_Project Type: Hospitality _Position: Intern

Design Brief: _To create a series of apartments, aparthotels,a hotel along with public and private amenities. _To create the environment of ‘Garden Eden’ and extend the beach boundary for attracting more tourists. The concept for built mass was to be spread across the topography of the given site and be well integrated with the existing natural elements.

Variations of the activities that would be included in the masterplanning

Apart from the hotel amenities, there are various public amenities provided across the masterplan. These include snorkeling, cycling,spa and the garden eden would also include parks for activities. The masterplan will also have a lake within the ‘garden eden’ and waterfalls at different scales across the site.

Cross-section across the hill villas The design concept for the aparthotel was to integrate the blocks with the existing topographical nature of Puertito and include roof top gardens, pools and pathways. The villas were designed keeping in mind the views for each block towards the garden eden of the site.

Design Brief: _The main concept for the master plan is to create a sustainable place to live surrounded by the agriculture areas, water canals and green zones. _The close agriculture area is the place of education and ecological way of life for the families and gives life to the zone through the proposed "Biopark" on the east side of the area.

The central part of the area is the commercial center with the symbol - "Double towers" that defines the northern side. The commercial center with its green terraces extends toward the south and the volume crosses the main road as a building - bridge that give use to the culture. On the southern point of the area there is a hotel with the congress center. On the western and eastern limits of the area there is a residential condominium with high rise towers.The rest of the zones are dedicated to the culture and connects facilities. UZO is an all day bar and dining space tucked under a banquet hall in Worli. It’s alfresco seating and indoor bar are designed to easily transform from being a cafe in the day to an evening lounge. Lush tropical landscaping gives the outdoor area an intimate verandah like spatial quality while cushioning it from the busy dusty Annie Besant road.

D _ _ Custom made hanging light fixtures are used over a variety of seating clusters to enhance the informal atmosphere and provide mood lighting. Attention to design and detailing in the space decor is reflected in the furniture design. Seating patterns vary from exposed concrete benches to round high tables and carved intimate booths which allow for flexible usage.

Pot Pourri in Vashi is an all day Restaurant and bar. It creates a retro and pop atmosphere with interesting elements on the wall. With Custom made led typographic light fittings,the space has a lively envirionment in the evening.The use of colors on some of the furniture pieces and walls makes the restaurant environment more young and inviting.

Complete built mass stacked in the middle of the site

The orientation of the building is a result of the climatic analysis of the site while taking advantage of the existing nature of the site’s topography. The parallel walls are oriented in a northwest southeast directions, perpendicular to the existing slopes prevalent on site

The building is an amalgamation of many slices of varying scales of spaces. The private zones have been placed in the middle and while the larger public functions flank the South and North of the complex.

This is in alignment with the direction of the pleasant summer breeze coming from the North-Northwest. While in the harsh winter months ,the cold winds blow from the South and Southwest.

Approaching from the Southern end of the site, facing the Buddha caves,landscape walls and varying levels of roof-scapes are visible.


COMPETITION _Project Name: Bamiyan Cultural Centre _Site: Afghanistan Team: Ipsit Patel, Rika Chaudhry, Pooja Katara Jaynish Shah, Shruti Gaonkar, and Nirupama Vishwanathan

The architecture wishes to celebrate life in Bamiyan and while respecting the loss of the Buddhas. The building acts as a backdrop to all the colourful cultural activities that will take place on site. The majestic views of the lost Buddhas are mesmerising and humbling. Therefore the first instinct was to not obstruct the view in any way and to make and building invisible as you approach the centre. The building is hence perceived as a series of landscape walls and terraces, as one approaches the cultural centre from the southern- higher end of the site. The approach from the pedestrian access that is through the market street is of human scale, where proposed programs could take place in a weekly manner. Thus bringing life and colour to the site while adding very little to the built mass.

Section across the classrooms, the courtyard and the conference room Vernacular building materials and technologies are to be utilized to achieve an architectural integrity, and to gain a harmonious relationship between the natural and surrounding built environment. The main built mass consists of thick mud baked brick walls with stucco plaster and flat concrete slabs that house green and dry terraces, skylights and solar panels.

The skylights within the slabs and atop the double brick walls, are made of glass blocks that let in difused light. Openings consist of wooden louvers that can regulate the amount of light and air within the spaces, with minimal use of double glazed glass to control the temperature within the spaces.

Calle Castillo, a street in Santa Cruz since the seventeenth century always contained with a lively crowd movement, excitement and the passion for purchase, houses the ‘Circulo De Bellas Artes’, a space exhibiting “Art for free”.The true colors and the banners that catch the eye of the pedestrians take away from this humble space and it been rather unnoticed.Most times during movement, what we forget to give importance to is the stillness and this space is that important part of the street.

La Laguna celebra su tradicional festival coral

Light experiments through the plastic bags were made to check the intensity of this ‘Lit plastic Facade’ on the street of Calle Castillo

The design aims to reflect the nature of the street that this ‘lost building’ of art is situated in. The plastic waste used to fill the plastic bags collected from this commercial street’ is a gesture to inform people the existance and importance of this building and the use of pop colours invites the pedestrians.

El Encuentro Coral Ciudad de La Laguna alcanza este año su trigésimo sexta edición consolidado como una de las convocatorias musicales más significativas y referentes del calendario cultural en Tenerife. Este festival está organizado por el Organismo Autónomo de Actividades Musicales (OAAM) de La Laguna y, como en años anteriores, contará con la colaboración del Obispado y el Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias. La primera cita tendrá lugar el 6 de diciembre con la actuación del Coro Juvenil de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria en el Convento de Santo Domingo. Este mismo espacio acoge el día 9 al Coro Carpe Diem y un día después al Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna. El jueves 11 tendrán lugar dos conciertos: en el Ateneo actuará Espacio Global, mientras que en el Convento lo hará la Coral Universitaria. Uno de los platos fuertes del programa llega el viernes, día 12, en el Teatro Leal, con el concierto que ofrecerán varias corales: Coral Universitaria, Coral Polifónica Casa de Venezuela en Canarias, Coro Polifónico de la Universidad de La Laguna y Coral Virgen de la Encarnación de Tejina. La entrada es gratuita hasta completar el aforo. El sábado 13, la Camerata Lacunensis actuará en el Convento de Santo Domingo. Y el domingo 14, en la Concepción, tendrá lugar el Encuentro Coral, con la participación de al menos diez agrupaciones vocales de toda la Isla.

El Círculo de Bellas Artes modernizará su fachada La entidad cultural resuelve mediante un concurso de ideas el cambio de la imagen exterior de su sede de la calle Castillo Diario de Avisos Santa Cruz de Tenerife

La sede del Círculo de Bellas Artes, en la santacrucera calle de Castillo, renovará próximamente su fachada, mediante “una intervención valiente” y que a buen seguro “llamará la atención de los paseantes”. Así lo entienden los miembros del jurado del concurso convocado por la entidad cultural para este fin, y cuyo ganador ha sido la propuesta planteada por tres jóvenes artistas (Quentin Charial, Swati Seshadri y Pooja Katara) bajo el título The Art of Stillness. La inauguración de la acción está prevista para el 10 de diciembre, coincidiendo con la apertura de una nueva edición

del Mercado de Arte que el Círculo celebra cada Navidad. Los ganadores recibirán un premio en metálico de 500 euros. En total concurrieron a la convocatoria nueve propuestas. El jurado del concurso estuvo formado por los responsables de arquitectura (Arsenio Pérez Amaral), artes escénicas (Carlos Belda y Helena Romero) y diseño (José Jiménez Valladares) de la nueva junta directiva de la entidad cultural, así como por su presidenta, Dulce Xerach Pérez. Consideran que la actual fachada se encuentra “obsoleta, oscura y no despierta la curiosidad de los numerosos paseantes de la zona”, y con esta medida pretenden que se transforme en un “escaparate luminoso del arte y

la cultura del interior del edificio y refleje su contemporaneidad”. Los miembros del jurado han traslado a los responsables de la idea ganadora la necesidad de realizar algunas modificaciones en el diseño elegido para hacer posible su plena integración en el entorno. Sobre todo, en materia de accesibilidad, tanto al cajero automático anexo como al Mercado del Arte de Navidad, “que no haya ninguna duda de que dentro ocurre algo, algo importante; la intervención tiene que ser un reclamo”, aseguran. También por concretar está “el material a utilizar para la iluminación, los colores de esta, la estrategia durante el día, el color y la limpieza y relleno de las bolsas”, indican.

Raphael traerá al Auditorio su gira ‘Amor & Desamor’ Diario de Avisos Santa Cruz de Tenerife

El cantante Raphael actuará el próximo el próximo 1 de febrero en el Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín, presentando su gira Amor & Desamor. Un día antes estará en el Gran Canaria Arena.
