ASTM standards, and Blend Colours being a well-accepted brand by the global markets, the UHT masterbatch will help processors with its significant value proposition.

This PE carrier resin comes with 40%±1% carbon content, no filler, excellent dispersion with heat stability at 280 - 300°C; well-suited for preservation of UHT processed milk with an unrefrigerated life of 6 - 9 months.

It is used with LLDPE, tie-layer as the second inner layer. Most suitable for 5-layer / 7-layer products, the barrier properties of this product contribute to a higher shelf-life.

No gel formation, suitability to be used on high-speed filling lines, high barrier properties and filterability, high opacity at less dosage and being recyclable are attributes that are fundamental to this product.

“With global markets to be the early adopters, we have made sure that the testing and certifications are done keeping in mind the requirements of perhaps the most stringent markets,” shares Shailesh Lahoti, Director, Blend Colours Pvt. Ltd., and responsible for the company’s export business.

Kandui Develops Thermochromic Masterbatches for Reversible Colour Changing Properties

Kandui Industries Pvt. Ltd. (KIPL) has developed the thermochromic masterbatch, a kind of additive masterbatch which brings reversible colour changing properties to the fibre or moulded items.

These masterbatches have an activation temperature. The end product becomes fully coloured below the activation temperature and colourless above the activation temperature.

This property is utilised in the secret coding of fabrics and other moulding items, adding a security feature to the original branding. It is also extensively used in children’s toys such as bottles and ice-cube storage containers, wherein the toy will change colour if refrigerated.

American Chemistry Council Awards Solvay-partner for Indian Sustainable Guar Initiative

Solvay’s partner in the Sustainable Guar Initiative, non-profit organisation TechnoServe, has received the External Collaborator Award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC), for its commitment to working collaboratively with ACC members and others throughout the guar supply chain to drive sustainability and innovation.

The Sustainable Guar Initiative is an integrated programme implemented by Solvay and its partners in collaboration with TechnoServe to teach and promote sustainable agricultural practices, and encourage women empowerment among guar bean farmers within the Bikaner desert district in Rajasthan, India. This is an exemplary model for inclusive business and accelerates our Solvay One Planet commitment under our Better Life pillar.

The Sustainable Guar Initiative was initially set up in 2015 by Solvay, L’Oréal, TechnoServe and Hichem, a Solvay joint venture and guar manufacturer, with Henkel joining the partnership in 2017 which increased the number of Indian farmers involved in the project to over 7,300 in 2020, 25 per cent of whom are women.

“We are pleased that TechnoServe has been recognised for their inestimable contribution to the success of our Sustainable Guar Initiative by offering strong local expertise, onthe-ground involvement and market analysis,” says Anne-Charlotte Butrot, Sustainability Project Manager at Solvay. “TechnoServe has been the enabling partner for Solvay and its international collaborators providing farmers training for land and seed treatment, improving crop cultivation for arid conditions, soil replenishment techniques and rainwater harvesting systems to enhance crop yields,” she adds.

Solvay is a world leader in guar derivatives and India provides about 80 per cent of the world’s total guar production, where farmers play an integral role at the top of the supply chain.

“Assisting Solvay and their partners to bring to fruition this commendable initiative to transform the lives of guar bean farmers in poor communities has been a very rewarding experience,” says Punit Gupta, Country Director, TechnoServe India.
