2025 Spring Arts Festival
2025 Spring Arts Festival
Thursday, April 24
7:00 PM | Memorial Chapel
I love how spring brings a sense of possibility—a shift in the air that reminds us that change is constant. The trees now budding with small, tender leaves make the world feel like it’s waking up after a long rest. Spring feels like an invitation for renewal, to stretch out from the winter’s quiet reflection, welcoming you to be more vibrant, more alive.
There’s something hopeful about spring, a rhythm in the season, a reminder that things evolve, grow, and shift. The changes are slow and subtle, but always there, building toward something beautiful.
Tonight, I invite you to recognize and celebrate our students; their growth from winter to spring is apparent and brings so much joy. Join me as I bask in the wondrous tones and sounds of our vocal groups and welcome the energy of spring.

We all understand from our own life experiences the power that music has to bring us together, but to me, there’s an extra degree of communion when it’s vocal music. An audience watches orchestras and bands alike wield their instruments, making sounds and motions exotic to the non-instrumentalist. But with vocal music, two groups of people sit across from each other, holding the same tools, and making an array of sounds anyone can relate to on some level.
The tones, however refined by the singer, are still coming from the same places of our own laughs, cries, conversations, and hollers. No matter who you are, you have sung along to something in your life. A favorite song, a TV commercial, a tune in your head—so you’ve all accessed and experienced this internally before. Tonight, as you’re listening, I urge you to think about that connection to the music. Search for the new sounds, hum along to ones you know, and enjoy the shared experience of the voice!
