APARTMENT BUILDING (Design Development) 2013 This is a residential building designed for Myarchtects in one of the traditional courtyards in Friedrichshain, Berlin. The project focuses on three main factors. First of all, it tries to use the most buildable area as possible to meet the needs of the investor, use the explotation of natural light as much as possible, and lastly, the planification of the fire exits without interfering with the two previous points. To this end, we propose an extra floor in the basement with a large yard that provides a lot of natural light. On the upper floors large windows are designed in strategical places and a doppel spiral staircase is designed that provides a two-way fire evacuation in the space that a single one would occupy.

2013 ÁTICO-LOFT EN ALICANTE 2012 This is the renovation of an early 20th century attic. The project proposes the blending of the living room and the kitchen, such that the singular bright, open space becomes the focal point of the public part of the house. It also makes use of the existing high ceilings to add a new studio, accessible through a stainless steel staircase. The private area with the bedrooms and the bathroom is on the lower level, and is separated by a small sliding glass door. It creates a unique fusion of modern materials – such as the glass handrail and the stainless steel stairs – ttractively juxtaposed with the original timber beams and wooden floor. The lamp with varying sizes of spheres breaks the formality of the rest of the linear forms and creates an evocative sculpture.

HOTEL EN AGUAMARGA (Proyecto de ejecuci贸n) 2011 This is the entire design for Garrigos Galiano architects (including design development, construction documents and 3D Modeling & Renderings) of a small hotel located by the sea on a mountainside in southern Alicante, Spain. The building makes the most of of the mild climate and proposes a solution between indoor and outdoor spaces: the hotel bedrooms are the only completely enclosed space, and they offer the best views of the sea. The rest of the building blends into the landscape by being partially buried into the mountainside, and makes good use of the native vegetation with their platforms and roof gardens.

“The hangover of the Wall”

2012

The singular essence of the city of Berlin, is justified that by its peculiar history is full of emptyness, residual space and buildings without use. Let’s say that these three entities promote uncertainty, intermediate use and confrontation between classes and are the driving force identity of Berlin. The current development of this city has boosted inharmonious coexistence. It has been based primarily on the filling the vacuum created by the destruction during the war and the subsequent fall of the wall. On the one hand, promoting large urban developments with star architects to attract traditional tourism (as Postdammerplatz) and on the other hand promoting free temporary and innovative use of empty spaces as a way of revitalization. Until now this was positive and around Berlin a great dual-cultural movement was growing up: An alternative and underground one and an institutionalized and politically correct one. But this system has eventually become unsustainable, the spaces are filled and prices rise and become inaccessible, and in a few years the dual identity of the city will begin to get lost. My proposed project is the development of an urban system tthat maintains the level of developmental ambiguity. Thus, we assume that the city will grow; since it is unrealistic to assume that private land in the centre will remain unoccupied much longer, we ensure that the business use of the plots will generate a guarantee of permanent cyclical temporary use. Explaining it in an extremely concise way, this is achieved by a system of small expropriations in return for more architectural suitability and the development therein of a series of devices that allow the use of these ambivalent areas in a much more efficient way. These devices create a network and are a tool that allow for the generation of sporadic new programs around them, though they never generate programs themselves.

5TH HEALTHY HOUSING INT. AWARD (Winner) 2010 Monforte del Cid is a Mediterranean city in the Spanish province of Alicante, the economic basis of the town is mainly focused on the cultivation of grapes of very high quality, but this activity is gradually disappearing by not being very profitable. This project aims to change this trend trough the promotion of rural tourism related to grape production processes as a form of economic recovery in the region.

Agregation System

We propose a cottage located between the vineyards for a farmer family. In the grape harvest seasons we add the tourist home to the main house. We can add all the units we want, using a system of containers. The Containers election allow us to use a prefabricated system to the construction of an aggregation system without producing a great impact in the place of the intervention and reflects a new ecological concept. Also this mobile houses coul be moved to other places when the tourist season finish in Monforte but strat in other places, for example to the ski resorts in the close mountains during the snow season. This results in a cyclical movement thanks to the easily transport of the conteiners which adapts flexibly to the demand and promotes a more efficient and sustainable use of land.

Sustainability Decisions

We have considerated the orientation of different pieces in relation with the sun and wind, to be in the side of the habitability and sustainability. Many devices are designed to achieve an reasonable temperature in the house. Different combinations of windshadow-water evaporation are used for the summer, compost heating and solar pannels are used during the winter.
