled the court, Ruinart Champagne was ordered to fill the cellars. With that same tenacity, the bill was not paid when the Emperor divorced his distinguished but expensive lady. But Maison de Ruinart still thrived despite the actions of spurned royalty. Ruinart was the inspiration of visionary monk Dom Thierry Ruinart who frequented court and became infatuated with a new “wine with bubbles”. In 1729, Nicolas Ruinart, Dom Ruinart’s favoured nephew, founded the first Champagne House and started exporting due to the 1728 Louis XV Royal Decree allowing baskets of up to 100 bottles of sparkling wine to be shipped. Success was preordained and the

Blanc de Blancs, Rose, “R” de Ruinart and eloquent vintages of Dom Ruinart now prevail upon distinguished wine drinkers to taste their delicate aromas and rich freshness.

Of Noble Stock

Alongside the elegant bottles of bubbly stand other celebrated names in the world of wine: Angelo Gaja and La Scolca from Italy, Louis Jadot and Guigal from France and Penfolds from Australia. And the curator of this fine collection is a man who has his own celebrated connections, Victor Papadopoulos. As the recipient of Ordre National du Mérite and Officier de l’Ordre du Mérite Agricole from France, and with the title of the Cavaliere Dell’Ordine al Merito Della Repuplica Italiana, Victor is also Chevalier de la Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin and President of La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs for Cyprus, the oldest Gastronomique Union, founded by King Louis le Saint in 1248.

Stately Service

“I have made my hobby my business,” says Victor, who started La Maison du Vin 20 years ago and still hand-picks each wine. He bids a warm welcome to all and will help select wines, Maxim’s Paris chocolates and even Eurocave cabinets for careful storage. Gift baskets and tailored packages are personalised for the perfect presentation, and events can be organised by La Maison du Vin with all wines specifically chosen to suit.
