Artist Statement
Puzzle, Pattern, Connection, Assembling Combination, Layering and Composition. Poramit Thantapalit's artwork is created from small parts and uniquely assembled like a puzzle. Each piece can stand alone as an individual object or together to create a larger object. They can be combined in various compositions and layered with other mediums. Poramit currently works on recycled sculpture using household found objects such as plastic bottles, cardboard, papers, wood, rubbers, wires and computer parts. His concept is to create sculpture like three dimensional puzzles. They can be interlocked and connected to form the entire sculpture. They can hang on the wall, be free standing on the table or floor or floating as a kinetic mobile. At the same time, he is also focused on cyanotype photogram. He will create photogram images from his sculpture during the production progress. The cyanotype photogram represents an archive footprint or photocopy of his sculpture. He often combines both mediums into one artwork, but they also can be displayed as an individual artwork. He calls this medium, "Cyanoture". He also combined cyanotype with other mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, collage and encaustic. In additional, he has worked on digital negative for cyanotype. His experience as graphic designer and photographer help him to create an unique cyanotype by using digital composite and photo filters to create his digital negative photography. He combines the old technique with the latest technology to produce his own unique perspective in new media artwork.
