CATHYDEBUONO
I’m not opposed to playing characters that aren’t gay, but I do think I prefer to play gay roles. I like telling our stories and playing our characters and giving them life, their say. I’m not actively opposed to seeking out straight things at all, I just find myself swimming around in the gay niche of the market and I love it there. Cathy DeBuono
Cathy DeBuono Actor
Cathy DeBuono is a rare actress in Hollywood. While many actresses remain in the closet, or at least “guarded” about their personal lives, she is not only out and proud, but is actively seeking out lesbian roles. The daughter of a New York cop, Cathy was a gifted natural athlete and a heavily recruited volleyball player. She attended the University of Kentucky on a full athletic scholarship, and was in training for the US Olympic team when a knee injury ended her career. While in college, Cathy met Ashley Judd who cast her in a school play and encouraged Cathy to pursue acting – which she did, with gusto. She graduated from the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City in 1994. Since then, she’s been seen frequently on film, including this year’s popular lesbian feature And Then Came Lola,
2
and the recent film Out at the Wedding. She’s also had recurring roles on television shows like Chicago Hope and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Her most recent project, We Have To Stop Now is a romantic comedy in which Cathy plays a therapist who is in therapy herself. After a successful first season, season two is now in development with a world wide distribution deal in place with Wolfe Releasing. A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Cathy earned her Master's degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in 2003. She’s parlayed her clinical and professional experience into the video blog What's YOUR Problem?, nominated for a LOGO Television NEW NOW NEXT AWARD in 2007, in which Cathy addresses concerns submitted by her viewers. She also hosts SheWired’s The Gloves Are Off with Jill Bennett, her long time artistic collaborator and partner.

Lesbians and bisexual women have been fond of Ashley Judd ever since she kissed Salma Hayek in Frida, but now we have another reason to like her: She's the one who encouraged Out at the Wedding's Cathy DeBuono to become an actor. This fall DeBuono is part of the new comedy series Exes & Ohs that premieres on Logo (AfterEllen.com's parent company) on Oct. 8. But let's get back to Ashley Judd. DeBuono played volleyball for the

FAN ENGAGEMENT
--------------Cathy’s fan base, who now call themselves the “CDB Crew,” is an active, vibrant, core community of fans who visit her site regularly.
Dear Cathy We, of the CDB Crew, feel so profoundly changed by this past weekend that we had to express ourselves. Most would say we have been expressing ourselves all over the place. And you know what? We have. In the past 72 hours we have created a haven of hope, love, and creativity that seems to have no bounds at all. And we have founded this little corner of the world because of you. Because of your courage, your charisma, your talent, but most of because of your hearts. The Lesbionic Network began in the CDB chat room on Friday as a conversation piece. Something to pass the time as we waited for the two of you to go LIVE! And in a flash of lightning and a chug of Red Bull it became a monster of epic proportions. We weren't sure if the CDB Network would continue after Dinah, so we wanted to create a place to go and carry the torch, so to speak. Just in case. In three days we have met, fell in love, made lifelong friends, supported young gals in coming out, compared scars and war stories, cried, shared recipes, created a Cindy-NoPants drinking game, fell in love some more, cried some more, faced hate and become better for it, came to the conclusion that Lucia and Robyn ROCK, suffered from serious sleep deprivation, sang, danced like there was no tomorrow, ate, drank, and laughed. My God, how we have laughed! And as we mingled around in our differing altered states we realized that what we were doing was pretty friggin cool. And for y'all to inspire this in us, well, that just made you a legend. All of you. Cathy, our fearless leader. Jill, the heart of our little family. Lucia, the rock star (you need your own fanclub!). Robyn, with her guerrilla style! Dr. Jack, Suzanne, the ladies from Cherry Bomb. Hell, even Giovanna (sp), with her epic belching. So thank you. From everything that we are, everything that we have become, and everything that we hope to be, thank you. You are a beautifully talented pair of ladies that we feel very lucky to have. Sincerely with everything that is holy and gay, Boo and The CDB Crew
