Editor's Message What's up key club! My name is Lucia and it is with great honor that I am able to serve the illustrious HSMSE Key Club for the 2020-2021 service year. It's definitely been a rough couple of months and I wish there was more we could do to support our community and world during this pandemic. But I'm proud of our club for trying to stay positive and doing what they can to help our community despite the obvious adjustments we've had to make. The school year is coming to an end very soon, and I hope everyone can have a restful and fulfilling summer. - Lucia Corte

National Pajama Walk May 2nd, 2020
12
Written by Brianna Nee The National Pajama Walk raises awareness and funds for children in need to maintain a comfortable bedtime routine. Our club was able to participate from our own homes by taking pictures of us "walking" to raise awareness about this organization. It really allowed us to be creative! The National Pajama Walk made me realize that a bedtime routine can be difficult for those in need to achieve. A comforting routine before bed can help kids get better sleep and allows people to destress. In addition, reading to children before bed can help with literacy and personally, it helped me develop a a love of reading. I am so glad our club could participate in this event to raise awareness for this cause and everything it's doing for children. The Pajama "Walk" allowed other members and me to be creative because the event was so easy. Some of us took walks on our roofs, others walked around the house, and I walked up and down the stairs. Despite all these different methods, we were all brought together, virtually, through the goal of helping children

Share Community Care Xuang Jin Events Head In this event, signs displaying positive messages were collected from everyone and sent to the Share Community Care organizers. The signs were then compiled with other videos and signs and the completed video was sent to elders, frontline staff, and hospital patients.
The event allowed us to reflect on the situation that we are in right now, it made me realize how lucky some of us are to be safe at home with our families while others aren't as fortunate or are risking their healths to provide care for the ill. It also gave us a sense of community, knowing that we are all here to encourage and strengthen one another.

WRITE A SOLDIER 16
May 1 5 t h , 2 0 2 0
Dear Soldier, first off, thank you for all that you have done for the country, it must be hard to be away from your family for a long time, but please just know that because of all the hard work that you've put in for us, you are able to protect and improve this country. I know that with everything going on right now with the Coronavirus, it must be extra hard, we all appreciate and support you. Again, thank you for everything that you've done. Stay safe and I wish you the best. - Xuang Jin
Dear soldier, I don't know your name or where you are right now but I wish I could be there with you just to give you a hug to thank you on behalf of the whole country for your military work. You and your fellow soldiers keep America safe and make the whole world a better place. You are special people with unparalleled compassion and drive. I think you're super cool and you're pretty much a superhero. - Arden Levin
Dear Soldier, Thank you so much for your dedication to keeping our nation safe. You are so beyond brave and that bravery is what allows us to live our lives knowing we'll be protected. I'm a dancer, and I wouldn't be able to dance freely if I were scared for my life, so you are the reason I can do the things I love. And there is no way I could possibly thank you enough for that. - Oriana Parsa
Dear Soldier, thank you for your service especially in these uncertain times. Your hard work and service does not go unnoticed. I appreciate your dedication to serve, fight and risk your life for your country. I know it must be hard to be away from your family especially with the coronavirus and everything that is going on, but I am rooting for you and I know we can overcome these tough times! I am sending hipe and good fortune your way, and wish you all the best! - Jocelyn Widjaja
Dear Soldier, thank you so much for serving our country. Your hard work and bravery are appreciated every single day even if it may not feel that way sometimes. Me along with many, many others support you and wish you a safe return and happy life. And with all the uncertainty that's going on in the world right now, one thing has definitely remained constant. You are a hero and nothing will change that. - Polina Mosharova
During the covid-19 crisis, we've stayed at home and continued to spread our support to the community. We sent out letters to soldiers currently serving our country to show how much we cared.

NAMI WALKS Brianna Nee President
May is mental health month where we recognize the mental health struggles of people across the world and bring awareness to the importance our emotional health in our daily lives. NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness and aims to better the lives of people with mental illness. Mental illness can many times go unseen and undetected and is ridiculed by many. However, organizations like NAMI bring awareness to the severity of mental

dedicated itself to treating an illness that millions battle every year. Personally, I have witnessed the stigma against mental illness, reducing the struggles of millions into a simple “just be happy, but sadly, for many, this is not possible. It is possible to work toward helping those with mental illness by recognizing their battle as legitimate and working with organizations such as NAMI. Although May is mental health month, it is important to encourage actions toward better mental health and be aware of these prevalent issues year-round.
