PCA’LA AT A GLAHC[ PCA-LA is 350 diverse Porsche owners. We are young and old, novice and expert, slow and fast. PCA-LA is also a "region" of Porsche Club of America, the largest one marque non-factory club in the world. On a national level, PCA publishes an excellent monthly magazine ("Porsche Panorama") and generally provides a forum for learning. But the club part is local. And what PCA-LA offers is an opportunity to share the exhilirating (and sometimes frustrating) experience of understanding, maintaining and driving one of the most unique automobiles of all time. I would personally like to thank those of you that have called to say how super you think the year is going so far. The board has been working very hard since last November planning this year. We are only in the third month and we have already had twelve functions, and we’d like to think that they have all been quality events. As far as the rest of the year goes, if you can find anything that we have left out that you’d like to see us do, please call one of the board members and let us know. Maybe we can work it in. After all, the board’s.main function is to serve you, the members.

~A~ EDITOR’S NOTE: This issue is abbreviated (really!) because I’m starting a new job, moving and getting married (ye gods, there’s no end to insanity once it begins). Anyway, next month we hope to be back big as ever. If not, it won’t be because we didn’t try harder. COVER The beautiful photograph of Vern Covert’s immaculate 904 adorning this month’s cover was snapped by our club photographer, Don Burkhard, at the TRW,~Slalom. ~...~~;~i~:~:~:i:~!~:~:i:!:!:!:~!:~:i:i:~!:~i:~:!:!:i ~!~!~i!~i~i~iii~i~ii~ii~l~i~i~iiii~ ~:~:~:~:~!:i:!:!:~:~:!:!:!:!:~:~:!:~;i:~:~:~:i~:i:~:i~:~:i:i~:i:i: L.x.:~.x.:.:~.:.~>x~.:.: ............... x.x.~x.:.:~:~.:~.:.:.:.:.:.:~

of time will be allowed for practice before the timed runs begin around 2:00 p~m. This will be our first application of the new Zone 8 Competition Rules to a time tria! event. The cost is $15, a mere pittance for the thrills you’ll enjoy during a day at Willow. Many instructors, including Scooter Patrick and John Williamson, will be on hand to show you novices and would-be experts the correct line around the track. Even if you don’t want to run, come on out and spectate for the day. This event is being sponsored by BEVERLY PORSCHE/AUDI, who graciously picked up the expensive tab for the track. A pre-tech will be held at Beverly P/A, 8423 Wilshire Blvd., Beverly Hills (655-5414) on Wednesday, March 13th, from 7:30 to i0:00 p.m. So get your car in tune and your body in gear, and prepare yourself for a great day on the 16th!

HP On January 27th the LA Region held its first speed event of the new year. It was a high speed autocross at TRW in Redondo Beach. John Williamson was the event chairman so all of us expected a quick course, and we got it! The weather on Sunday was beautiful and so was the turnout. We had 76 entrants, including a couple of 911 Carreras, 914-6-GT’s, Vern Covert’s 904, and many prepared 911’s and 914-6’s, as well as the "street" Porsches. The Al!oy (our women’s auxiliary) prepared delicious food for everyone. In fact, the food was so good that all the drivers were a second slower on the course after lunch. Did you ever miss a shift during an autocross because of a belch?! Here’s the final results in each class. "T" indicates a trophy. AS
