The Blue Accelerator test platform offers a broad range of possibilities to develop and test new ‘Blue Energy’ products and technologies in real life sea conditions.

A living lab with a multitude of test facilities The ‘Blue Accelerator’ test platform consists of a broad range of sensors, measurement equipment and telecommunication systems in a living lab setting. The platform allows testing in different marine and maritime research and innovation domains, such as: • wave energy conversion • corrosion • abrasion and erosion • offshore application of aerial and submarine drones • marine growth • meteorological measurements using both masts and buoys

An open platform to accelerate innovation As a company, organisation or knowledge institution, • you can obtain quick access to the platform • you use a simplified fast-track permit procedure detailing clear user requirements. • the proximity of a port offers you various options to reach the platform. • you get personalised support and advice on financing opportunities. • you get access to a network of Belgian and international experts from leading companies and research institutions.

The boat landing allows easy access to the platform using small boats.

The test platform is located in the North Sea, 500 meters of the east harbour wall of the Port of Oostende.

Blue Accelerator is a maritime innovation and development platform allowing companies, organisations and knowledge institutions to organise a broad range of offshore tests.

Ostend Science Park Gateway to a rapidly growing Blue Energy cluster The ‘Blue Accelerator’ is part of a network of test facilities focussing on ‘Blue Energy’ in the area of the Ostend Science Park. The Flanders government, in collaboration with the KU Leuven and the Ghent University, is building a new maritime research centre consisting of a coastal and ocean wave basin and a towing tank to study the effects of waves, tides and wind on ships and maritime structures. You will have access to an extensive ‘Blue Growth’ network including organisations like: • Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) • The ‘Blue Cluster’ • Belgian Offshore Cluster • Bluebridge – incubator and innovation center • Flanders Maritime Laboratory
